Exact quote of game loading "Tip" -- "If someone makes you feel uncomfortable in game, report them"

DumberThoughts·10/24/2018, 7:49:10 PM·65 votes·16,280 views

Anyone else think this is a bit ridiculous? It sets an extremely low bar for people to report their allies, encouraging people to report teammates for literally anything at all.

It sows seeds of suspicion and distrust among people who are supposed to be working together. It gives people a legitimate reason to be afraid to communicate anything in game. I think the "Tip" itself is far more toxic than most of the comments I've seen people make in game.

How are other players supposed to predict what might make me "feel uncomfortable in game"?

What do the rest of you think?

I didn't really like that tip either, but I think it can be more accurately interpreted as "Don't think too hard on if an action is punishable or not. If it is causing you problems in the game you can report it, and that will help us determine if a player is being negative frequently enough to warrant a punishment, or if the community largely believes a certain behavior should be punishable."

Don't be a dick

you should report for anything that bothers you. either the person's behavior is bothersome to enough people that it's hurting the game, or it's not and the report will have done nothing.

thinking "well, his behavior sucked, but I don't know if it's worth a report" is just accepting that shitty behavior is part of the game, when it doesn't have to be.

Just report people whose behavior bothers you. If they've done nothing wrong it'll get overlooked, if they're consistently an asshole then you're helping create a paper trail.

The report system is automated, you aren't even wasting time in filing one.

This post makes me feel uncomfortable.

I've been wrong all along... I should have reported half of the ppl I met.

So if I'm laning against a good yasuo I should report him?

Tenth Leper10/24/2018, 9:10:01 PM4 votes

I have no problem with the tip. It helps people know that things don't have to be blatantly horrid to be reportable and that there is no punishment for reporting even if you misunderstood someone's actions.

Reporting doesn't harm reported players anyway if they are "innocent" while not reporting "guilty" players contributes to the number of games they keep bothering bystanders.

IMO most the time the people spewing "please report x" in all chat is more toxic to the game than the people doing minor things (like unconventional builds, dying a little more than they should, not grouping) i lose more games to the people witch hunting to report because they spend more time typing about a player than to the actual players doing weird stuff or doing bad.

The games were my allys do off meta stuff or do bad but NO ONE talks, i win more than lose with those.

Imo i think if you type the word "report" in game you should get your chat muted for like 5 minutes in that match

I've actually been punished for this via chat ban. As in i made someone uncomfortable for simply complaining about how i wasn't having fun. Literally.

I wasn't insulting, wasn't calling names or pointing fingers or raging. I was just like "I really don't want to play this. Oh look, i got 3k damage in 0.8 seconds...fun."

I know it's not exactly encouraging to read that but to get a chat restrict for THAT?? The fuck?

I think Riot should just warn the person first, instead of setting back their honor level by ~3 months if all goes well.

This game, especially ranked, is not about winning. It's about trying to go positive, AND IF YOU DO FEED, the rest of the game is spent on seeing who on your team you can report to make yourself feel better instead of taking responsibility that you suck and inted. This is Riot's liberal philosophy that they have instilled in these offended liberal kids.

AXayahAccount10/25/2018, 2:38:28 AM2 votes

Yeah it is a very dumb tip. When I read it I was like "What?" funny part is there is a flame one and it doesn't say report anyone. says mute them.

It's even toxic by Riot's own definition, since they consider telling someone you're going to report them or calling for someone to report someone with the intent of getting them punished is harassment.

"Remember, there's nothing better than having an insult war with someone you like, but if someone you don't know talks to you in a way that makes you feel uncomfortable, that's no good!"

SuffocateMeDaddy10/25/2018, 2:02:20 PM2 votes

Riot is already enforcing SJW bullshit, it only gets worse. Id get used to it if you plan on playing this game.

Love2kill210/28/2018, 3:34:25 PM2 votes

i report everyone when i lose, makes it easy.

ChiefDays11/15/2018, 5:37:13 PM1 votes

Meanwhile people get chat restricted for telling people to report a troller. Such irony.

this game i guess is meant for all the "Snowflakes" out there that think cause someone tells them they are not special and not the best that its grounds to have them hung, shot, quartered, tarred and feathered..

i was just in a game with a lulu top and a teemo jungle.. i made a comment stating that our team comp was shit compared t the other teams and cause they play n off meta they go off the deep end calling for me to be reported.. i laughed at them and played the game out.. i dont bother tryin to dumb it down to some of the kids that play this game... its not worth it..

Total Eclipse10/26/2018, 3:57:24 AM1 votes

Uhhh Idk I think its an alright tip.... Ppl never get banned for making others uncomfortable tho............ Real talk...

NaturesMayhem10/25/2018, 3:20:41 AM1 votes

Yep. This is the reason I don't say anything in game most of the time. Unless I get one of those bizarre games where everyone is chatty and nice, I just don't bother. It's not worth it. I don't need to deal with getting reported because somebody didn't like my performance and so they reported me because I might have been a bit negative as a result. I feel threatened as a player, constantly concerned I might say something that upsets someone and it triggers the wrong flag, getting me banned or muted. And I think it's ridiculous, I shouldn't have to be some ray of sunshine to chat. I should be able to say a game is over, defend myself from harassers, discuss the possibility of why we're losing, etc., without getting muted. I hate how Riot is trying to turn this game into some form of safe space. Let me vent, my team can mute me, let me defend myself, I'm being harassed and it hurts, let me speak my opinion as long as I'm not being some racist bigot. Why must I appeal to every person I meet, out of fear that they will get upset and report me? No other game does this. As long as I'm not being some racist piece of shit, I don't have to worry about getting in trouble. Now I have to censor myself on the off chance I upset someone or Riot doesn't like my word choice. Even saying "shit", on Riot's boards makes me nervous, where nowhere else would I be afraid of cursing.

This company seeks to censor and silence and it's frustrating.
