Getting Kicked from Lobby for Not Locking in

I've just come back to playing League of Legends after almost a year of not playing consistently, there are a ton of new changes that I still need to get used to. The biggest change that I dislike, is having to lock in my champion. If I don't lock in, I get kicked from lobby, and get slapped with a 15 minute wait time. I don't feel this is fair to do, what if I want to change my champion at the last moment because I think of a better pick, or something else similar? If I really wanted to dodge a lobby, I wouldn't pick a champion at all, or I would close the client. There are other people who agree on the matter in the boards, I think this topic having better exposure would be nice. The way it was before, I could just click a champion, and let that be that. Perhaps I don't understand the reason for the change, if someone could explain it, that'd be great, otherwise, I don't see the point in the change. Please consider changing this Riot, I dislike being punished for making a simple mistake.

It was implemented in order to speed up the champ select process. Now that if you don't lock in you are forced to dodge most people are locking in much earlier in their countdown rather than just waiting it out. There is still plenty of time to change your champ if you think of a better counter or a more useful pick but by removing the option of just waiting out the clock the time spent in champ select has been significantly reduced.

There used to be a time people complained about that, but they got used to it and started locking in earlier.

Just adapt to it.

I agree kind of but I mean why wait until the literal last 2 seconds. Plus I think they want to bring que times down by making it harder to do things like hovering teemo jungle and then switching to hecarim at last second.
