I've been playing this game for a few years now and have come to realize there is really no use for the text chat box (IN GAME). I am yet to see useful information displayed in that box. It's almost always taunting, flaming, or complaining. Any intent can be relayed quickly with the ping system. Thoughts?
Every time I see this topic brought up, I can't help but think of someone who only sees people hit their thumb while trying to use a hammer and wanting hammers to be banned because they only hurt people...
Chat is a tool, much like a hammer. Yes, it can be used poorly (and there are punishments for those who do) but it can also be used to raise team moral, instruct players on game information they didn't know, help players not feel so bad as they're being crushed, etc. Correctly used, the in game chat is one of the best things in the game.
Maybe for lower elos. Up in the higher elos there is almost no flaming and the text chat is used only for tactics if at all.
I use it to communicate with my team and help other players who are having issues with their builds or just their champ. Chat is very useful, if you don't have a use for it just don't use it outside of pings but it's still very widely used.
Well I mean they didn't just add a mute feature for looks did they? If you see flaming or taunting then mute them and you can report them if it got that bad (pre-mute), it's what I do unless I've been on a losing streak, then I can't really help, but join in tbh.
I dont use it for useful information. I use it cause I like joking around with my teammates or talking to the other team. If they are being salty I just mute and/or ignore them.
You can remove chat for yourself anytime you want by muting all and abstaining. No reason to throw the baby out with the bathwater because some people can't handle using chat.
