PSA: Constructive criticism

Due to a recent post there is now the issue of being banned for constructive criticism to your teammates. That alone is astonishing to know because isn't that was chat was meant for? i know belittling/toxic statements aren't allowed but when someone is being unreasonable to your game-play criticism and you call out what he/shes been acting like that's all of a sudden toxic? I respect the mods here most of the time but that fact you can't criticize game play without someone getting salty and mad at you therefor you pointing out how unreasonable they are is astonishing! I honestly don't know if i should ever use chat now.

Criticizing gameplay constructively and respectfully (or at least neutrally) is absolutely fine.

The issue with the thread in question was that the OP referred to his team as children, and dismissed a statement with someone by saying "you can't reason with an idiot." Regardless of how you personally take that (or how I take it, or how he intended it), the simple fact is that the system considers those to be insults. The critique could have been given without those comments, and without the arguments that emerged in his chat log.

In short, give constructive criticism, by all means. Just don't insult your teammates when you do so, and realize when it isn't helping and back off, as a consistent barrage of unwanted critique can lead to a bad game experience. If they want to listen, so be it, but you can't educate someone who refuses to listen, and you'll make yourself frustrated if you keep trying past that point.

No, there isn’t. I’d love to see you link this post that was only constructive criticism that resulted in a ban, without any abuse, harassment, or insults.

jhin, get grevious wounds pls, they have mundo

Yeah fine

jhin wtf why dont you have grevious wounds we literally lose bc of you

Not ok fam

Also, people don't have to listen to you. If you keep blaring "constructive criticism" to them, and they refuse to do it, stop doing it. You're just spamming. Saying it over and over does nothing. You are not in control of someone's gameplay choices.

Lot of ballot stuffing going on these threads lately.

I respect you Chermorg but really? this is a 14 day? give your head a shake bro. He's been constructive this whole chat and the idiots are belittling HIM and acting like children that have a temper tantrum when they have to go to bed but he gets banned for pointing it out after trying to negotiate with constructive game-play? I'm lost on whats a ban or not now.

Saw the title, and was hoping this would be a post explaining the differences between Constructive, non-constructive, and destructive criticisms and giving advice for how to provide constructive criticism.

Turns out it's someone trying to twist someone else's punishment as a reason to say "constructive criticism isn't allowed??".

I looked through that guy's chat log, and the guy wasn't being constructive. He was being a broken record. He badgered his team 12-13 times about Relic Shield's passive, and in general wasted a lot of time doing so. All of the time he spent with pointless arguing could've been better spent focusing on the game.

While I agree that Chermorg isn't right about the log being filled with insults and the like, that doesn't change that the guy's chat logs were combative and non-productive - and, more than that, non-constructive.

If you want to talk about Constructive Criticism, do so. But don't try to point at non-constructive criticism and say it's the same as constructive criticism.
