15 Day Suspension, What Happens Next - Questions Inside

Yujiza·2/19/2019, 7:58:15 AM·4 votes·5,058 views

Hey everyone, questions are towards the bottom. Just giving a bit of context to this post.

It happened. Something I never thought would happen to me.. actually happened. I got a 15 day suspension.

I may as well get it out of the way and post the dialog first. How embarrassing.

Game 1 In-Game Yujiza: [All] Nice man Yujiza: [All] What is it? Yujiza: [All] Nice! ^_^ Yujiza: Shut up Yujiza: Eat a d--k f----t Yujiza: You Yujiza: Va chiez Yujiza: YHou too f----t Yujiza: YOu don't need to say shit like that Yujiza: Instead you feel compelled "like an adult" to talk shit Yujiza: Yeah okay Yujiza: Next time watch your teammate fight for about 5 more seconds Yujiza: maybne then you'll win the fight Yujiza: [All] Bait ward :( Yujiza: We went back in because of you Yujiza: Don't ping you're going in then don't. Yujiza: Ult was LONG over. Yujiza: [All] gg Yujiza: [All] hope you enjoy your new card. Yujiza: [All] it's all good, this jungler is awful, asking me if I can land hooks. Yujiza: [All] I rather lose than win with this ashshole.

NOTE; I added "-" to remove the foul language I used, and added "[All]" because it didn't copy-paste over for some reason. The words I used is another word for cigarette (not in a good way), and when your cellphone auto corrects the word to duck.

I lost my cool. I let him get right under my skin and for whatever reason I decided to verbally fight back hard. Clearly it didn't pay off because I'm the fool who's suspended. This is much more serious than I thought—I got too comfortable. I subconsciously felt safe from any suspension because I never received a warning. I hardly do anything like this at all (probably less than 1% of my games). Even though there is no consistency, it doesn't excuse my stupid decision—even for a single game. I'll be apologizing to the player in question and teammates who had to endure us when I get back.

If it's worth any context to what happened in game; a player made a negative comment about my hooks (playing Pyke), and I responded (like an idiot) rather than ignoring it. I didn't feed intentionally or anything like that, just responded whenever he said something to me. God I feel so freaking dumb. This freaking blows. Ugh.

Now that I got that out of the way and fully deserve any incoming condescending comments, I have a few questions. I tried to look around to find some answers, but there's no official link/FAQ I can find, and it's all otherwise outdated. Bare in mind, I ask these questions not to abuse or circumvent the system.

1. What are the suspension steps (ladder?) before your account is fully suspended? _ - I was under the impression it was a warning, a few hours or day suspension, 2 weeks, and so on..._

2. Is the suspension process automatic or checked by a human?

3. Can this suspension be removed off my record after some time to avoid any possible automatic suspensions? - the example here is a toxic player reporting me for having a bad game, and the system flagging me due to being suspended before.

4. Can I still get honor rewards back in the same season? How long does it take to unlock - does it take a huge amount of games/honor? - I won't get suspended ever again, but due to time, I can be limited to play this game sometimes. I would love the end of season rewards.

5. When I come out of the suspension, can I still chat and play the game as normal or are there limitations?

6. Is there even a slither (of the smallest kind) I can request for a secondary review? - I won't excuse my foolish decision, however curious if positive game play history has any merit.

**7. Was there a question I didn't ask where some more information would be important for my situation. **

8. Have you been suspended before too? What tips have you used or created for yourself to avoid being foolish like I was? _- I may as well make something positive out of this thread by asking this question. I never want to be suspended ever again. _

I really appreciate anyone who takes a bit of their time to respond to me. I feel utterly defeated and embarrassed. At least I can look forward to something here while I await the suspension to pass and move forward with a strong mind about this experience.

Thanks again,

Yujiza

  1. What are the suspension steps (ladder?) before your account is fully suspended?
  • I was under the impression it was a warning, a few hours or day suspension, 2 weeks, and so on...

These steps that are commonly followed (10 game chat restriction, 25 game chat restriction, 14 day gameplay ban, permanent ban) can have steps skipped when zero-tolerance language (or "hate speech") is used.

Usually, you jump right to a 14 day ban after using zero-tolerance language.

  1. Is the suspension process automatic or checked by a human?

Most of the reporting processes relating to language are automated. I've heard cases of there being manual review, but it's only for specific situations. You can find more information on the Support Website.

