So my account since S3 just got banned permanently.
Hey there. I'm Cryn. I've been playing on and off since the beginning of S3. I've played a little of everything, but generally I'm the generic 'tons of stats' guy that initiates the fights for you. Illaoi, Singed, Trundle, Voli and the like. I finally played ranked in S5 and got s1, then promoted to gold purely to get season rewards. This year, for the first time, I wanted to see how high I could go. In the span of the last two months, I have been suspended for 2 weeks twice, then banned permanently just tonight. I owned most of the champions, and a handful of skins for the champs I actually played.
Now, let me be upfront. League, and in particular ranked, brings out the worst in me. In my daily life, I'm as well-adjusted and understanding as most people. But I'm unforgiving in league. Both to myself and other players. When an enemy with low health kites and kills me because I missed my skill shots, I'm seething. When my Tristana jumps directly into the enemy team at 40 minutes to chase a fleeing Blitzcrank, I'm shouting in my head. When people intentionally feed, I just want to spit venom into their souls. I'm what Riot considers toxic. So, do I deserve my ban? Eh, maybe. Depends on how much you think shouting at people with a mute button should be a bannable offense. I mean, seriously, if they are triggered by words, they have the power in this relationship. They can just not listen. But they don't mute. Because like every normal person, they get engaged in the argument. Unlike me, however, they feel the need to report after the game.
All that said, while they haven't ended up in the logs I got banned for, I've said some deplorable things to people across chat. The worst of which were said to my own team mates, but hell, I've used toxicity as a strategy, mocking failed ganks in all chat when I wanted to divert more pressure top while I was ahead, so my team could catch up. I've asked the enemy assassin why his tank didn't peel for him, even when I know its the assassin's fault, just to stir the pot on the enemy team. Whether toxicity in chat should be bannable or not, morale is a very real factor in league, and some fragile kids can only take a perceived bad jungler before they're throwing mid open and begging to /ff at 20. Mid players, Yasuos and Rivens especially. I can definitely say winnable games were lost by me, not because I've failed at my role, but because I've shattered cohesion in the team.
But heres the thing. I've never intentionally afk'd. I've tilted, but I've never fed intentionally. I've yelled, but I've never abandoned a team mate to let them die for its own sake. I play to win, aggressively, every game. And yet, riot's system regards me as the enemy. Context is an important thing, and I remember every game I've ever been banned for. In this latest batch that got me permanently banned, I asked my mid "Who fucking molested you today?" among other horrible things. What you don't see, because their logs aren't added, is the constant toxicity he gave me for not ganking, or how he stood in base and threatened to afk at 7 minutes, or any of the statements and actions that provoked that kind of response. But, he hit the report button, so I get banned.
In the second game log I got permanently banned for, I asked my Braum if he was disabled, since he didn't seem capable of pressing his button. Then, when he said he was, I told him if he had a disability that lowered his capacity to play, he probably shouldn't be in ranked. Horrible, right? What you don't see is the first time mordekaiser top, coming into ranked with his unranked scrub buddies playing bot, and the gang up they did in chat to put the blame for their losing on the one guy not in their skype chat. Then his bot lane followed me in the jungle and trolled by last hitting the large minion at every camp. Because of course, que partners aren't more prone to toxicity at all, right Riot? but, again, they all spammed the report button, so I get the shaft.
The final log I got permanently banned for, I mocked my team for refusing to go in, constantly leaving me, the only tank on the team, to die after I initiated, because they'd see damage, and damage is scary. I focused particularly harshly on a First Time Kled, who after getting one kill against a darius, decided he needed to SHARE his power, and forced me to cover his lane against a darius, for over 4 minutes. He came back to lane with basically nothing to show for it, several levels behind, with a darius who basically had free farm. Kled tried to explain that his constant feeding later into the game was justified because he 'almost got the kill.' I told him 'Yep. Only time to go in when its the worst possible opportunity. Can't go ham when its actually beneficial to the team. That would break the KLED ROLEPLAYING HOUR. You goddamned mongoloid.'
See, I'll be the first to admit. I'm not a great player to be in a game with if you're having a bad game and don't respond well to criticism. But heres the thing. I'm not pleasant to be in a game with, lets say, at least half the time. But what are these other players? The ones hitting the report tabs and submitting context-free logs to be judged? Who is worse for the game, the guy who threatens to afk if he doesn't get his way, of the guy who calls him out for it? According to the system, me. Who is wasting the time of 9 other people, the guy throwing the game because he doesn't care if he loses because he's a tilting trash heap? Or the guy screaming at him to grow a pair? Who is worse for the game, the man who speaks toxicity, or the man who acts with toxicity? Because I know what the system says. And no system is perfect. I'm just asking for functional. I'm permanently banned, and I gave it my all in every game I ever played in, per the summoner's code. But if I had just muted everyone, and passive aggressively stood under tower for twenty minutes, farming and throwing the game but doing so in a way the game won't pick up? I'd still be playing. Expression is punished. Trolling is embraced. And League enables the tumblerettes to hypocritically talk trash, while reporting afterwards. Here's an idea. When a player hits the report button? Submit THEIR logs seperately to be reviewed. I guarantee you'd cut down on the reports, and paint a much clearer picture of the landscape of your game's community.
