0/0/1. Assist in issuing penalty to an unsportsmanlike player. Riot get's first blood in new account

Yesterday I made a new account to play League of Legends. After hitting level 3, my third game in Norms (blind), I found two players that fought each other in chat. It got nasty to the point where they were making sexual remarks to the other person's mom and used generally rude words to each other. Although this toxicity wasn't directed to me (until I told them that they should stop), I reported them after the game. I also took the time to write what they exactly did and why they deserved the report. Since most of the people except those two, left the lobby after the game immediately, I was pretty sure I was the only person who reported them. Maybe someone else did as well, I don't know. For me it was 1 single report in that new account.

The next day I got back on, an instant feedback report popped up saying I got an assist in issuing a penalty to an unsportsmanlike player. I just stared at it for a good minute and decided to write this here. I know people are sometimes frustrated? that they only see the instant feedback pop up and don't see who actually got punished. But in my situation I knew exactly who got punished and it gave me the feeling that Riot is such a great company- not perfect of course, but one that gently insists on perfection. Thank you Riot. Thank you so much.

Love to hear these kinds of stories. Not too often do you hear accounts of the system working as intended, but that goes with any product or system that is working as it should.

Thanks for sharing! Remember, 1 report still flags the account for review even if you're the only one to report them.

These anecdotes mean little to me over the years of not seeing people banned for the most atrocious racism, bigotry, spamming, and trolling.

How do I know they never got banned? I added them to a list of names and I checked on their match histories daily.

The system is broken; thank GOD Lyte is gone, that massive pretentious failure. "You're not educated enough to extrapolate anything from the data so we're not going to even hint at it, but here's some stats that no one believes because I refuse to show my work."

While I typically frown upon permabanning people over trivialities such as text on the screen that they 100% have control over at any time of their choosing (personal responsibility?! GASP!!!) I do believe these are worth permas:

Intentionally feed more than one game a month? Permaban. It's obvious it's not a fluke. Racism? Permaban. There's no fucking excuse for this. Bigotry? Permaban. There's no fucking excuse for this.

I don't want to hear any more of this "I've been trolling like this for years and Riot does nothing." (we've all heard this from trolls because it's true more often than it's not and that's not a coincidence that we've ALL heard this)

I file a report at the end of every single game. literally every single one, whther its an afk or some shit talking biggot or just a dumb kid on the internet, always. These messages mean nothing. yeah that one got reported, but trust me more will come. Because riot themselves say they cant keep up, and because this kinda game is a breeding ground for toicity in every single form.

Sorry to be that way but you're only level 3 and you thought that was bad? Trust it ONLY gets worse from there. Better keep those report notes quick and simple. at this point i just use one word to ddescribe each offense. Plus theres people that just have all the time and money in the world to make account after account andforever plague players games, as well as those that know how to skirt the rules like getting all your toxic comments out in pregame chat then saying nothing in game. Riot only looks at in game intel so they'll get off scott free. They can even lock a troll pick and force either a dodge or just "try" to make taric top with cleanse/tp work and when they go 1/12 it's "well they didnt int feed so it's no problem, they tried."

Until the reform system is at a place where we know who, what, how, and why reports were issued, as well as having a system that can scan more than just chat logs in game and a scoreboard of stats to see what's bad, I don't think there's any cause for celebration.

The system does work.

I regularly get instant feedback reports.

I think this season it's been around oh... between 20 and 30 popups?

#never let it be said that the IFS does not work; it DOES INDEED punish players.

I feel like you're all making valid points, but I felt like adding my two cents.

The main point i believe is that the "inting" claim is so frequent that its actually disgusting. I've played since s3, so I'd like to think I understand a thing or two about how the game works. You've got 5 people who, often times, have never met. One person makes one mistake, and everyone jumps on the "hate that person" bandwagon. Maybe that person isnt good at their champion/role. Maybe they're trying a new rune/mastery page. I've had scenarios where someone got incredibly fed, but raged in allchat saying they were going to int, but never did.

What I'm trying to say in a really roundabout way, is its nearly impossible to tell if someone dying over and over is INTENTIONAL. I've had my fair share of games where I've done absolutely horribly, and been accused of inting. The main thing being people use the term as a way to assume something for someone doing poorly. This game has a mental aspect to it that a lot of people don't seem to understand. The way the Rift snowballs nowadays, comebacks in lane are very difficult, and there's only so much your poor Wukong top can do if the enemy Riven has a handful of kills and a ton of cs. But if that same Wukong continues to die, it's instantly a witch hunt.

I think people need to be a hell of a lot more decisive about what they consider to be intentional. And no. You can never be sure, because you can never know what the person behind that champion is thinking. That's the difficulty that Riot goes through daily. I have nothing but respect for those that deal with this aspect of the game and feel like they are doing the best they can with the tools they have

The only reason that they were punished was that they continued that behavior 2 games in a row straight.. that's the ONLY reason the lazy system works. I wish more people had stories about the system actually working like yours tho..

it pisses me off how lazy riot can be on the punishment system these days,

Honestly though, I had one day of REALLY good games last week and STILL, every. single. game. had at least one inter, troll, or AFK. I checked some of the worst out on op.gg and surprise surprise! They're still playing and still inting.

I had something like that, terribly toxic players all insulting me in the chat, actually made me think climbing in ranked wasn't worth the bullshit.

Got on next day and had an instant feedback report, made my morning.

Thank god i now know the report systems work. i never knew you had such a heart wrenching story. to this i say to you....good job you league-abiding summoner

I'm not saying the report system doesn't work well, but I only report in rare circumstances, when someone is flaming or not working with the team at all to the point of actively causing us to lose. Even then, I've never gotten an instant feedback. I report maybe 1/50 games, if even that, and only on extreme cases of 'how is this guy not banned yet, he just trolled and flamed all game' and never got a feedback from it.