  1. Can this suspension be removed off my record after some time to avoid any possible automatic suspensions?

Outright removed: no, unfortunately. It takes consistent, positive action to lessen the severity of your punishment status. Over time it will go down on it's own as long as you stay positive while you play. (Going AFK for long periods of time or starting up a new account to try to "wait out" the punishment tier time also doesn't work - you have to actively play the game and remain positive.)

  1. Can I still get honor rewards back in the same season? How long does it take to unlock - does it take a huge amount of games/honor?

From personal experience and talking with other people, this can take anywhere from a month to 2/3 months. Just focus on staying positive and getting your account back to a good standing, don't worry about the rewards.

  1. When I come out of the suspension, can I still chat and play the game as normal or are there limitations?

There aren't physical limitations (you can still chat and play the game as you would before, albeit without Hextech Crafting + end of season rewards) but there is one thing you should be aware of.

Using any negative language (at all, seriously, any type of language at any point in the game regardless of context) will result in your account being permanently banned. You have to stay positive and really show reform.

Generally, if you aren't going to say something like "We can do this", "Good job team", or "ggwp all", I just wouldn't use chat. Keep it simple, keep it positive, and immediately mute anyone who's giving you a hard time.

  1. Is there even a slither (of the smallest kind) I can request for a secondary review?

In normal cases there may have been (even though the chances are very slim) but given that you got banned for zero-tolerance language, there's no leniency here. Riot cracks down very hard on this behavior and there's nothing you can do but accept the punishment.

  1. Was there a question I didn't ask where some more information would be important for my situation.

Gotta hammer the point home: Stay positive. Mute people who are giving you a hard time or spamming pings on you, disable all chat, and only type positive messages

  1. Have you been suspended before too? What tips have you used or created for yourself to avoid being foolish like I was?

Yeah, I was suspended about 3 years ago and never got my account back to this day. (I don't expect to lol)

It's not worth it. While you may not be fuming mad on the surface, flaming and bming and getting into dumb arguments about stupid shit doesn't do anything but ruin your enjoyment of the game and put your account at risk. It's. Not. Worth. It.

Don't be stupid like I and so many others were, just restore your account and let this be a one time slip-up.

There's no point in mincing words, you used hate speech. That definitely warrants a 14-day ban.

1) What are the suspension steps (ladder?) before your account is fully suspended? - I was under the impression it was a warning, a few hours or day suspension, 2 weeks, and so on...

The punishment ladder is as follows;

  • 10-game Chat Restriction
  • 25-game Chat Restriction
  • 14-day Ban
  • Permanent Ban

Using hate speech (as you did) or encouraging self-harm are considered zero tolerance, however, and skip the chat restrictions and result in a 14-day ban on the first offense.

And, I want to stress this: In the reform card for the 14-day suspension, it warns that any further misbehavior will result in a permanent ban. You have to be on your absolute best behavior from hereon out, elsewise, you'll wind up on the metaphorical curb.

2) Is the suspension process automatic or checked by a human?

By and large, automated. 99% of punishments for chat-related offenses are handled by the Instant Feedback System (IFS), while a scant few reports are manually reviewed by Riot to check for the potential occasional false-positive.

3) Can this suspension be removed off my record after some time to avoid any possible automatic suspensions? - the example here is a toxic player reporting me for having a bad game, and the system flagging me due to being suspended before.

Yes, you can de-escalate punishment tiers, and you can do so to a "clean slate" state as well. However, it takes a tremendous amount of time to do so from the 14-day ban, as it takes on average around 4-6 months of consistent play without breaking the rules to de-escalate one tier.

That said, even while you're at the stage you are, you shouldn't worry about other people reporting you so long as you're playing by the rules. Don't flame, don't respond to toxicity, play to win, and other people's reports won't mean jack.

4) Can I still get honor rewards back in the same season? How long does it take to unlock - does it take a huge amount of games/honor? - I won't get suspended ever again, but due to time, I can be limited to play this game sometimes. I would love the end of season rewards.

Considering that the season has pretty much only just begun, yeah, you've got ample time to climb to Honor Level 2 again. The amount of time it takes varies based on your behavior and how frequently you play - someone showing exemplary behavior playing 10~ games a day can clear a Checkpoint each week, but someone with more casual playtimes and neutral behavior will take a little longer.

