14-Day Ban for quoting another player in that same match

EDIT: This matter has been resolved and the ban has been lifted as a one-time mercy.

So, for context, I was in a premade with two friends playing a normal match like we always do. Got into a lobby and my friend and I decided to bring Taric and Leona into bot lane because it's fun if you can pull it off correctly. We get into a game with this Vi and quickly learn that they won't be of much use to use due to poor calls or missing her skillshots. That's fine, happens all the time in this game. My friend tells her to stay out of the lane since we keep being baited into going in with her only for her to leave us to die. At one point, the Vi just kinda walked into half their team and died, hence the "Is that an intentional feed I spy?" thing I wrote.

The game continues in this manner for a while, my friend and I losing our lane because I wasn't pulling my weight (my friends are way better than I ever will be) and we had already given up kills and the Vi going around and last hitting kills. Again, not a big deal to me. I play Taric, I'm not the one that's supposed to get kills. My friend and Vi get into an argument of some sort, I don't know how it started or who started it, but at some point Vi called my friend, the one not playing Leona apparently because I tuned most of it out, a "%%%", which, to anyone with half a brain, is easily translated into an insult. At some point things get taken into all chat and the enemy team asked what this Vi had done. You can see in the screenshot above what my reply was. Vi called me out saying they didn't technically say that so I corrected myself, as you see in the screenshot, and then later confirmed that they did indeed say that, though I forget if it was in team- or all-chat.

At this point I was more or less done being upset because, after all, this is just a game I play in my spare time with my friends, so I started talking about the background stuff that doesn't really get mentioned that much, like the balloons that come from Zoe or the frog that jumped off the side of the map. We end up losing the match, my friends and I report the Vi for their conduct in the game, and leave the lobby to start waiting around for another match. I get kicked out of the lobby saying that I'm getting banned and to relog for details. Above is what I received when I got back in.

As far as I can remember, I haven't gotten a ban before, or even a warning. I'm pretty quiet in-game. I'll ping when it's appropriate and I'll thank people when they do nice things like let me take blue buff. I'm sure I've been reported before because I doubt anyone playing this game for more than a month hasn't, but still. I'm certain that I hit tag words and the report caught them, but there was no consideration of context there. I'm sitting on a support ticket but felt I should at least share because this is pretty not cool. As far as my friends can tell that Vi went unpunished since they haven't received a notification that their report resulted in anything.

as AeroWaffle said, send a support ticket. I personally don't think your ban is deserved

The word you used is considered a "zero tolerance phrase" by the machine that processes reports (Humans have had literally 0 interaction with the individual reports for quite some time) - if you say it twice (or two of them once) it's an instant 14 day or perma (If you've already been 14 day'd) if even one person reports you.

Support will probably revert this though.

Support isn't going to reverse this, And IDK why these people are telling you so.

Other players behavior doesn't excuse your behavior. If someone is using derogatory slang, that does not give you the right to quote them back.

quoting someone's toxic speech is a bad idea. the computer program that handles most punishments cant tell the difference between quotes and someone saying the bad things.

Hey! I've had my 14 day ban removed, and it took 3 days for them to respond. You have a decent shot as long as you give context. I hope you get unbanned!

I've been in this exact situation in the past where I quoted our Azir for saying the "n" word.

Riot doesn't give two shits, they'll give you the classic "others behavior doesn't excuse your behavior", which is bullshit, because it has been reversed in the past: https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/player-behavior-moderation/Q7AZAwxN-banning-resolved

It really depends on who you're talking to, some employees will be a hardass, and some will understand the context in which it was used in.

I think your support ticket has a decent shot at getting this reversed. As long as this is all that went into the ban and there wasn't any other bad behavior to be known.

There's no point in ever quoting zero tolerance policy words that other people say. It increases the chances of false positives.

Trying to bring it to someone else's attention also has no purpose because the system only checks if the game has been reported, it doesn't matter if one person reports or if multiple people report. If you want to tell them their language isn't acceptable, you can do so politely, but just mute and report them.

Focus on playing the game and not on dealing with toxic chat.
