League of Legends: Is it doing everything right?

NA Toxic Korean·8/11/2016, 10:17:54 PM·2 votes·692 views

As a league of legends player for over 2 years, I have got to say the game itself is really fun. The diversity of champions and abilities as well as mechanics and strategies you have to learn made the game really entertaining yet requiring a high skill cap. But despite my enjoyment, I am a toxic player. I've had 5 accounts permanently banned for toxicity and I'm not going to deny it, I do flame my teammates and rage. For ex:

NA Toxic Korean: UR SO BOOSTED NA Toxic Korean: VAYNE NA Toxic Korean: U LEGIT NA Toxic Korean: FARMED NA Toxic Korean: WHILE I 2 vs 1d NA Toxic Korean: and HE HAD NA Toxic Korean: 1 FCKi g HEALTH

Now that you've seen the fact that I'm toxic, now I'd like to ask. What caused such abusive actions? What made this player so angry and upset? Now as a player who's tried to climb to a high elo for a very long time, any players who are bad or unskilled come out as extremely annoying or unintelligent to myself and I think I have the right to speak my mind about such things. Also, if a player is trolling, I do not think raging at him and getting banned for that is focusing on the right person. I do not understand how the scapegoat of the situation (toxic player) is heavily punished and the free internet troll may frolic along with his/her day remaining unscathed.

I personally think the way players are punished in League of Legends is terrible. To punish players for negatively REACTING to the obviously negative actions of others is certainly questionable and unreasonable. Do you think that banning the players who pinpoint the actual problems of the league community like trolls deserve to be punished for simply expressing a human emotion of anger? Should it not be the trolls themselves that are punished so that the "toxic" players do not have to use such foul language upon anyone? Or maybe even create a chat on/off option so that people who know they cannot handle their rage may choose to remove that capability. Riot Games just really focuses on the wrong aspects of the game which makes me really disappointed and upset. So like many other prominent League players, I am heading off. While I may not be an extremely high tier player, you can think of me as the common people, people who are frustrated about this corrupted and unethical game.

No one "have to" be toxic. And I agree that some people are doing dumb plays and it may trigger you but you still shouldn't be toxic to them. They're trying just like you. And I've witnessed alot of toxicity and trolling in this game (kinda hard not to) but what happens most often is that someone makes a mistakes but doesn't want to take the blame, flame another player, becomes toxic and thinks the other guys are trolling even though they're not. There is still alot of real troll but it's part of the game. It's part of almost every game. And while it's true that toxic players are often just reacting to trolls but it's also more often the opposite. People don't tend to troll for no reason. It's often when other players become toxic to them that they end up trolling.

I do think toxic people deserves to be punished. They're ruining the fun for the others. You don't want a guy following you on the streets continually saying that you sucks, you're stupid and you should kill yourself. It's the same in the game. And the chat on/off option is there, it's called mute.

The punishment system isn't "I did this because he did something else, I shouldn't be punished because he did something worse so I should get a free pass for flaming him and breaking all the normal rules!" If everyone did what you did, there would be many wars tbh.

You left no middle ground, I'm kind of in between

If you want my honest opinion, you sound like a jerk. Always blaming others, always looking to find a scapegoat to rage on. And you feel entitled to be mean to people if, for example, they have a bad game. I'm sure you have never had a bad game, of course. That's why you are even much better than every world famous professional player, right? (because even they have bad games sometimes)

BUT IF YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT WHY THIS GAME IS TOXIC....

I posted this in another thread, and I will post it again here:

People always talk about the "community" being toxic, but am I the only one who think it is the mechanics of this game that kindle toxic behavior? Snowballing for example, or the fact that last hitting monsters and champions gives you a big extra bonus (a feature traditionally abused by griefers in MMOs and hence uncommon in MMOs today), also the concept of 'meta' and its encouragement or enforcement by the developer which leads to people feeling justified to attack others for not playing the game "right" (because there is perceived to be a "right" way that people are supposed to play, even if every individual has a different idea about what exactly that is). This game is filled with mechanics that may as well have been designed to frustrate people and make them rage.

Obviously the game is also a lot of fun in various ways, otherwise people wouldn't play it. But those dynamics (frustrating + genuinely fun) are a toxic combo in themselves, because people get doubly raged when they are trying to have fun and expecting fun and then find their quest for fun frustrated and unsuccessful.

I just don't buy that somehow this game is a magnet for bad apples. Mechanics within the game itself are what drives the pervasive toxicity.

Imagine if champions and teams didn't snowball hard, for example. Would that make pro matches more or less interesting? I'm pretty sure it would make them more interesting, because there would be a lot more opportunities for players to outplay each other and show what they are really capable of, rather than who can get ahead first and then they have a huge advantage with every exchange being unequal and requiring a big mistake for someone to lose once they are ahead. Because of the snowball factor, mistakes in LoL have a huge consequence, which creates an uptight, passive-aggressive style of play and basically encourages negative emotions all around.

I appreciate all of your comments and have clearly decided I am the type of player unwanted by riot and the community. Thank you for having me.

You have the right to say what you want, but that also means that you have to deal with the co sequences of what you say. You don't HAVE to be toxic, or react to others. You could be mature and just handle the situation calmly and just try to stay positive. Yes, it may be aggravating, but it's just something you need to learn to deal with.

Secondarily, if you've had this many accounts banned, it may be time to think about changing your behavior seeing as how that's what's gotten you banned in the first place.

the "common people" aren't toxic.

No matter how much the "other people" may or may not need a smack on the back of the head, your behavior is unacceptable. You are not the League of Legends Behavior and Appropriate Gameplay Overlord. Should trolls be reported? Yes. Does trolling give you the right to be a jerk? No. Your flaming does nothing to rectify their behavior or make the game better in any way. In fact it makes the game worse for all the other players who have to put up with it for 42 minutes before being able to report you, and probably the other troll too.

Something to keep in mind: in a game where 1 player is playing badly, even with a troll pick, and another player who is being a complete donkey's back end, I'm much more likely to report the donkey, since he is doing more to ruin my LoL experience. A better way to get the trolls reported is to make sure that the other players in the game don't have anyone else they hate more to distract them in the post game lobby when they are itching to report people.

Another side note: playing bad and being unskilled are not reportable or flamable criteria. Someone isn't as good as you are at this game, and you think that is a valid reason to attack them? I'm so sorry that I don't live up to your standards of gameplay, but you need to get over yourself. Deliberately ruining the game for other people is a problem. My lack of elite level skill does not give you the right to engage in loudmouthed jerkery. Grow up.