Either way, you've got all year to reclimb in Honor.

5) When I come out of the suspension, can I still chat and play the game as normal or are there limitations?

No limitations besides the rules themselves. Once the 14-day Suspension is cleared, you can play the game and chat as normal.

The only caveat to this I suppose would be restrictions on Hextech Crafting (particularly ambient key drops) and Seasonal Split Points tied to your Honor Level, but I figure that's different enough not to count.

6) Is there even a slither (of the smallest kind) I can request for a secondary review? - I won't excuse my foolish decision, however curious if positive game play history has any merit.

You can submit it for manual review, but you'd almost certainly get the same response there as you would here - your punishment was justified, and there's nothing that can really be done for it.

Previous positive behavioral history only matters insofar as it sets the expectation for your current and future behavior. As it stands, if you were good for two years and went off hard in your third season, those two years aren't really going to affect your punishment any.

7) Have you been suspended before too? What tips have you used or created for yourself to avoid being foolish like I was? - I may as well make something positive out of this thread by asking this question. I never want to be suspended ever again.

Personally, I've never received any of the mainline punishments, but I do at least have some behavioral tips that may be helpful.

Here's a link to the full comment this is snipped from, but I'll also quote the tips themselves here:

  1. First and foremost, practice breathing exercises. Four seconds in, seven seconds out, repeat a few times as necessary. In particularly stressful situations, some well-paced breaths can provide enough catharsis to clear your head and get you back into playing form.

  2. This is gonna be some generic advice, but have something on hand to vent with - squeeze a stress ball, punch a pillow, fuck around with a fidget spinner, or even shout obscenities at your monitor. Anything outside of the game to give you a release valve when stuff inside the game is working you up.

  3. Take breaks often. Like the anger that is a byproduct of such, playtime is something that has to be managed. It's easy to let yourself get caught up in a positive feedback loop of losing, tilting, queuing up, losing, tilting, etc., so even if you don't want to end your play session on a loss, I'd wholeheartedly advise to take a break at the first sign of tilt. Personally, I take breaks roughly every 1-3 games.

  4. Redirect your anger to something constructive. Anger, as I have learned, is seldom something that can be easily dissipated, much less recovered from, so I've found that one of the best ways of dealing with anger is to change its course. Rather than getting bent out of shape at my teammates for underperforming, I'll focus on setting an example and giving the enemy team hell. No sense in wasting good rage, y'know?

  5. Have a friend/sibling/anyone to vent to. In a similar vein to No. 2, having a vent partner, just anyone who you can rant and rave at while the game is going on, can make a hell of a difference. It's one thing to diffuse your anger by shouting "fuck, goddammit, sunovabitch" at every grey screen, but there's much more catharsis to be found in being heard and having someone to understand why you're shouting.

  6. And, lastly, if you're going to say something, think it, re-think it, and think again. If you really, absolutely must say something, make sure you say it in the best way you can. Rewriting or rethinking what you're going to say may take time, but being tactful can save you a lot of flak, and who knows? In the time it takes to figure out the best way to say it, you may find out that there's no reason to say it at all.

Hopefully some of it helps you - anger is one hell of a beast to wrestle with, and half of the time it'll be a losing situation where all you can do is hold it back and slow it down. But, knowing how to do it at the very least can go a long way to preventing it from getting the better of you.

8) And lastly; was there a question I didn't ask where some more information would be important for my situation.

Not that I can think of. For your part, you seem to know all the questions you'd need to ask.

It looks like most of your questions have been answered, so I’ll just add a couple things.

  1. The fact that you were calm and collected enough to write this post without blaming others or flaming people shows that you have a very good chance of not progressing to get more punishments. That doesn’t mean it’s guaranteed and it will still take some work on your part.

  2. The important thing now is making sure you’re only using chat for positive or at worst neutral communication. While trash talking is fun and acceptable, it can easily go too far and turn into flaming/abuse that could result in a further punishment. I’d recommend not even risking trash talk or joking around with people, because it would suck to get banned because you accidentally went too far. For people who’ve never gotten punished, going too far every once in a while won’t get them a punishment, but since you’ll be just coming off a punishment your behavior is treated more strictly for a few months, as it’s expected you’ll be on your “best” behavior.

