Question about "Breaking the Rules"

Hi everyone, I was in a game of normals today and I wanted to try something new. Well, it isnt exactly new cause of a streamer or two, but I wanted to go bottom lane Rengar. I clearly told my team that I was infact, not support, and going bottom Rengar. The Vayne in my lane complained the whole time, asked everyone to report me, etc. I was wondering about the rules in general and using this situation. Trying "new meta" things is obviously going to make some people mad. but if you clearly tell your team, try it in normals, and keep a positive attitude. Can they report you for "trying something new"? Thanks for any input!

you need to play teambuilder if you're going to trollpick, don't pull that shit in draft or blind.

why do i have to use team builder? and how is it "Pull that shit". It is trying new meta picks, if you played league for any amount of time, you will see new things get discovered by TRYING them out. It was in normals, i do not think team builder so be the resort for these "trollpicks" even though i wasnt trolling.

rengar support does not work

you didn't even have a sightstone that game, or upgrade your trinket despite being at full build

you also had highest cs on your team

against a competent enemy team, pulling that shit as a support will lose far, far more games than it will win

basically if you want to go completely off-meta, you should find 4 friends and play 5s with your idea, instead of subjecting random people to your nonsense, then complaining on the forums that your adc didn't like that you had an illogical champ for a role they are not suited for.

where did i say i was support though? i never did. i called my position first. and they lock in. that is not my fault.

in what universe was Lulu top/mid, what universe was Annie support. These were off meta things that people tried out and stuck. I was seeing if bottom rengar was worth it. Clearly we won. I farmed well. so i will try it again. You are being very hostile for me just asking a simple question of "will the report hold up" rather than "will i get reported"

OP, you did fine. As long as you told them before you picked, but yea, team builder IS there for that kind of thing.

Well... he builds Attack Damage, and can definitely carry. Sounds like a possible Attack Damage Carry to me.

Of course, melee botlane carries do tend to be problematic, due to the prevalence of significant ranged poke in that lane - that's why they're not meta.

Have to? Not necessarily. But it's certainly easier on your team, because you know ahead of time that everyone's on board with it.

It's not against the rules to do off meta things with the intent to win. However, if your team is against it, it's best to wait until you find a team who is up for trying it.

i feel you, called "adc" in chat. told them. and we won. but the vayne was like "im still reporting you" even though she threw the tantrum and was verbally abusing.

This is the close-minded thinking of the community I'm afraid. If the "pros" and streamers are not doing it, then its just bad and can never be effective. I don't see the problem of breaking the meta. In a lot of situations, its BETTER to break the meta so you and your team has a higher chance of winning. I get the meta, how its just all the buffed champs of the patch, I get it. But just because something is buffed does not mean that other things are useless. I wish people in this game would open their minds a little and try new things. And besides, its normals and also A GAME. Its meant to be fun lol.
