Where to report depressed and/or suicidal speech in league?

Xin was running it down but that's not what I'm focusing on. It's like he was using the game to vent to 9 strangers about how depressed he is.

"I just don't have fun doing much of anything anymore."

"I've been seeing counselors but it's not helping."

"The meds haven't worked in months."

That sort of thing was being typed all game.

Please submit a support ticket with this info. I would also tweet your ticket number at them (@RiotSupport on twitter) as they may have people on there as well.

Whats the point? Riot can do nothing about it. They cannot contact the authorities and provide his information because they have a privacy policy.

If Riot is anything like other major companies, they likely have a procedure for handling this which may include anything from reaching out to the player/local authorities to arranging for a wellness check by some organization on the player. In fact, their privacy policy would explicitly allow for this:

We may also use, disclose, and preserve info to:

Comply with applicable law or respond to legal process (like requests from law enforcement or other public or government authorities); Securely operate the Riot services (like stopping attacks on our systems); Protect players and third parties (such as to help prevent serious injury or crime); and Protect our own rights, property, and operations (like enforcing our contracts and terms -- including the Terms of Use -- and pursuing available remedies or limiting the damages we may sustain).

Bolded part applies - section 3 of the Privacy Policy.

Unless the person specifically said they were going to commit suicide. Riot can't do anything just because someone is depressed.

Based on what the OP showed it seemed to be a troll running it down mid more than anything.

If someone appears they may be at risk for committing harm to themselves or others, Riot's privacy policy would permit them to share that data with law enforcement, a suicide hotline, the individual's family/next of kin (if they can be identified: ex in europe because of GDPR), etc.

B. Sharing Info Summary: We don’t share info that directly identifies you (such as your email or home address) with independent third parties without your knowledge except as described in this policy (like to enforce the Terms of Use, secure the Riot services, or if we’re required to do so by law). We do share info that doesn’t directly identify you (like your Summoner Name, match history, game stats, and other aggregate or anonymous info), including publicly via the Riot Games API.

If we ever stop providing Riot services (like if we’re bought out or invaded by Yordles), we may share your info with the buyer. Lastly, remember the stuff you share in social features (like chat and forums) is public -- please be careful about how you use them!

Except as described in this policy.

They later describe that they will share it to prevent serious injury. That would, obviously, cover serious threats of harm/depression that may indicate suicidal ideation.

can you send a link by chance? I am unable to find your quote anywhere in it. The word "injury"doesn't even show up in the find function.

You must click the "learn more" link on section 3 part B. The legally binding agreement is what's under the "learn more" links, after all, not the summaries.

Interesting - I see what you are seeing now. I would be interested to see how it would work out. I used to work for 1 of the 3 large internet search engine / email providers. And we were not allowed to provide any information to law enforcement without a subpoena. This included suicide threats and so on. The only thing we could do was send them the suicide prevention 1-800 #.

I'd be interested to know what Riot does. I would be surprised if they would risk a lawsuit over someones life that they would have no liability for.

A search engine doesn't really collect data directly. They just aggregate data - thus the liability would fall on whatever site originally collected the data (if any).

Some places, data collectors have a duty to report legitimate threats of harm to authorities. Even so, they kinda have a moral liability to do so.

And if you can provide me evidence a company has ever faced a legitimate lawsuit based on them reporting a legitimate risk of harm, I'd love it. Because I've never heard of one and I doubt one exists.

As a search engine we also did email as well as chatting apps. ( all 3 of the majors do ... Google / Yahoo / Microsoft ).

But looking at Facebook. Here is their current policy:

"Besides encouraging them to connect with a mental health expert at the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, we now also give them the option of reaching out to a friend, and provide tips and advice on how they can work through these feelings."

They do just as my last employer did ... encourage them to reach out to a mental health professional. But once again, they do not disclose information about you to LEO / Medical professionals.

Always sad to see someone playing a game they claim to hate. What a sad life.

Always sad to see someone playing a game they claim to hate. What a sad life.

They didn't hate league directly. They said they didn't find anything fun. Always sad to see people who take a condescending tone but don't bother reading what the other person said before making themselves look foolish. What a sad lifestyle.
