Honor System, Surrender & Punishments Not Working Well Together
DISCLAIMER: You don't have to agree with me, but I don't need you to flame me in comments if you don't. I'm just expressing my opinion and viewpoint of the current state of the game.
I've been playing this game for almost 6 years, I've been around the block. Been flamed, flamed them back. Been flamed more, just muted them. Been honored a lot, got some neat rewards... whatever, you get the point. I'm concerned because lately I'm seeing more and more players legit flaming (not just saying 'you suck,' actually being really aggressive and inappropriate), being reported, and nothing happening. At the same time EVERYTHING is now reportable. Everything gets reported, but the punishments are infrequent and inaccurate.
If you legitimately ask "ff at 15?" because your team is 0/7 and already lost two 2 towers and a fire dragon at 9 minutes you're immediately "negative" and "toxic!" Maybe you're just being realistic about your chances of winning this one, and would prefer a fresh start rather than being held hostage by a team who want to intentionally punish each other, or you just for asking the question. God forbid you ask the other team to end the game in /all chat after your team flames each other all game but refuses to FF. If Riot was that serious about you trying to win no matter what, there wouldn't be a surrender option. At the same time if you AFK for 9 minutes while you go make coffee, put your team behind, and then call them "negative and toxic" for wanting to FF... you don't get a punishment for AFKing intentionally. That's being positive and playing by the summoner's code!
Secondly, nobody is honoring you for having a positive attitude - you're only getting honored if you carry the game, if anyone even gets honored at all. Sorry Riot, I have never seen anyone say "You were really fun to play with" in chat and then honor somebody for that reason. You get honored for KDA and winning. The problem with this is that you only increase honor by playing well, regardless of how toxic you may be.
Stay positive all game, try to keep the team's spirits up after a bad play, but finish the game 5/6/8? No honor for you. Carry harder. Act like a total cocky pos, typical toxic assassin player, but happen to go 14-5-8 on Zed? HONOR! Thanks for carrying us!
The punishment system... I'm not loving it lately. The chat scanner is just lazy and the truly toxic players (not just a bg or negative attitude) never actually get banned out of the game. 1 "red flag word" outweighs an entire game worth of flaming as long as they don't say a trigger word. I also think it's HYSTERICAL that Riot only gives people their own chats, not the whole transcript. Lack of context is always the best way to interpret and judge things. Then people come to the forums for validation or support because they feel like they were victimized twice, first by another player and then by Riot, and now they're victimized a third time because the community only sees the 1 or 2 times they said something negative - not the unending torrent of harassing chats and pings they had to endure before they muted their whole team and got reported by a pre-made group anyway. Post screenshots to help your case? That's not allowed! That is basically a police state - only Riot can present (one-sided) evidence, they decide if you're guilty or not, and if you try to defend yourself or provide mitigating evidence the community turns against you. The only way to play the game is just to mute the entire team when you load in... which will probably get you reported haha. But just like in a losing game where your team hold you hostage to punish another player, you can't bring yourself to uninstall (even though you've been told to do so several times this week in game chat) because in the last few years you've sunk $450 into game content. Bring back the tribunal and let the COMMUNITY have control of making judgements on who get punishments!
