Banning hovered champs.

It can be annoying when your teammates ban your hovered pick in champ select. I have heard all sorts of solutions to this problem including making it a reportable offense or just straight up not possible. These 'solutions' don't sit right with me though, and seem to limit and impede your teammates in just the same way you might feel limited when your champ is banned. Say if your last pick wants to play lulu and nobody will pick it for her, probably safer to ban lulu out than risk their bot lane stomping.

My solution is a little simpler: Allow summoners to dodge champ selects in which a TEAMMATE has banned their intended pick. This would mean no LP losses or dodge timers.

I think it'll keep both parties happy, but obviously there's a risk of duo's abusing the system or other similar issues. Thoughts?

It#s not a bad thing. If my last pick hovers something very contested and I don't want the enemy to simply pick it before us, I will ban that champion and not feel bad about it. Tough luck.

As long as hovering is not a requirement or until it actually becomes meaningful it's nothing more than a minor inconvenience. Banning things from your team because you don't like them is dumb however.

Chances are if you're a late pick in the draft, and the champion you are hovering is popular/contested a lot, a teammate will ban your pick to deny the enemy.

My only advice is to broaden your champion pool or not actually hover your intent and hope that the enemy doesn't pick or ban it first. You could also ask first pick if they're willing to trade with you.

Dodging is not really a behavior that is endorsed by Riot as it adds to the time to get into the game. So I don't really see something like this being implemented, sorry.

The prevalent opinion of the community seems to be that the value of banning contested picks outweighs the value of preventing trolls. I don't personally agree with that assessment, but there it is.

I really do like the idea of a free dodge, though. If my heart is set on playing a certain champ and it's banned by the enemy or picked first or strongly countered, such is life. But if my own teammate decides that I can't play the champ I want to play, just for the lulz, ESPECIALLY in a non-ranked match, I'd appreciate a free dodge.

Yeah, but hovering is supposed to be effective communication. Helping your teammates choose synergistic champs, making sure you're not full AD, telling your teammates NOT to ban your intended pick, that sort of thing.

Riot shouldn't allow a system that DISCOURAGES communication as a means of defending one's preferred way of playing. That's just unhealthy.

If you hover a yasuo lets say and I immediately op.gg you and notice you are 0.78 KDA on average with a 34% win rate as yasuo I will definitively ban him even if you hover it, I want to win and your yasuo is frankly trash.

At the same time if I op.gg you and you pick a 34% win rate champion when you have a 63% win rate veigar I will encourage you to pick veigar by banning yasuo.

So hovering goes both ways, you announce what u want to play and you let your team decide if they are ok with that pick.

Yeah, see, that's bullshit.

We're on a team, and you don't get to police how I want to play the game. Maybe I want to learn how to play Yas better, or maybe I'm sick of Veigar. Maybe I get hard carried when I play Veigar and trolled when I play Yasuo. Maybe our comp makes infinitely more sense with a Yasuo.

Maybe I just fucking woke up that morning and though "Gee, know what would be fun for me to do today? Play Yasuo".

Bans are to prevent bad matchups for your team. Policing your own teammates based on your snapshot subjective perception of who they should be playing is incredibly rude and counterproductive to keeping team morale high.

Whats the point of team morale if the game can't be won because someone decided "Gee maybe I can win after my 5th consecutive loss with yasuo".

If you want to learn there are bots and practice tool. I want to win.

Bots are shit experience for anybody north of Bronze. I've piloted Yasuo about twice ever, personally, and I'm confident I could penta intermediate bots with him if asked to do so.

I can respect not wanting to have teammates play champs they're weak with, but it's a game, and you shouldn't be policing how your teammates play a game. Banning is a valuable tool to remove poor matchups for yourself or for your teammates, but you're choosing to use it to dictate how strangers placed on your team will act. That's incredibly dickish.

I dunno. Ban your teammate's pick in hopes of forcing them to play a champ they have a higher win rate with, risking tilting them or encouraging them to troll... or ban a champ you have a weak game against.

I'd pick the latter.

personally I think the game is decided by your own team rather than the other team, I can easily outplay and crush my enemy laner but I have a hard time with my own team feeding before I get fed and carry the game.

Sure, but at the risk of encouraging your teammates to troll?

Like, by far my favorite support to play is Bard. Due to some poor luck and a small sample size, my current ranked win rate with him is below 50%. You could ban him out from under me and force me to play a support I have a higher win rate with, but those win rates aren't truly indicative of my relative strengths with the champs, and you're also making the game less fun for me to play. I'm not one to troll, but somebody else in my position might be.

If they troll they get reported, if they pick mordekaiser support someone else in the lobby would dodge or you even if you havent dodged yet, so if you want to selfishly win (talking about ranked) then its a good tactic.

Trolls get reported, but that does nothing for my win percentage.

I already don't have much confidence in my teammates not trolling me WITHOUT hitting them with a targeted "fuck you" before the game even begins.

I dodged because mid had zed hovered and enemies banned zed but I banned yas and he threw a fit said he would troll and feed because of my mother giving birth to me so ya I uninstalled this community has little to offer it's more of an internet zoo
