Verbal Harassment, Trolls, and Reporting.

After playing League of Legends for about 2 years now I can say I am still not impressed with Riots system of "Correcting" players. The way I see it there are 3 types of players: the ones that actually try, the trolls, the verbal harassers. The players that actually try to play this game are constantly put into matches with these trolls and verbal harassers and it's quite annoying if you ask me. So what's Riots way of fixing this? You get to report players for the bad things they do. Now this is a great way of dealing with in game issues but I feel like the system is skewed more towards Verbal harassment over actual game play. So I'm going to post a few statements and some questions and let you (the community) discuss this issue.

  1. League has a chat filter. Q. Why have a chat filter if you aren't allowed to cuss anyway? Q2. If people don't like cussing then why don't they turn ON the chat filter?
  2. Players that consistently cuss are punished more than players that consistently and/or intentionally feed or troll in game. Q. Why is cussing more punishable than ruining a game for everyone else? Q2. Should players be punished more for cussing then intentionally trolling in-game?

Guys this is a game on the internet. People are going to cuss no matter which game you play. I have had friends that are perfectly good players get banned because they decided to say "F*** yeah!" in all chat after they get a kill only to be reported for offensive language. It doesn't take very many of those to get banned from the game for a while. We have a chat filter for a reason guys. Now I understand that some players just join games in order to cuss everyone out and blame everyone else for their mistakes. These are the people that should be punished and banned from the game because they are poor sports. But lets say someone is constantly feeding on your team and you get fed up with it and decide to call him "an arrogant two faced son of a yatta yatta blah blah" (you get the point) is completely reasonable. I have had countless matches where these trolls enter and just derp around all game and just report everyone at the end for yelling at them. Whats more is these players hardly ever even receive any punishment. You can face consequences pretty fast for cussing but if you troll for 10 games in a row nothing happens. I know this is true because I know lvl 30 players that just play to "have fun" and run around doing dumb **** all game. Yet when they finally decide to tell someone to f*** off.......that's when they get banned...not for bad game play.

I would also like to point out that from my experience players generally will report a player more for cussing than for bad game play. This applies to the enemy team specifically.

Scenario 1: Player 1 decided to feed the enemy team all game but gets away with not being reported because he got a couple kills in. This is literally the most annoying thing that can happen to a player in game. I constantly see players feed the enemy team because they are mad at the team comp or that they are losing. Whats more.... the enemy team isn't going to report an enemy player for feeding most of the time. Why you ask? because an enemy that feeds is helping your team. If team blue is feeding team red then team red is going to be very happy.

Scenario 2: Player 1 decides to cuss out a derppy troll on his team for being a troll thats derping around. Now there are usually two ways this can go.

  1. Your team agrees with you and reports him for being a troll or...
  2. Your whole team picks the trolls side and decides to report you for speaking truth to this lousy player that cant do anything. Whats more is that player usually says something in all chat like "great. player 1 is cussing me out for a few bad plays. Can you report him plz?" which convinces the enemy team to report you who is doing nothing wrong.

So what do I propose we do about this situation?

  1. I don't think the enemy team should be allowed to report a player from the opposing team for cussing unless it appears in all chat. As it is now the whole enemy team can report a player for cussing when it actually didn't happen just because they are mad at him.

  2. Only players with the chat filter turned on should be able to report a player for bad language. Okay first off you have the ability to turn the chat filter on. Now if the chat filter is on then you should be able to report a player for cussing because you can (most of the time) still tell what they are saying in the Morse code translating process that goes on when we see the four stars (****) pop up in the chat bar. If the chat filter is off then you obviously want to be a part of the trash talk that makes games so fun. So if you want to be a part of it then you don't deserve the right to report other players for doing the same thing. That would be hypocritical. Is this not a reasonable request?

**3. **players should be able to send reports in game while the player is committing the act. I think this would be a great idea. Imagine if there is a player feeding and just turret diving to death every 3 min. Simply press TAB and select the report icon next to their name. Now let me explain the function of this icon -The icon is not to write a physical report

  • The icon is solely for alerting Riot that this player is doing something wrong
  • Each player is able to send 2 reports against each player in the game per game.
  • Once that player receives 6 total reports against him from any combination of players Rito can review them and judge whether or not they are legitimate reports and proceed to act from there. -How does this benefit? Okay so if Player 1 is being stupid and the whole team cusses him out then he Player 1 deserves it. and if Player 1 decides to click the report icon 2 times on PLayers 2-5 for trash talking him then it wont matter because those players need 6 each to be reviewed by rito. Furthermore this will encourage people to play better because they have that fear of being reported. Even if they get reported for stupid reasons Rito still reviews it anyways so illegitimate reports don't work. I understand that the current system does this but it should be more appealing to play better if you know that players can report you while still in the game. People aren't threatened now because everyone instantly leaves after the match is over. Why? because the game is over and they no longer hold any interest in what a player did because chances are you won't play them again.

To sum this whole thing up I believe that people who want to cuss should be able to talk that way to players that also enjoy that. If Rito is really that pissed off about players that cuss then why not just have 2 lobby's. One for cussing and one for the 10 year olds. Secondly players that don't deserve to be reported shouldn't be able to be reported "just because". Thirdly people that derp around and decide to be trolls should be punished equally (if not more) than players that bad mouth the other players. Lastly the bold number 3......thats a great idea. Seriously this would be way more fair than the current report system while encouraging players to behave even more than usual.

Alright guys now that I got that out of my system feel free to comment and give me and Riot your opinions.
