AFK in Ranked, Punishment and Suggestions.
It was finally time. I was 99 lp, ready to climb out of Bronze, when suddenly, the Garen quits after dying 2 times to Darius. "Ahahaha, you expected a win?" says Riot, a glint in their eye. "I think not, peasant. You will never leave this hellhole while I am around!" For the next 20 games I had someone afk, and got demoted to Iron 4 just out of spite. "Where did I go wrong!? What did I do to deserve this?!" I wailed, helplessy flailing in the ocean of elo hell. Then I cried myself to sleep, losing all hope, while my heart finally stopped beating. The end.
No, but in all seriousness, when people afk it really does suck. But I can't seem to be rid of them. I'd say 30% of my games are made up by afkers. You can report them, sure, but that doesn't help the lp loss that could/might have been avoided otherwise. And Riot has been cracking down on them in recent years, I'll give them that. But is it really enough? I would like to know, what is done about afkers, and what can be done about them. I feel like, in ranked specifically, it presents a huge problem. I understand losing lp when you don't play your best and lose the game. But can you really combat an afk? So I deserve to lose lp because Vayne fed the Akali 17 kills and decided to leave before the 15 minute mark? I feel like we need new ways to deal with afk in ranked, maybe halving the lp we lose, or scratching the loss all together. Remakes have been a great implementation, but that doesn't help me when we lose 2 people to leaving before I can even surrender.
I am not really sure what can be done about this, and I don't have any particular person to report, it just really seems to be an issue as a whole. Are there any possible solutions people can think of, to either punish them severely, or to at least alleviate the loss for those experiencing it. It is a slippery slop as a system implemented could be abused. Gonna lose? AFK before you do and half the loss! I am not really sure how to combat that, but I would really like to hear peoples experience with AFKers, and what could be done to at least, make it not so bad?
