Auto-punishment system is getting out of hand

*Note: This post is part rant, but there's also a point/concern about the in-game system I'd like bring up, so please give it a read if you're interested.

Hey guys, just got a 14-day ban that I think is undeserved, so thought I should post it here along with the "chatlog proof" Riot sent to justify the punishment to see if you all agree with it, and while we're on the subject also talk about the state of the current auto-punishment system.

TL;DR: I was having a really bad ranked game, teammates flamed me, I flamed back with relatively minor insults and muted them promptly, yet still got a 14-day ban which was way too severe IMO for the "offense" I had while they're probably still fine and dandy and ready to flame more people in game.

Just a little context: I was in middle of a 25 game chat restriction before this ban happened, and even before that I rarely went out of my way to flame people. I just don't like taking flaming from other people silently, especially when they don't even have a "justified" reason. I was playing like trash and feeding because I'm on tilt? Feel free to tell me I'm bad, I'll just mute you. I'm getting camped by multiple lanes and drawing pressure but none of my team uses that chance to either get advantages elsewhere or come to help me and you call me bad? You bet I'll call you out on being a jackass and flame back, but not excessively and will just mute you after to prevent further escalation.

After getting the chat restrictions I already tried to cut that back even further, then this game happened. My jungler fed enemy lane bully mid a completely unnecessary kill with doublebuffs level 2 due to greed, which already tilted me since I was playing a weak laner, but I took it as it is and just continued to play. After a few extremely bad trades/enemy jungler camping that resulted in further snowballing (which were fundamentally my fault) I was just completely destroyed, so I asked my jungler for help and to camp my lane.

Of course, he didn't come to my call for help, which is ok because he probably had other objectives in mind. But at some point when I was 1-4 and enemy was 5-1 from all the snowballing, he began to flame me and tell me to never call to play mid again. All the frustration I had up to this point that stemmed from his initial mistake just exploded, and I typed the two insults as highlighted in the screenshot. Those were literally all I said towards him for the whole game and just muted him right after. My team as a whole began to struggle as a result of the enemy mid and junglers' snowballing, so they decided to pin-point the blame me to the point that I had to mute all except one player who hadn't said anything negative towards me.

This whole game just felt like a bully experience where the whole team ganged up on me for having a bad game, but ultimately I was the one who got punished despite being one of the least toxic players on my team and trying my best to win.

Next, the auto-punishment system. For a while now I've been feeling like the system doesn't work on the basis of punishing people for the amount or severity of flaming they've done in a game, but rather uses the amount of reports a person got. I could probably just type a single "fuck" for the whole game and get punished if 4 of my teammates just don't like me for whatever reasons and report me for the sake of it to get my banned, while others who wish death or disease upon me and flame all game can roam freely if I'm the only one to report them. I don't see how Riot can just leave this system as is, especially for it to moderate the ranked game mode. I play solo more than 90% of the times in ranked, so that just puts me in an extremely disadvantageous position where other duos/trios/quads have the power to vent their own frustration on me at the end of game and group-report me to have me punished despite them being the real flamers.

I could go on and write an essay about this flawed design but I think I've expressed the gist of it along with my concern. I really hesitated before making this post because I've read other player concerns on this forum before and they just don't seem to get attention from Riot, but I think this system if left without changes really hurts the "competitive integrity" Riot emphasized so much. Why can't they bring back the old tribunal where everyone's chat log is displayed so a more fair judgment can be made by the player base? I really don't agree with this gameplay philosophy of "rather punishing a hundred innocents than letting one wrong-doer get away". What do you guys think?

Holy crap that was toxic, you 100% deserve this.

Basically, all flaming is disallowed. It doesn't matter if you were flaming less than you flamed 20 games ago. You're not supposed to flame at all. Understand?

"Wow, fuckface you're so bad" is insulting. It doesn't belong in the game. People don't play video games to get insulted by their teammates.

If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all. It doesn't matter if you disagree with that. It doesn't matter why you flame anyone. The rule Riot made is to not flame, and when you break that rule you're going to get punished.

The punishment system is escalating. This is your last warning; if you continue to flame people, you're going to get a permanent ban. This is your chance to keep your account. Stop insulting people and being negative. Mute people and move on if they're toxic. If you can't do it now, Riot will not give you your account back next time.

The punishment you receive is largely based on how many times you have been punished before.

  1. 10 game chat restriction
  2. 25 game chat restriction
  3. 14 day ban
  4. Permanent ban.

If you get punished within 3 months(how long it takes to go down a tier) it is going to be a permanent ban, no matter how minor the infraction. Severity is only 1 factor. The system is also considering frequency and recidivism.

There is no such thing as a justified reason for being toxic in league. It doesn't matter if someone else "started it" or was worse. It only matters if what you said was considered acceptable.

The system is based on the frequency and severity of your behavior. The only thing reporting does is trigger review of behavior, it is what that review finds that gets you punished.

I have 0 doubt this case would have been punished by the tribunal, no matter what anyone else was saying.

Yea, even if you censor it, the system can tell you are trying to be an asshole. Doesn't matter if your teammates were bad, you only made things worse.

rarely going out to flame others won't get you banned. though constantly doing so will.

your lies are not going reach us.

** "Auto-punishment system is getting out of hand" **

Looks like it's working just fine to me.

Unrelated my smurf just got banned for toxicity so i'm going to complain on forums saying it wasn't my fault.

Honestly; You're not helping the cause by failing to reform. I'm not saying I disagree with you, but you've to follow the rules. There is a reason its called toxicity. It transfers from one player to the next. They know its prevalent flaw in the community. They're not stupid. Just their implication of bm mechanics are. I wouldn't allow my account to get banned. I value it, and for whatever reason... You don't seem to. Reform. Return, and then complain. with a logical and feasible way for them to implement proper mechanics to prevent reports from needing to occur.
