Actually that's true.
Having played since Season 1 I never heard anyone say "open mid" until recently.... I'm really glad it exists for when matches are so ridiculously one sided that people would rather start a new one. It is very refreshing in my opinion.
It was happening in late Season 5. I think someone in Korea started but could be wrong. Basically if someone has a troll or the game is over in some other way, it's a method to "bypass" surrender if it's being blocked by two players and let the enemy team just rush mid for a quick win.
