Permabanned with no warning is that a thing?

VaPEmAsT3RFLEX··8 votes·10,769 views

I have been playing League for a bout a year-ish and most of that time I was playing in like 2 week chunks. I have never gotten chat banned (though my friend has on his account). Never have been temp banned or anything like that (though I play with friends who have) and I come to log in today after not playing for a week and I am perma-banned :( It's a bummer considering the money I foolishly spent on the game.... I never got an E-mail as the log in says I should have received but I have submitted a ticket to try and figure out whats going on. You all have seen posts like this from various people over the past few months as I have been reading them, but I assure you that I am absolutely confused and wanted some input to see if its actually possible to not get a warning then be banned :/ Everyone who has ever played the game has gotten angry for some reason or another so don't hit me with those cliches... I am looking for someone who is educated on the topic to give me a hint on how to find out exactly what I got banned for, not just a page that tells me everything I could be banned for. To be banned with no warning that I was breaking the Summoners Code, is a little ridiculous... Does anyone else think so?

Your ban is not behavior related, but is for good reason. You'll have to contact player support.

VaPEmAsT3RFLEX3 votes

Is that done by submitting a ticket?

LostFr0st3 votes

Yes.

RiotRiot Tantram7 votes

Yeah, you'll need to submit a ticket to take care of it.

Good job tell him to get a automated ticket instead of just telling him here. He clearly wants to know and youre just going to redirect him to an automated message.

Hes literally asking you why hes banned because your automated system is garbage.

Does rito send all its employees to political correctness camps so youre not allowed to assume someones gender?

The support is not 100% automated. I've had to go there a lot and gotten real messages from various people.

Ninox4 votes

To the best of my knowledge, none of the support is automated (with a few exceptions like Blitzbot that handles the free skin distribution [though I don't know if it still does] which has no interaction with any behaviour tickets), but they have a lot of tickets to get through, so if it's a question they get a lot they will often use a macro response to reduce queue times for everyone else. More often than not the macro responses do in fact answer the question, but because they are what they are they tend to leave people rather unsatisfied/feeling like support hasn't listened.

This is especially true for those who do not understand their punishments, but such is the purpose of the PB board and the arbiters. If they feel a specific behaviour should not be ban worthy then if they bring it to boards they can get a good feel for the community view of said behaviour.

Being people, support will sometimes misread or misunderstand something (especially given the diversity of people they interact with and the difficulty in conveying tone through text) but for the most part every ticket is read and understood, and if a macro response addresses the concern then that is what they will use.

Riots definition of extremely negative can just be cursing/ saying %%%. It's complete bs but eh, just move on I've gotten this kind of ban 2 times myself, the first I had full warnings but the second time was an instant perma for practically the same thing

honestly. i disagree with the sentiment that some "bad words" are worse then others. all chat related toxicity should be punished equally.

I agree with this.

The current behavior system almost trolls people into thinking stuff like "gg ez, " report x player" and the usual ripping and flaming teammates is okay, because people aren't punished quickly enough for it. Yeah, they might after so many games if they keep it up and people actually report them, but this doesn't always happen.

The last two punishments I took, I heard these three phrases and as far as I know no one was punished for them:

REPORT GREAT MUTA

ASSHAT

SUCK MY DICK

If you want to punish me fine, but when teammates are saying the same thing and nothing happens, it makes the system look like a complete joke and makes people like me think "this system is out to get me" and "They used that language and didn't get punished, so it's okay".

Dreampod6 votes

What makes you think that those players weren't punished for their misbehaviour? Just like other players who you have verbally abused don't get notifications about actions taken on your account there is no reason you would know when they get punished too.

Great Muta1 votes

What makes you think that those players weren't punished for their misbehaviour?

No notification, as simple as that. And if you are reporting people and the game is punishing them and not sending notifications, then the notification system is broken.

And if they aren't being punished? People like myself think the system doesn't care and don't see a reason to care either.

Also, do you know how many people I've reported this week? Easily 20+ people. That's a lot of punishments and the game would have no one left to play if all of them are punished.

We also have to question whether majority of players is reporting to stop a behavior or to use the reporting system as a way to get revenge. Because when I see full teams ask to report someone while calling them names, that's more of a revenge thing.

No notification, as simple as that. And if you are reporting people and the game is punishing them and not sending notifications, then the notification system is broken.

You only get the notification if it was your report alone that triggered a punishment of that player. Just because you don't get it every time you valid report someone doesn't mean that they don't get punished.

And if they aren't being punished? People like myself think the system doesn't care and don't see a reason to care either.

