Honor recovery

I played religiously when my honor dropped to level 0 and improved my behavior immensely. I got very few honors in the process (unless I was solo carrying). From that time period that I played a metric fuck ton, my honor only went up to checkpoint 1 of 3.

I've hardly played any games since then and don't really get honors at all since now I play 1-2 games every once in awhile maybe 4 at most in a 14-day period. Magically I've gone from checkpoint 1 of 3 back to honor level 1 during this period of hardly playing. I think maybe in the few months I barely played I got maybe 13-16 honors in total, so I don't get how that somehow pushed me back to honor level 1.

I know Riot isn't going to tell anyone how it's actually based, but it seems to be heavily weighed on time instead of actually getting honored at the end of the game. Anyone else notice this or have thoughts on it?

To my knowledge, the primary calculation is based on games and honors - however there is a time "limit" - as in you cannot earn honor faster than some maximum rate per day.

Personally I feel its like that you get some amount of honor for playing the game start to finish with a bonus if everyone honored someone. So you don't really need to get honored to rise in ranks, but it helps fairly a lot - With a cap that resets maybe weekly? Monthly? I dunno.
