The Community's Attitude and Personality

So lately I've been running into so many negative people while playing. Even today! I've tried to keep this to myself and just report people but it's getting ridiculous. I went 2/4 and I was getting yelled at and harassed. League needs a better community, and the only way for that to happen is for Riot to actually do something about these people. Punish them please, I cannot count the number of times I've been told to kill myself or just been harassed. I can assure you that many other people can agree with me that this is becoming out of hand. Please if you agree spread the word about this post, give it a 1 up and comment. Riot needs to hear us, the community, speak up on what NEEDS to change.

I think that punishing players for negativity isn't sufficient because it puts all the attention on negativity. There needs to be clear and accessible rewards for being positive (not just ribbons for excessively positive players). All social interactions are learned behaviors and in this case a lot of the negativity has to do with the emotional stress players feel at needing to prove themselves early in the season. You can expect that a lot of negativity will continue in the early part of the season (and players will get punished for it). If it is too much for you, you can always take a break from serious play. Preseason was only nicer to you because there was much less at stake for the players playing.

What this means is that many of the negative players just weren't expressing their negativity because they weren't emotionally charged enough to do so. They were always potentially toxic and didn't learn to behave constructively. So you can see that just punishing negative behavior in some ways just results in toxic players hiding their frustrations until they can no longer stand the increased stress. That is why clear models of good behavior and clear rewards for positive behavior and guidelines to emotional stability are important in order to have true reform.

While not always true, most cases ppl get toxic over teammates' mistakes because teammates make their lives harder when these ppl want to enjoy easy stomping game instead of suffering misery. If the game is less snowbally - like you still have as much potential to kill a 3-0 opponent ahead of you as you would if your opponent is 0-0, or you have the potential to 1v5 if played right even if your teammates die randomly, ppl might care less about mistakes made.

But who am I kidding this is a balanced team game. No op champ can 1v5 assuming not ahead, and mistakes made are punished for.
