Why I was banned

Can anyone tell me why, as a jungler, I can be flamed, raged at, and blamed for everything possibly going wrong in the game, and then get banned for it when my chat log looks like this?

As someone who mained jungle for quite awhile, I know your feel. People are simply ridiculous sometimes. However, every player is judged purely as an individual. Meaning nothing they said to you effects if you get punished, and nothing you said to them effects if they get punished. On several occasional you made remarks putting your teammates down. Such as:

This is definitely negative behavior. This individual game alone would probably not result in a punishment, but it is likely just the game that was the final straw triggering it, as I assume you talk like this in game often. Bans do not only happen due to a single terrible moment, but can also happen due to consistent negativity. Putting others down like this doesn't serve any purpose (as nobody plays better when being insulted so you are less likely to win, nobody calms down when being insulted so you are more likely to be flamed yourself, etc.), and makes the game significantly less enjoyable.

Remember, you can always mute people and report if they flame you first. Talking back and getting vengeance feels good in the moment, but the victory of walking away unscathed while they get banned is far sweeter.

This is the only part of your entire chat that useful. The rest is at best unnecessary, and mostly negative, flaming or harassment. Most likely this game was enough to tip your account over the line for punishment.

If you're gonna jungle you need to either be thick-skinned or mute people as soon as they show signs of toxity.

Mute is a wonderful thing. I often preemptively mute when playing jungle for this reason.

Yup. When losing people generally look for someone to blame, and jungle is the easiest target (followed by support lol). If you don't like using the mute button then jungle isn't for you.

Indeed. Though honestly, I don't see support blaming that much anymore. In fact, I would say ADCs get flamed more often then support do now, as so many have accepted a blanket "ADCs are the bad guy, Supports the good guy" mentality, so if the support flames the ADC everyone just agrees.

Yeah I only adc if I'm duo with someone - it's not my best role and if you have a support that doesn't play the same way it's just awkward and then you get flamed. As support it's easier to work around different adcs imo.

I used to ADC a lot, but haven't really been able to get into it for a season or so. I still do ADC in groups sometimes yeah, as it is FAR more enjoyable when you know the support

I know this may sound stupid, but can you clarify which specific punishment you got? Many times, people say "banned" when they get a chat restriction because they associate it with "chat ban" which isn't a thing. Some people also get 14 day temp bans and just say banned while there is a permanent ban as well.

It was a permanent ban. I've been banned in the past as well.

While I understand I was being toxic, and yes I have been toxic in the past before, but this is literally the extent of which I am toxic. I just would like to argue that Riot's banning system is way too harsh. Maybe implement a permanent chat restriction? Idk, I don't understand how they can't expect people to get frustrated when bullied in game. I have NEVER attacked anyone personally. AT WORST I've said they're f_ing idiots for doing something stupid in game, but this is a competitive eSport. People are going to argue. People are going to flame. Permanently banning a human being for getting upset because they're being attacked for everything (the leblanc was a HUGE asshole. Was telling me to kill myself and talking about my parents and shit, the usual), not to mention maybe I went through some personal s*** and I didn't want to hear it... I don't see how they can justify it.

But whatever. It's their game. they own it, and its a privilege that we get to play it. Their game, their rules I guess, but this s*** doesn't make me want to support their game anymore or their company/future releases if they ever make another game.

And therein is the rub. You've been punished 3 times and been told to change your behavior each time, and you chose not to.

Permanently banning a human being for getting upset because they're being attacked for everything (the leblanc was a HUGE asshole. Was telling me to kill myself and talking about my parents and shit, the usual), not to mention maybe I went through some personal s* and I didn't want to hear it... I don't see how they can justify it.

Because one person being a troll does not give you license to be a troll - you're just serving as a distraction for the other three people on your team who now have to mute your counter-flaming ass.

Yeah. And I've learned that now. Muting is huge, plus a fun thing to do now when people do stupid s* and blame me I just say "LOL" and move on. I still don't agree with a permanent ban being the right action to take for my actions though. Permanent bans should be left for those who are attacking others, but being the one on the receiving end of the toxicity? I don't really understand it. But of course, like I said, I don't make the rules...

Let me leave you with an analogy to explain my point.

Someone kills one of my family members, and I know their location. Instead of immediately calling the police, I go to them and beat them up and then call for an arrest. Are my actions justified? Absolutely not, and I should be punished for assault. However, it's understood by the jury and the judge that this was a vent of frustration in a very emotional state, and it can be argued that I wouldn't be punished as heavily as the murderer would be. They are not equal crimes, therefore would not be weighed the same.

This is true for my behavior in response to someone completely ruining 4 other peoples' game and wasting 20+ minutes of our time. If one of us decides to respond negatively by typing something as basic as "f* you," why are both violations being weighed equally? Just because I respond and become a "criminal" does not mean I am equally running it down mid and raging at all my teammates about how "autistic" they are.

If you've had 14 day temp bans in the past or other accounts permanently banned as well, you should take the warnings seriously. When you got those previous punishments, they gave you examples of it and if you didn't understand them before, you could have opened a support ticket or brought this to the boards earlier. It appears as though you did both for your a 14 day ban you had 3 years ago, and it appears that the nature of that punishment was due to you retaliating against the person harassing you.

The advice that you would have gotten then was mute them and report them. That still applies today. You should have muted the teammates who were harassing you and played the game and then reported them at the end of the game.

You clogged the chat with arguments back and forth and the primary purpose of the chat isn't to argue, but it's to create a cooperative environment and foster teamwork.

If you reported them, they will get punished for their actions. However, clearly they reported you and you were punished for your actions. There are better ways to handle the situation and it has gotten to the point where you just don't want to take the appropriate measures Riot tells you to.

This is a completely fair statement. You don't have to support a company that has policies that disagree with your personal beliefs.

Yeah, I should have learned from those temp bans, but I was stubborn unfortunately. I felt I wasn't getting due justice to those who hurt me and ruined my games. I was pretty immature about it, but I understand that now.

Correct. I didn't believe their solution was the morally correct one. I feel as if it was naive of me to think that way though, because its impossible to fix people with my words, especially those who see no wrong in their actions. I'm also really good at repeating past mistakes. Learning from a mistake I make is actually a weakness of mine... maybe its pride getting in the way, idk. It's something I'm working on.

I'm being punished as if I was the one inting mid or just sitting in fountain flaming my team until the game was over. I reacted as a human being to poison that is the league community. And for some reason I was weighed as a grade A felon. I don't think I will ever agree with the permanent ban, but I can at least agree now that yes, my actions were not justified and I did deserve punishment. Unfortunately I learned that too late, that my temp 3-day and 14-day bans were justified. So I guess it's goodbye, Riot.

You don't always know if others get punished. You can look at their match history and guess if they have been punished but Riot won't tell you the punishments a player has gotten.

You were just graded as a recidivist. It's like getting detention in school. If you keep doing the same thing, they're going to make your punishments worse and worse until you learn to stop doing that bad behavior, but if you don't learn, they'll expel you from school as a last resort.