  1. Zero tolerance words are grounds for immediate suspension.

  2. In this case, probably automatic.

  3. They always stay, although in these cases they're probably irrelevant because they don't have the same implications as say a griefer or troll.

  4. You'll have to work for your honor, absolutely.

  5. I'm fairly certain you'll be able to play just fine once you get back.

  6. Probably not, seeing as this was an automatic suspension and not necessarily a reviewed one.

  7. Yes. I got a chat restriction for referring to people as garden tools. I knew what I did, wasn't gonna have a bitchfit over it as is per usual on the boards. Just mute. That's all you got to do.

Voldymort, Hotarµ. and Umbral Regent, thanks for your replies. Means a lot.

I know it can seem cliche for my post. Back in tribunal days, I'd be the one replying to posts like these.

I don't have an active temper thankfully, just moments of frustration to people who flame me or other players. I never outright feed or try to lose games, nor do I ever begin flaming player's mistakes, I just have to fight the urge to retaliate to people who flame.

Edit, Oh, one more question to ask about honor, please see my latest post.

What are the suspension steps (ladder?) before your account is fully suspended?

  • I was under the impression it was a warning, a few hours or day suspension, 2 weeks, and so on...

no

there are 4 stages of punishment: 10 game chat ban 25 game chat ban 2 week ban permaban the punishments are related to/ influenced by each other

Suppose this was your first time being toxic and you get a 10 game chat ban

if you finish your 10 game chat ban and you are toxic again, guess what? you don't get 10 game chat ban again! you get the next punishment in ascending order: the 25 game chat ban. rince and repeat for the other 2 instances

you can by-pass the chat restrictions and get the two week ban right off the bat by being, racist, sexist, homophobic, by using words like “kys”, “%%%%%%” or “autist” or by inting

Is the suspension process automatic or checked by a human?

it's both automatic and reliable. people getting their punishments removed by filing in a support ticket afterwards is an event that happens once in a blue moon... if that

Can this suspension be removed off my record after some time to avoid any possible automatic suspensions?

  • the example here is a toxic player reporting me for having a bad game, and the system flagging me due to being suspended before.

the timeframe isn't set in stone but it is believed that 3-4 months of non-toxic playing is a fairly accurate assumption about when punishments get removed from your history

Can I still get honor rewards back in the same season? How long does it take to unlock - does it take a huge amount of games/honor?

  • I won't get suspended ever again, but due to time, I can be limited to play this game sometimes. I would love the end of season rewards.

the requirements for end of season rewards was not revealed yet but based on past experience, i'd say that honor will play a big part on it

concerning, wether it takes a lot of games or not, it's a quality over quantity situation. it varies from user to user depending on how much you can contain your ego in game chat

When I come out of the suspension, can I still chat and play the game as normal or are there limitations?

someone who just got out of a punishment has a much higher chance of getting punished again than one who was never punished

Is there even a slither (of the smallest kind) I can request for a secondary review?

you can. sure. send in a ticket. but don't get your hopes up

  • I won't excuse my foolish decision, however curious if positive game play history has any merit.

previous positive gameplay history doesn't get you punished. thats all. it doesn't function as a shield against future negative attitude

Have you been suspended before too? What tips have you used or created for yourself to avoid being foolish like I was?

  • I may as well make something positive out of this thread by asking this question. I never want to be suspended ever again.

"ïf you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all"

And lastly; was there a question I didn't ask where some more information would be important for my situation.

after the 2 week ban ends, the next time you break the rules, you'll get permabanned. try to control yourself! don't harass, don't flame, don't spam the chat, don't belittle, don't threaten with reports, don't ask for reports, don't use the chat unless it's in a positive manner. the lobby and end game chats are monitored too.

Just compliment the enemy team, you're being positive so there's no harm done. :)

You are not allowed to experience a negative emotion while participating in Riot's sadistic social experiment. Any language harsher than "aw, shucks" is punishable by jail time or immediate execution. Riot will keep every last penny you spent and lock you out of the content you pay for while berating you for typing a bad word on your keyboard.

Stay positive!

A question popped into my mind. I don't mean to seem obsessive—I just want everything to return to normal like this didn't happen.

  • When I duo with my partner, will that effect the progress of getting my honor back? - I notice when I play duos or team games, even if I get upvote from other players who are not in my duo/team, my honor stages don't move. It takes forever for them to increase. When I play solo, I notice progress.
