After a month of playing (166+ games) with no warnings, instant permanent ban (no racism either)

I'd like everyone to really try to think of this from my perspective, don't just answer "you flamed, you're banned".

Some background first; I used to be a very toxic player. There's no denying that, I was awful. It even got to the point where I got a 14 day ban. But I changed, I really changed, IRL too. I got more friends and was brighter in general. Now two days ago I had some real issues in my life. It's irrelevant what happened, since you can never know what the others have gone through. That slow driver you were honking at might've been crying after losing his son. So anyways, I spent the last two days playing CS:GO and LoL, and drinking. Being drunk and having a bad time, I ended up in a few games where my team started flaming me, or maybe they just intentionally let me die or something. Normally I would've just ignored them, but I didn't think rationally, and instead started raging at them. Now I'm facing a permanent ban message, saying I can never play this game again.

First things first; I take full responsibility for this, I know that having a bad day doesn't justify being toxic to others. I do deserve to be punished, there's no arguing here. The thing I want to discuss about is the severity of my ban. According to my op.gg page, I've played at least 166 games during the last month (yes, I counted them), during which I haven't gotten any punishments, not even chat restriction. So I must be at least a decent guy normally, I've even gotten some honors from my team! Now I have two bad days, and based on three bad games I get permanently removed from the game. The chatlog is available here if anyone cares. Few points I'd like to make:

  1. I did call someone braindead. That was a response to them flaming me. I did wrong, I would take this back if I could.
  2. I did call someone braindead retard. That was shaco. The champion. "shaco is fucking braindead retard champ"
  3. I never insulted anyone personally, never called anyone by racial slurs, no homophobic stuff, no "cancer to your mom", no "kys".
  4. I only called people idiots based on the plays they made, or the messages they flamed me with.

So not having any warning in over a month and 160+ games, being at least a decent guy for all this time, really enjoying the game and even helping teammates, then have a few bad days where I flame people based on the game itself, no stupid racial slurs, and I get permanently banned.

I think this ban was too harsh. I think a 14 day ban would be more than enough to remind me and calm me down. I'd understand if I were spreading around "kys" and "cancer to your mother", but it was nothing like that, I just got mad over the game after having a bad day in general. I'm not saying what I did was justified, I don't think flaming is ever justified. But neither is shoplifting, yet you don't get a lifesentence for it. I just think the system is too harsh as is. Is there any way to contact Riot (other than this and support ticket) and actually discuss of this matter? I know I did wrong and am willing to change, and I don't think permanent punishment is justified here.

Or maybe I'm just blind to my own mistakes, which is why I'd like to hear a second opinion from you guys...

Edit: I just checked my old emails, it was december 26th that I got my 14 day ban. So two months since my last ban, op.gg only shows a month back.

You were pretty toxic, yea, you constantly insult people on their plays or over people around. And you always get the next punishment for anything worthy. In this case, a permaban.

The time to reduce a punishment is three months of positive play.

You can send a ticket to support and ask them to review your case, and if you have actually made strides to improve yourself over that month they MIGHT let you off on a 14 day.

Maybe. Probably not. But it is worth a try.

Yeah I've had some anger issues before, but this was just a few games during the whole month, and no "cancer to your family" messages or anything like that :/ I'm fully with riot that it's punishable, I just don't think permanent is the right choice here since I'm usually doing good. I think the system in general should be adjusted just a little, I think bans should be handed out more easily, but they shouldn't be so harsh. For me personally, if I got a 5 day ban after the Game #1 in the chatlogs, I don't think games #2 and #3 would've ever happened.

But you already had a 14 day ban. They told you that the next punishment is a permanent ban in the email. That was your warning.

I just checked my email, it was two months ago that I got the 14 day ban... I play well for two months and now I am toxic for three games due to personal issues and I am never allowed to play again.

I know there was a warning, but that doesn't mean it's not too harsh of a ban :/

The intent is for people to start trying to change after the first chat restriction. You can probably imagine how different things would be now if you'd made the changes you recently made back when that first happened. You'd be at a 25 game chat restriction now instead of permabanned, and by the sounds of things you'd probably never hit the 2 week ban.

Personally, I think that the 2-week ban is the wake up call for a lot of players, but by that point they've run out of wiggle room. Even if they make an honest to goodness best effort to be upstanding members of the community, expecting them to nail it perfectly is a bit much. This isn't the first time I've seen someone come to this board after having maintained a clean record for 2 months only to have a bad day/week and slip back into old habits.

I think that there needs to be a punishment in between 2-week ban and permaban for those players that are honestly trying to change their ways.

The problem is that humans often tend to leave things to the last moment. That last step before the permanent is the wake-up call. Inserting another step just means that moment of 'Oh crap, I'd better change' will happen at that step instead of at the 14-day ban.

Some will surely put it off, but others will see the first serious punishment as the wake up call. Chat Restrictions are viewed as trivial punishments by those who don't know the 4-strike system, the 2 week ban being the first serious punishment.

Sure lets change the punishment system lets begin with 14 day ban for every real offence now and go straight to perma ban there now everyone will see the 1st punishment as real and won't be confused as to them needing to reform quickly now solved

Okay let me be clear my suggestion was a joke The punishment system works extremely well if a user chooses to not reform they are weeded out quickly with the current system

That still doesn't add a buffer between the first serious punishment punishment and permaban.

Riot's also mentioned that they want the chat restrictions to be part of the system so that players with problems get use to not typing so much extra crap (that usually causes them trouble).

With all of that in mind, this would be what I'd consider:

  • 10 game chat restriction
  • 25 game chat restriction
  • 14 day ban
  • 30 day ban
  • Permaban

It isn't strictly 3 months, that is just an average. Games played is what matters. It has been only a month since I got unbanned from my 14 day suspension, yet because I have played a lot of games (probably over 300) I have probably dropped a punishment tier (I won't try my luck though)

There's possible a chance to hit up a rioter on twitter/ risk your chances on reddit.

I'm not 100% on this but i THINK that when it comes to trial period after a 14 day ban it goes by a time period, not games played period, which would insight why you got perma-banned without warning. How long that trial period is... idk.

I only believe it's a trial period because my friend went through that with his acc. Although he didn't last the full month either so that's why i assume it's time based not game based.

It's a bit silly if it's time period, someone who's always toxic but plays one game a month would then get away but someone who's toxic every 100th game but plays 500 games a month ends up with permanent bans

It may seem silly but think of it like this, someone can play alot of games. Even if all of yours are normals or so.

People can just run 10-15 minutes arams/ co-op bots/ rotating game mode with 10-15 minute matches, which in a type a way since regular summoner rift games average around 30-45minutes can be, in a weird sort of way, abusable.

Yeah but shouldn't it be like how long you've play since the ban, not how long ago you played since the ban? :/ I checked my emails and my last ban was two months ago

Its not a time period per say Its a reform period The goal is get the user to reform to being a positive player regardless of the number of games without showing improvement you don't move off the punishment line so you basically were punished for not changing your behavior

Maybe you were getting better... but then you started drinking. Take this as a life lesson that maybe you shouldn't drink. Drinking ruins marriages, relationships, families, jobs... it can ruin people's lives. Fortunately, you lost something that means a lot to you, but in the long run is a very minor thing. It's good actually. This is your wake up call. It's serious enough for you to care, but not serious enough to ruin your life. Lay off the booze.

I make it a point not to be toxic in games, because I might end up with a couple of bad days myself. Binge drinking and playing lol. If I flame people then, I don't want to already have used a 14 day ban....
