Speaking with decency is very important. Swearing doesn't have anything to do with that. I can be decent while swearing, I can be indecent without swearing.
Swearing, on its own is not an issue. Swearing at people is. This like "shit I messed up" are fine. "you are shit" not fine.

SmokedAlmonds2 votesSwearing just enhances statements, so yes it can escalate things. but even in that case, it isn't that you are swearing that is the issue, it is that you are swearing at someone.
I could say "you are bad", "you are terrible", "you are shit", "you are fucking garbage". All have the same general base meaning, they do not each carry the same weight.
It is how the words are used, not that you used them.

If someone slapping and punching are both hitting, but someone slapping you is not the same as someone throwing a knockout punch.
You could argue that how they weight them is wrong(well really you couldn't because we have can only guess at how each is actually weighted). So no, I don't think it is going overboard to differentiate. If anything I would consider it a gaping whole in the system if they weren't.
