How it (14 day suspension) helped me

Chompgar··13 votes·896 views

First off I'm here to apologize for what I did. Now, secondly, I'd like to say that my punishment was helpful. It gave me time to cool off and think about how I can be more supportive and friendly rather than detrimental and toxic. My first game back I was met with someone flaming me, and normally I would flame back, but this time I ignored them, which is a big step for me, I personally hate muting/ignoring people, but I did it. That's all I wanted to say, and also, thank you, Riot for giving me a much needed break.

It's a lot more helpful than people think to step back and do something else for a bit. League is mentally draining at times. I'm glad you're feeling better and welcome back to the rift! Keep it up.

Apologize to who?

Chompgar4 votes

More or less myself and anyone whom I offended

Good for you! Hope you continue down (up?) this path and continue to enjoy league as well.

Any tips on trying to not be salty to teammates who are harassing you or opponents who are harassing you?

Ignore them. Seriously. Mute them. Especially the other team. There is no reason to talk to the other team if they are being negative. Nothing good comes of it. Mute them and try to win the game.

That's awesome you were able to reflect and acknowledge your mistakes! I'm happy for you :)

Do you think you would have had the same out come if you received a 7 day or 10 day suspension?

Chompgar1 votes

Probably not, the 14 days gave me time to realize just how bad I was. I realized at around 12 days and sought to change at the same moment.

You're not the problem. Riot is. They refuse to moderate gameplay, frustration is a natural reaction. Of course, I realize you're a plant, but still worth posting this in case you're a real person who has actually been bullied into accepting guilt for Riot's awful system.

Very well said. Moderation or at least a more reasonable punishment system would be better. I posted a thread about suggesting a warning system or something that gives players a second chance to reevaluate their behavior before outright banning/suspending them.

Personally, I don't think a full 14 days is necessary for someone to understand their behavior is unacceptable. A 2 to 10 day suspension, determined by severity, is much more reasonable in my opinion.

I would know because my friend was recently suspended for 14 days for a single use of "kay-why-ess" as a joke to one of his friends while in game. All Riot had to do was give an automated message saying, "Hey don't use words like that. Those are socially unacceptable and are offensive to those around you." This alone would have changed how he spoke while in game, and even if there had to be a penalty (which is understandable), 2-7 days is much more reasonable because he understood his lesson and what he did wrong by the first day. Just a bit excessive to suspend for 2 weeks, disable honor, take away end of season rewards and future free rewards.

Of course, there are those who deserve a a 2-week suspension because they are actually trying to be offensive, but Riot needs to pay attention to context and be a bit forgiving than a tyrant. We all make mistakes!

Sorry for the rant, but this topic bugs me since it's affected one of my good friends.

Hey man, I noticed that my 14 day ban helped me too! I wish you and me the best of luck getting out of Honor 0 because from my point of view, it's almost impossible. (I've had 100+ honors since my ban and my honor has gone nowhere.) Glad the ban helped you too!

it is a game, if talking smack in an online video game gets u banned, these motherfuckers are soft

I understand your point and for the most part agree, but some language shouldn't be used. If anything, the punishment system should be a little more lenient for first time offenders.

There's a difference between "talking smack" and being offensive, though. Sarcasm is a good example of talking smack, but name calling or socially-offensive words shouldn't be used or done. Which is where opinion and simply not knowing better comes into play, and why I advocate for a more forgiving punishment system and an explicit warning system.

Does that mean you lose next season rewards?

I agree that the bans help you reflect on your misdoings and such, but i feel like 2 whole weeks is a little harsh for only the third tier of punishment.
