Misconstrued Instant Feedback & Where I Went Wrong?

So sometime a little over a year ago I quit league because I was finding it too be way too taxing. I would enjoy it in small bursts but over extended periods of time it would start to stress me out bad. I started getting chat restrictions and short bans, so finally I decided I needed a break. Recently, I rejoined. I'll be the first to admit, I'm still not your perfect player. If the team is arguing, I tend to argue, but I don't necessarily consider myself overly toxic, at least not to the point of warranting a permaban, which is what I received today.

When I logged back in, I got a chat log of the game that cost me my 4 year old account.

Game 1 NoLove4TheseHoes: no no my good man NoLove4TheseHoes: fuck you. NoLove4TheseHoes: idk ekkos the %%%got not me NoLove4TheseHoes: lol NoLove4TheseHoes: rofl NoLove4TheseHoes: LMFAO NoLove4TheseHoes: ff NoLove4TheseHoes: yall got owned. NoLove4TheseHoes: for what? NoLove4TheseHoes: lmfao karma you just called ihm a retard.. NoLove4TheseHoes: why would he ult that NoLove4TheseHoes: how are we losing to this. NoLove4TheseHoes: draven late game is shit tho NoLove4TheseHoes: and we have a kog NoLove4TheseHoes: ggg NoLove4TheseHoes: lol kog

Now, here's where I'm struggling to understand this. On line 3, I made a reference to the fact our Ekko had spent the entire pregame lobby and early game making jokes about being homosexual, and so when the enemy Draven made a comment my way, I redirected it. If both teams can be mature about some risque level humor, taking like adults (as childish as gay jokes are), I see no reason why it should be ban worthy. Players set the standard for the behavior of the match, and as long as everyone is playing along, so be it.

The second and final line in which I can see anything even remotely "toxic" is line 10. The dialogue behind this is the allied Karma said she was going to report Ekko for not playing well. Then she called him a retard. I thought this was funny considering she was the one being toxic, which brings me to line 10.

I get that I'm not the nicest player. But I'd just like to see what anyone might think about this.

This is the line that got you in trouble.

While I tend to agree, there are a few sticking points here.

First and foremost, there's a difference between risque humor and derogatory language. Sure, it may fly with your group of friends, and, in that case, I'm not going to tell you you're not allowed to use certain words. But in a place like League it's not really acceptable if even a single person has to see it unwillingly: sure, they CAN mute you, but the onus should not be on the victim of abusive/offensive behavior to either tolerate it or mute the offender. The important point here is that if a single person in that game finds that language to be toxic, they are justified in reporting you.

...which is the case here, it seems, since SOMEONE clearly found your behavior reprehensible enough to report you. I know that seems unfair, but Riot does have a fairly zero-tolerance approach to that sort of language, so it's risky even if you're SURE everyone is okay with it, as even a report as a joke can come back to bite you. This is ESPECIALLY true coming off of a previous ban. A hatespeech/derogatory language report recently after a ban is basically a 100% way to escalate your punishment back up.

Does the behavior warrant a permanent ban in and of itself? Probably not -- I'd have given you a strict warning for that sort of language, since I've seen worse, but still want to push the idea that that language isn't allowed in League.

The issue here (and the one that many people don't fully understand) is that you CAN eventually receive a ban for behavior that would "normally" just merit a chat restriction. If your previous punishment was the warning ban before a permanent ban, the question should be "does this behavior warrant ANY level of punishment," as Riot has effectively given you your last warning. In this case this game DOES seem like it would merit a punishment. It's just unfortunate for you that, based on your prior behavior, that punishment pushed you over the line into the permanent ban.

there are 4 tiers of punishment

  1. 10 game chat restrict
  2. 25 game chat restrict
  3. 14-day ban
  4. permaban

anything that can get you a punishment will eventually get you permabanned.

The punishment tiers decay with games played and not time left alone.

Since you were on 14-day ban, your next punishment would be a perma. That was clearly stated in your 14-day reform card / email.

While looking up other instances of permabans, I'm seeing people with multiple games listed as examples of negative behavior. Why am I only getting one? Is one logged instance of negative behavior all it takes..?

You seem to be a good person at heart but get stressed out easily, you're smart by taking a break, if you aren't banned just focus on having fun! gl&hf! :D

If you have a problem with your ban you should submit a support ticket and persist politely until you get a manual review.

Posting on the boards is not the place. Even in PB&M. You seem nice enough, but we have no way of knowing if this is all of your chat logs for the ban or if you are showing just the best of it in order to mislead us. No offense, but it's possible.

Your post was well worded, friendly and approachable. Just use similar rhetoric in your support ticket and you should be able to get the help you need.
