Baron Drunk (Long Winded)

It's only taken 4 years on the rift to finally trick rito into thinking I'm not bronze. Now there are many reasons it took so long (mainly the fact that I am rubbish at this game), but there was nothing more infuriating as the times my team got (what I like to call) baron drunk.

Now I would like to bore you with my story, so if you just want to vote skip.

One merry day, when I thought I could cs, I queued up as mid lane. I was against an Ekko, and had a lot of confidence as I had crushed the last two I had played against. I managed to get a kill on Ekko, but he got my tower and was pushing hard.

Sometime between the 25 and 30 minute mark Ekko's team had taken 2 mid towers, 1 top and 1 bot, while we had only managed to get 1 mid and 1 bot. We were behind on cs and kills.

We were able to win a team fight under a tower. Things were looking up so we proceeded to take baron. We killed it without opposition. What happened next still wakes me up in a sweat.

My entire team, including me, charged into their red jungle (we were on the blue team) and made contact with the enemy team. Ekko got a quadra and our last teammate also got killed. Mid lade was almost at our inhibitor turret with a big wave. We spawned in perfect sync to die 1v5 individually (bronze), and lost.

That was the day I realised that, along with my team, I had gotten baron drunk. It's the only way I can explain it. We were too intoxicated, with the recent team fight and the baron buff, to realise that they were still too far ahead. We probably could have won with a bit more patience and some strategic split pushing.

This was not the first time I had been baron drunk, and definitely not the last. The saddest part is that my example is a rare case. Most of the times I and/or my team got baron drunk when we were ahead, and proceeded to fall further behind in gold than the other team were before we secured baron.

I like to think that I have it mostly under control now. However I have seen it happen during some pro games, so I still worry about going down that dark path on the odd occasion.
