How do I stop being toxic?

Shredded Cuban·1/2/2017, 5:00:29 PM·2 votes·1,092 views

I'm not here to lie about what I did. I was banned for 14 days being toxic. I started playing a few years ago and I have been stuck in silver elo. Last season I stopped caring about others and focused on myself, I started climbing rapidly. I got to gold very quickly near the end of the season.

Anyway, I took a break from league and now I'm toxic as f*** again. I need some tips to stop this. I'm arguing in every game and I lose the majority of games now. I somehow take games too seriously (even unranked games I rage). I was banned for 14 days and I do not want a perma, I want to change permanently.

I used to type out the toxic thing I was gonna say, but never hit enter. I would just delete it afterwards. I just figured its not worth it.

Another thing I realized: 90% of the time I don't start the argument but I always respond (which is just as bad). I want to be able to use the chat feature without raging. Please help lol.

boy, the anger stays no matter what you do. simple as that. this game is a combination of adrenaline meets toxic relief. if you're getting your heart pumping, or angry on here, the less brain power is used to think about the real things to be mad about. get it? could always learn kniting, heard there is rarely people salty who knit.

Take a rubber band and put it on your wrist. Every time you're about to go off, snap it. I used to have anger issues, it helped me a lot.

All that negativity isn't constructive at all. It'll actually make you, and those around you, just play worse, which is why you're not getting the results you'd hoped for. It's an awkward spiral at that point, because you'll just end up more frustrated about losing, tilt even harder, and lose more.

You've just got to break that habit. And also realize that after taking time off from the game, you can't expect to pick right back up where you left off. The game will have changed, your skills will be rusty. The MMR you're playing at (where you left off when you last played) is going to be higher than your current skill level. It's going to take some time to get back to where you were. The point here is to make sure you temper your expectations a bit.

With that in mind, you need to focus hard on remaining constructive. Focus on what you can do better in each game, and work on improving that. Don't focus on mistakes your teammates make. The best thing you can do in the immediate time after your 2-week ban is up will be to basically not say anything in chat at all. Over time, you can maybe start to allow yourself to chat, but only use it for strategic input, or occasional positive comments.

yeah i got my first account banned(all champs, most runes, many skins). I'm still a fucker to idiots who pick katarina top and feed 40 kills in 10 minutes. I just wait until after the game to unload on them verbally. I'd say maybe buy a shit ton of skins and really invest into this account so you might think twice about your actions on it.

I know you want to keep the chat, but perhaps just plays some games with /mute all? If you're responding to people more than instigating, as you said, then that should help.

you just have to realise that this is a game, and you don't have to treat it that seriously.

At the end, the rank is good for stroking your ego, but beyond that, it doesn't mean much.

So you take the games too seriously. That means that winning is most likely very important to you. When you rage at your team do you think that makes your team more or less likely to win? When you rage at your team does that make you play better or worse? When you rage at your team does that make your team play better or worse?

The point I'm trying to make is that raging is an EMOTIONAL response that is actually counter productive to your goals (winning the game.) Logically, raging at your team doesn't make any sense. Instead of wasting time typing you could be getting farm, warding, setting up for objectives, etc. You know, things that actually help you win the game.

Do not care was others says. Try to change the way you think. Don't take what others say too serious. They flame you? ignore it They blame you? Yes, maybe you did something wrong, but everyone does mistakes, ignore them. Go into the game with the will to win and care about yourself. It's mainly your stubborn mind that lets you flame back and get into an argument.

Click /mute all, mute pings, and treat ranked as if it was solo player. This is what I did when I was 2 week banned back in season 4 before tribunal went down, it worked but a few years later my hard tilt rage reared its face and I'm 2 week banned again. So soon as I'm off I am just hit that /mute all and only call for drags and baron.

The key here, atleast for me, is to get your teammates to not rage at you, but to rage at other teammates. People will love to find sceapegoats and bait you into raging so they can report you. If you mute them they will realize you are not responding to them and thus think you have them muted, which you do. This will then have them turn on someone else to scapegoat and bait into raging instead, keeping all focus away from you. Not typing will also significantly improve your play and its how I got gold for the first time when I got off my first ban years ago.

This game would be so much better if there was a "disable chat" button like HoTS has.

Seriously tho, the new system is very sensitive to players coming off of 2 bans compared to before. If you say even ONE THING negative you are going to get permed, so muting chat is your only option if you can't control your raging.

if that doesn't work and you just rage for no reason every time someone makes a mistake, then I hate to say it but your account is done. Youre best bet is to make a smurf now and play on that and just not play on your main for like an entire season. You won't be on your main for 1 year, but atleast it won't get permed and will eventually be reset to good standings with the system.
