Disregarding the rest of the insults and negativity, things like these three comments ALWAYS escalate punishment.

Someone shit talked you, big deal. You should know better. "Fgt" is a big no-no for Riot.

They probably banned you for grammar. I would have.

.....meh....people get away with a lot worse. Looks like you didn't type outside of the IFS algorithm or you got a manual review.

Meh. Call someone an idiot, nothing happens.

Call someone heterosexual, nobody cares.

But call them a word that literally means "homosexual male", yet for whatever reason is looked at as "offensive" and we're all throwing down the banhammer.

Pretty annoying.

The word literally means "bundle of sticks." Its use to refer to a human appeared in the 1910's purely as a pejorative. So there's really no acceptable way to use the word to talk about another person.

But considering the original poster used "fgt", I can only give you partial credit on this one.

Ooo, I'm a bundle of sticks, so offensive! Pretty sure people take a lot more offense to their skill level being questioned.

{quoted}Ooo, I'm a bundle of sticks, so offensive! Pretty sure people take a lot more offense to their skill level being questioned.

No one actually believes that he's using the term to mean a bundle of sticks. Context is important, and even the "appropriate" use of the word has been effectively entirely phased out in Western culture due to the inappropriateness of the colloquial usage.

Seriously -- when was the last time you saw ANY recently-published article or novel refer to a bundle of sticks in that way? And when was the last time that someone called someone else that word, and their first thought was "I'm sure he's just intending to call me a bundle of sticks, and didn't pick this word for its offensive, pejorative context. What a silly devil. He should pick his words more carefully so no one gets confused."

Finally, since "bundle of sticks" is a ridiculous nonsense insult, pretty much the only reason to call someone THAT is to attempt to circumvent censors and make them think of the word and its related pejorative usage.

And as for abbreviating it? We all know what he means, and these other uses of that abbreviation would make NO sense.

Good try though.

I, uh, really don't care if society wants to apply their own perception of "offensiveness" or whatnot to a word with a very literal meaning that strikes me as more of a joke than insult.

Maybe I'm just smarter than you and don't feel the need to type out a bunch of irrelevant nonsense for the sake of feeling I've proven a point to someone.

And I'm not saying you have to. Just be aware that most people disagree with you, and that if you choose to use said word in League you will face punishment for doing so.

As for the intelligence comment? Not sure what you're intended to achieve with that, but I don't really care either way. I'm comfortable with myself, and I hope you are as well. Unless we meet head-to-head on Jeopardy or something, I'm content to leave it at that.

Cheers! <3

Yeah, if someone wanted to question my sexuality, in my mind my response would be:

But I recognize their intent is to try to insult or harm me in some shape or form and respond like:

Hm, don't understand why some images show up and some don't, but that'll just have to do.

Seems reasonable. That said, the usage of that word is basically always to intend harm (again -- no one really means "bundle of sticks" these days). I agree that people should realize that and not let it bother them.

I just disagree with your assessment that that makes it okay to use as if it was the same as any other word, since for many people that one specifically DOES carry stronger, more negative connotations. Just because it's ideal if people are not hurt by words doesn't mean we should make those words intended to carry the biggest offense into acceptable common parlance.

Then again, I'd rather players not insult each other at ALL, since it seems pointless and unnecessary to belittle your fellow players.