Sometimes people slip through the cracks (sad but true), especially if people don't bother reporting the troublemakers when they see them. Obviously if people weren't getting punished then this forum wouldn't have so many threads of people complaining about their punishments.

Also, do you know how many people I've reported this week? Easily 20+ people. That's a lot of punishments and the game would have no one left to play if all of them are punished.

People are typically only punished if they show consistently poor behavior across multiple games. I say typically because in extreme circumstances of poor behavior one game is all it could take to get punished.

We also have to question whether majority of players is reporting to stop a behavior or to use the reporting system as a way to get revenge. Because when I see full teams ask to report someone while calling them names, that's more of a revenge thing.

False reports are thrown out and the report weight of the false reporter goes down, meaning that their reports matter less. I've even seen cases of people even being punished for abusing the report system (these cases are very rare though). As for people calling for reports, since that is considered harassment all they do is just make any reports against them valid when they do that.

Because people are downvoting you.

I'm glad this was brought up.

You come around here a little bit. Have you noticed that the same 20-30 people seem to consistently be active in this forum and just happen to be extremely pro-Rito and turn most of these threads into "you deserve to be banned" verbal beatdowns?

If not, please, look through the recent threads on the new section of this forum.

They have a name and they have a goal. The name is the Rito Butt Slappers Club aka the RBSC Thought Police. The goals seem to be pretty clear:

  • Censor through downvoting - this includes any "Why was I banned?" threads and any threads suggesting that the behavior system has issues. Just look at the "hot" section here and you'll see the stuff that makes it there is only Pro-Riot.

  • Harass anyone who brings up anything showing where Riot was in the wrong

  • When those two things don't work, such as in my case, try to deflect the conversation, insult and call people conspiracy theorists.

I would suggest monitoring what happens in this forum a bit more closely. I think you could be a leader to help guide this forum to where it needs to be because this goal:

This board is all about fostering a healthy community in which discussions can revolve around player behavior systems, in-game suspensions, or boards moderation. This includes topics on how the systems work, insight into why players were punished, and advice to help players improve moving forward.

Is not being met.

You coined this term. You placed people who disagree with you in this 'group'. Every person is entitled to their own opinion, as well as you are.

If you want a different audience, you can take it to Reddit, where the consensus seems to be the same. In fact, a post form this forum made the front page last week.

No of course it doesn't outweigh the bad. I never said it did? Where did you even get that from lol.

I said that the punishment should be determined by how many think you're innocent vs how many think you're guilty. Rather than just being assumed guilty.

You're not assumed guilty, you're judged guilty for your actions. It's not based on reports, it's based on actual actions.

You're not assumed guilty, you're judged guilty for your actions. It's not based on reports, it's based on actual actions.

And who judges your actions, Riot? Riots policy used to be letting the players determine what behavior is acceptable or not. Hence the tribunal.

If their policy has changed to riot decides what behavior is acceptable, and not the community, that's also fine.

Depending on the case, Riot's automated system or the employees themselves, based on guidelines established by the community and Riot.

Fair enough then, I had not realized they changed their stance. I personally preferred the old stance where it was totally community decided. But I'm okay with this too.

Hate speech can be used as a common insult and still be hate speech.

TrulyBland5 votes

The usage of the word as an insult (especially this common) is exactly what is the problem. As an analogy: Imagine people started using "Proxvir" as an insult. And that's not just a coincidence, the use of the insult directly tracks back to people disliking you for being Proxvir. The people using it today are also mostly aware of this connection, or at the very least are perfectly aware that it's your name. They knowingly and specifically use your name to describe everything they consider bad. How would you feel about that?

I'd say that would be a pretty Proxvir situation for you to be in.

Aptest1 votes

no, it's a curse word.

A word outside of context is almost never hate speech.

By definition the word is hate speech.

Nope. It's only abusive if you're attempting to insult other people.

'What the fuck was I thinking?' is fine.

Hello Riot Tantram, I was also instantly permabanned without warning. I was not given any warnings prior about my behavior, I was reported by a toxic player. I was banned for "hate speech" I only said "%%%got" once other than that my account might have been hacked. I did not say anything wrong about homosexuals, and I'm a LGBT supporter...so it's kinda weird being banned for it... I'm sorry about my behavior and hope you lift the ban. You have to admit Riot that you have unbanned worse players than me not skill level worse, but people "ddsoing", death threats, inting, etc... I understand I'm not as famous as those people but its unfair treatment. Also "Riot Gunny" which is a bot I'm assuming is a bot... said they would lift my ban, but "was a typo" I would still appreciate an apology. If my ban is lifted I will not longer be toxic, and a reformed player of the community. Thank for reading this and understanding my situation.
