The problem behind the report system

Hello community,

TL/DR at the end of the post.

today I want you to explain to you why I think the current report system is very bad.

First of all, let us think about what is the main goal of League of Legends. The main goal is to play as a team and win versus the other team. Now let us quickly realize how League of Legends actually is: The team with less flamer + more smurfs/booster (another critical topic) usually wins.

Why is that? Once a team starts flaming, the people stop focus on playing the game. They become busy arguing about who to report. Why? Because the report system exists. If there were not report system at all, I am pretty sure people would not waste so much time arguing. Also, I am pretty sure one of the most written words inside a game is "report", at least this is one of the most common words I have written in my years of playing League of Legends.

People spend too much energy arguing about who to report Who does not know it? The game starts well. Then a wrong gank, tilt, flame. Suddenly, people are just busy with telling in all that who to report. At least two people in your team are not focusing anymore rather than just muting each other. Is that really how we want toxic things to be handled?

Use the mute button rather than argue Let us remember the main goal of League of Legends, play as a team... play. So instead of arguing, why is the system not leading us in a direction of focusing on playing? I think people should be lead in a way they are using the mute button in the game more, so they can actually focus on the game.

Solution? A quick idea could be that, once someone starts flaming, the game could block his chat in-game for the current game. I think that would have more effect than chat banning him post the game because, in that time, one game has been distracted already. We do have emotes, so in case someone getting toxic, his chat can be muted in-game, but he still can use pings for the important stuff.

Why is there flame any game? Also, I do not think that it has any effect. I am seeing flaming people in 98% of my games. Shouldn't there be an improvement over time, after all those years, if the system had a positive effect? In fact, I think the system even motivates people to flame, to argue, so don't focus on the game. Also, let us not forget, that banned people just create new accounts. They will still exist after the game, but you lost the game because you were busy arguing about him.

What do you guys think? Are you like me annoyed by the fast people are distracted about the current report system rather than playing the game? Do you have any other ideas, which could lead to a better gaming experience? Let me know your thoughts.

TL/DR Use the report button only in silent. Don't argue about reports. Use the mute button instead of and play the game what you are supposed to play. Temporary automatic mute function in the game could help.

I try to educate folks in game when someone says to report someone else. Sometimes it helps, other times it doesn't.

But frankly, some people don't want to be reasoned with. When you encounter teammates who are bent on arguing or being negative, then yeah, muting and playing your game are the best options at that point.

I don't think a system that kicks in during the game is a good idea. There's always the possibility that the player will change during the game and start focusing on objectives.

When enough people learn that along for reports is useless, people will just flame in another way.

They really need to add a loading screen tip or something that mentions that 1 report is equal to 9, and there's no point in asking for other players to report someone.

It's not the current system that's the issue, it's a lack of knowledge about the system and how poorly Riot does in informing players how it functions.

Lol 98%... i love random ass percentages people throw out. Alot of the problems you address would be solved if people would just educate themselves. Unfortunately, its a video game, so its a casual thing that people dont think about too deeply. They are blissfully ignorant, and this is the result; arguing over who to report. Its fuckin dumb. 1 report is the same as 9 in one game. I would say Riot should do a better job informing people of the rules, but I dont know how. I rarely even notice loading screen tips anymore. IF i didnt have a boring job I would never have been on the forums and learned about all the nuances of the report system. So yeah, Idk.
