Thoughts on smurfing?

Idk i was just wondering what people thought about smurfing in the community? Idk how placements work but if someone was plat and then they intentionally place in a bracket below what they know to be their current, that just seems like they're intentionally not winning (which seems toxic in itself) and then they also go into games knowing they're significantly better than the people they play against (which also seems rather toxic) and lowers the quality of the games for the opposing team.

You described something specific that is not "smurfing". This rather spoils discussion from the outset.

Smurfing is having a designated secondary account that's lower than your first account is it not?

That is certainly one definition of it.

People have alt accounts for different reasons:

Have a try-hard account (for the climb)
Have a 1-trick account (for the accomplishment)
Have a practice account (cos when you try out a new champ, you don't want to loose your ranked MMR)
Have an account to play ranked with friends (for the hand holders)
For the feeling of fast leveling of success (for a tool to get out of the try-hard tilt)
Pub stomp others (for those that want to feel superior to others)

There are probably a few other reasons, but for the listed reasons why people have smurfs / alt, the pub stomp reason is one that Riot doesn't agree with. The others, Riot need to find ways to fulfill that need.
