A Discussion for Penalty System

As most of you may have seen my post and how unforgiven I really am when it comes to toxicity and fully against toxic players continuing to ruin players game. I had some ideas. While I am not one to really want any change to the system because personally, I am content with it. But let's say there is a modification to it. Other than this brilliant idea for the Report Card Idea. What else could we include? To give the players idea and motivation to improve their attitudes.

Our Current Penalty is:

  • 1st Penalty: 10-games Chat Restriction
  • 2nd Penalty: 25-games Chat Restriction
  • 3rd: Penalty: 14 - Day Ban
  • 4th Penalty: Permanent Ban

This here is an idea I thought of. In some way harsher but slightly forgiving is the idea I was going for. Also, of course, Honor is stripped.

  • 1st Penalty: 10-games Chat Restrictions demoted to Honor 1
  • New 2nd Penalty: 1 Week Chat Restriction with Unhonorable.
  • New 3rd Penalty: 2 weeks Chat Restriction, Skins locked and Ranked Locked
  • New 4th Penalty: Lock All Skins and Limited to 3 week to AI games with Chat Restrictions
  • 5th Penalty: 14-Day Ban
  • 6th Permaban

Remind you, this is just an idea and rather a discussion. I want to also hear your thoughts and your ideas. What would you change? What would be your ideal penalties?

But this is also a friendly reminder that we want a Report Card Idea implemented.

Will be editing due to ideas and suggestions.

Riot has experimented with additional punishment tiers in the past, and discovered that adding more levels before the permanent ban does not result in a significant decrease in players who end up permanently banned. As a result, the current system is designed to identify players who are not willing to reform and remove them from the game as quickly as possible. Adding more steps keeps those players around longer and, according to the data that Riot has gathered, doesn't lead to a significant increase an improvement for those players. As a result, there's really no net benefit to increasing the number of penalties.

Time-based chat restrictions are...iffy. The point of it being game-based is to force them to play games without being toxic.

Also I don't like that the 4th penalty is less severe than the 3rd one. Locking chat, ranked, and skins for 2 weeks is more severe than locking skins and limiting them to AI for a single week.

I disagree with having chat restrictions be time based rather than game based, as it'd be very easy to just avoid playing for that time and then just come back and act like nothings wrong or ever happened. Also, I very much disagree with limiting them to Co-op Vs. AI or Normal games. As a player who plays primarily vs. AI and who is not a fan of people wanting to end them fast all this would do is push them to another queue to be toxic in, which is not fair to the players of those queues.

I'm going to disagree here just because we already operate on a four strikes system (i.e. more than enough notice and chances given), and there is no data to suggest that adding further tiers will decrease toxicity further.

The only leniency I would possibly be okay with is not locking honor and stripping ranked rewards for a 10 game CR, since there's not so much as a tap on the shoulder before the hammer comes out.

I have two permabanned accounts for being toxic. So my opinion is probably biased but I believe that your idea is pretty good, although take out perma bans in general. Take everything away from the toxic players until they decide not to play anymore, don't just ban them, they don't learn, I sure haven't. It's easy to make a new account, and easy to continue toxic behavior, however unless you use hate speech or cheat, perma bans should be taken out of the penalty system. TBH, I honestly think the only reason perma bans exist is so Riot can make money off of players starting up new accounts and spending money on them to regain some of the stuff they previously had, but that's just me
