14 day ban for.... what?

League of Legends Match History

Dear League of Legends community,

I played a game 3 days ago with a Nocturne jungle, a Kayle top, a Syndra mid, and a Blitzcrank support. I am fairly new to this game as I am only level 16. I got a 14 day ban for being "toxic, and unsportsmanlike conduct" which I do not agree with this decision and let me tell you why. First of, the jungler that I played with (nocturne) was flaming our top lane Kayle the whole time because the enemy got a double kill top early on in the game, because of some reason, and after that, he kept spam pinging whenever she died. After a good 10 mins of hearing nocturne being toxic, he starts coming bot lane and takes my cs when i clearly wasn't doing alot better. After a while, a fed Twisted Fate or something (I forgot, played this game like 3 days ago) comes bot lane to kill me, because I was behind in cs so I was free farming bot. And Nocturne was sitting in bush waiting for him to come. I was baiting twisted fate to the bush where nocturne was camping, but he didn't bother coming out to help me. Instead, he watches me take twisted fate down to 30% hp and charges in to take the kill. He clearly had no intention of helping and just wanted kills. AND to add on to that, he SPAM pings me when I die.... Moving on. Later on in the game, I pinged him if I could take blue as I was really low on mana, he sits in the bush beside blue buff and waits for me to take the buff low enough, and then smites it even though I pinged him "on my way" and my mana percentage. Not only that, he was being extremely toxic to our team AND the enemy team by BM'ing every kill he got and laughing. Me, Syndra, and Kayle decided to report him and a few from the enemy team decided as well that this nocturne was extremely toxic, rude, and a troll who was just trying to tilt his team. So, my question is, What did I do? I wasn't toxic to the enemy team OR my team in the entire game. In fact, I was talking to the Graves and Xin Zhao most of the game. I didn't flame Kayle because she fed graves and twisted fate. I didn't flame Blitzcrank for taking my cs and kills. And I didn't flame the enemy team when they killed me/I killed them. To Top it all off, I WAS THE ONE GETTING BANNED even though you can clearly see who the real culprit is from the chat logs that I have provided below. You let the person off the hook who has been causing all the trouble, and punishing the person who is just standing up for his team and himself. Yes, I understand I was swearing a fair bit in this game, but, that is not against the summoner code, only swearing AT someone is against the code, which I'm pretty sure I haven't done so. Thank You for reading through all this and I hope you make a justified decision that is beneficial for the league community.

May I ask if you were previously punished before the 14-day ban?

Unless zero-tolerance behaviour is there, 14-day bans don't get given out of nowhere.

No I have never been punished in any way before. No chat restriction, no bans, nothing.

While I don't see any zero-tolerance chat in what was posted and I can't check the account's history, I do see that the overwhelming majority of the chat above is overly negative. That's a heluva lot of typing for one game XD

Any chat which targets someone explicitely is considered "negative" (writing for context). Even if a 14-day ban wasn't given right now, the chat above would lead to one down the line.

The following isn't acceptable behaviour: -blaming, attacking, and calling out teammates in-chat -asking for reports (one report is enough to trigger a game review)

If someone bugs you in-game just mute them (hold tab and click the little microphone near their name) but don't tell them you've muted them.
Focusing on the game is more important than whatever they're going to say, and this way we also don't have to type back to them^^.

Ya that's true. I type a lot lmao. But I didn't know asking for reports was considered to be "bannable". Otherwise how else would the enemy team know if Nocturne was toxic or not. Besides, muting won't help against a buff steal, or smiting canon minions, or if someone else on my team was getting flamed by Nocturne. All that's gonna do is prevent me from seeing what's happening in the outside world.

Why do they need to know if he's toxic or not? Your report is all that's needed to review the game.

Yes. That is, in fact, how most reporting systems will work - it avoids abuse that way.

So am I still going to have to go through the ban? Even though I don't believe I was at fault other than negative attitude towards Nocturne (who I believe deserved it). I understand now that begging for reports won't do any good.

Well, you claim to have never had chat restrictions before so you may have a chance of getting this reduced to a chat restriction assuming you didn't edit your logs or leave anything out. I recommend filing a support ticket with Player Support and politely asking them if this severe of a punishment was deserved off this offense.

It's technically classified as simply negative behaviour, but over time the negative behaviour adds up with the other stuff to "bannable" if that makes sense?

They don't need to know. Your single report after the game will trigger a review of the game to see if he was toxic or not. Their "extra" reports don't do jack sht.

Nope, but it'll help your personal sanity and stop it from affecting the next game. One Nocturne isn't worth your time or even a space in your memory.

All that's gonna do is prevent me from seeing what's happening in the outside world.

Will we ever see that Nocturne/[insert toxic person/troll] again? Probably not. The outside world is relative; winning a keyboard fight against a troll isn't worth your effort. Winning that fight also isn't worth your account.

Let them dig their hole through trolling and keep the ammo for the post-game report. [sg-syndra]

Yup, I get it.

I'll give you a heads up that it gets much worse though, so maybe it's best to just /muteall at the beginning of each game. Pretend your whole team is NPCs and just focus on you.

It's rare that chat leads to good stuff if your focus is getting better at League.

First, you would be better off ping muting the other players if you can't handle them spamming. Second, mute them if you can't handle their toxic flame.

But, if you want to know what you got suspended for, it is easy:

If saying "stfu" got me banned then you might as well discontinue League of Legends as pretty much everyone says that AT LEAST once every week. And when I said "i fucking hate you", I was just expressing my true feelings towards Nocturne. If you were in my place I'd love to see how you'd deal with that.

It isn't just that, it is the constant antagonizing of the other player(s). In addition to that, you argue over "who has lag", and you harass some more by trying to get others to report them. I'm going to guess you had a 25-day chat restriction not long ago.

How about next time you express your feelings verbally and not in chat?

Also another tip, if ever anyone is flaming you or being annoying just mute them.

I mute them and then enjoy the game. It's real easy to do. Ping muting was one of the greatest QOL updates Riot gave us, use it.

The key to this is that you need to control your own actions. It is not what the other player did that got you suspended, it's how you reacted. If someone is feeding, then mute them and do your best to win the game. Yes, you will most likely lose the match, but you can still hone your skills and get better.
