So my friend got a 2-week ban for one game where she was just joking around with our mutual friend in chat. It seems confusing to me that someone would get banned for one game where nobody reported her, and she got no previous warnings about her behavior at all, as well as being honored by everyone including the random player in the team (this was a 3v3 twisted treeline ranked game). There was no warning given, and only game taken into account, and the chat log can show that the whole conversation was in game banter, friends joking around nothing more. What is even more unbelievable is that the random added them as a friend, which technically speaking every player in her team hasn't gotten affected by anything in a negative way. I might have missed some details or written this a bit to hastily because this just recently happened and I am still shook up by it because it literally happened 10 hours before the end of the season and she lost over 500 games worth of ranked and got master on both flex and solo queue and lost all of that hard work for something totally not deserved. If a rioter does read this please help, because this is just so totally unbelievable.

She has only the chat logs of the words that she got reported for, but they said that if they can get hold of the whole chat logs we can prove it was in-game banter

Some things, such as hate speech, are not acceptable even as banter. Unless all four of the other players on her team were in a premade group with her, there's no justification for not being on good behavior.

Edit, I notice you mention that there was one random on the team. Once there was a random, it no longer was banter but subjecting someone to negative speech who she didn't know.

what if the random player clearly said after the game that he didnt mind the banter and didnt even report her

Someone had to report her.

Regardless, the issue is this: post-game confirmation does not justify the behavior - unless she had a way of knowing going into the game that the random would be 100% okay with the things she was saying, she should not have said them. Sure, this time, the random may have been okay with it. However, next time/other times, the random may not be okay with it - and she has no way of knowing that.

Right now her best bet is to explain the situation in a support ticket, and if she can get her premades and the random to submit tickets saying they were okay with the behavior, they may be willing to reduce/rescind the ban as a gesture of goodwill. Do not count on it, however, as it's still not acceptable behavior in game and they don't want to encourage this type of "well if everyone's okay with it" because that leads to people doing things when not everyone's okay with it.

Someone definently reported her. The system only ever kicks in after a report has been sent.

Have her contact support. There is only a very small chance any Rioter reading this will be able to help.

well, how can someone report her when they honored and also added her as a friend straight up after the game. It wasn't even directed at him the jokes i mean, they won the ranked game, and both the random and my friend were super fed. I'm just asking you to think of it logically. No warnings, technically speaking no reports (cause why would I honor, add as friend, and report the same person all at the same time) get banned for one game and one game alone. If you read the whole chat you can clearly see its just 2 people joking around with each other in the chat, the random wasn't even talking the whole game!

They can still report her. Adding as a friend doesn't stop you from reporting people.

And I am. What you're doing is assuming some wierd bug happened that got the system triggered even though she wasn't reported. This would be the first time this has ever happened though, and goes against a really simple part of the code.

So I ask you, what is more logical:

  • This wierd bug happened

  • Someone jokingly reported her, and now won't fess up because she got punished. Or perhaps it was even the random that reported her.

Technically speaking there was reports.

That's what a 0 tolerance policy is.

If you read the whole chat you can clearly see its just 2 people joking around with each other in the chat, the random wasn't even talking the whole game!

And perhaps those 2 people shouldn't have offensively joked while in prescence of someone they don't know.

Here is how I think it went down:

Riot has a 0 tolerance policy on certain things. Your friend said something higly offensive and the random reported her. The system reviewed the game and found that your friend was highly offensive and punished her according to their policy.

Riot doesn't revoke punishments, even if the offence was just meant jokingly :/

well we just spoke to the random player, our mutual friend just told us that he and the random became friends right after the game. that random player said he didnt take it offensively and also didnt report her. soooooo, please explain :)

Someone is lying. That's the explanation. Or maybe someone from the enemy team reported her.

The system NEEDS a report to kick in.

nope, they got more evidence, and also another one of them is a premade game but this time its a normal game with a premade 5 of friends all of us joking around with each other, no reports

I don't know what you're trying to get out from me. You assume that I have some motive to keep a secret about the system.

Thruth is: The system NEVER operates without a report. That's it. There is nothing more to it. She was reported, and that's life. Even if you asked ALL the players from that game, and all of them said they didn't report her, someone would be lying.

I see no interest in continuing this. Fact is, she was reported and punished for her actions. Whether that punishment was deserved or not is a different discussion.

we just found out from the random player, because he was added as a friend right after the game yesterday, that he didnt report and also didnt even take the banter negatively at all. so why the ban?? for no reports at all

I know that, but why would they report someone whom they didnt even talk to for the whole game? there was no communication between both teams

It's called salt report. Maybe she flashed one too many emotes at the enemy or dance on their dead body...

Either someone did report and is lying, or it is possible they received the wrong logs. They should fill a support ticket.

Now here's an update, they replied to her with more evidence of old previous games, 3 ranked games which none of them has the word "kys" in it, and 2 of them had pure proper explanations in them and not even the extreme of flames, just her saying in all chat report this player for inting cause she was inting, and another one only showing her typing in caps to the jungler but they don't show any of the positiving and motivation shes giving to the jungler earlier in the game and the jungler flamed everyone else in that game cause he was autofilled, they only focused on her typing in caps telling him to sit on bot. The last game they used as evidence was ANOTHER premade 5 with friends and i was one of them

We all joked around with each other, and this is the only other game she said "kys" and that was in no way an offense of negative message towards us, we were just teasing each other, spamming pings on each other, the usual friends behavior that I bet everyone else does with their friends. If riot is using 2 games with premades of friends as evidence where there was NO WAY someone reported another person, then that just means that word is a trigger and it requires no report, and also I have to add that they gave NO WARNING whatsoever that if she said "kys" again she will get banned. I promise you if anyone of us ever KNEW about this we all would stop saying that. Make a page about it on your website, a youtube video, ANYTHING, warning us about this behavior, because in the KB Article, it only says "for extreme negative behavior as well as extremely offensive language and remarks made in game towards other players", it said nothing about we can't joke around with our friends, again I repeat PREMADE 5!!!!! Ok the word might work if there was a random, but seriously there HAS TO BE A REPORT for the ban or any sort of punishment to actually happen!

It pains me that this sort of punishment is occurring when I saw in a lot of boards that people got banned for joking around with their friends, not with randoms, with their friends when they didn't even report each other. Why is Riot banning people when they didn't get reported and for them to be joking around with their friends.
