The Punishment for Leaving Champ Selection

I don't understand why the punishment for leaving champ select is so dramatic. Earlier this evening at around 5pm, i joined a game that i realized i couldn't finish in time before i had to run to the store, so i left at champ select. I can handle the -3 lp loss, even the 5 minute suspension. Come later, i join a game at around 1am (Halloween night playing with some friends), and the client bugs out and turns all black. I gotta X out the buggy client, log back in, only to realize that now i have a whopping 30 minutes to spend suspended from queuing up for another game.

That's absurd. Why does the system take into account a champ select queue i left around 8 hours ago to total up my suspension for 30 minutes? I don't understand why the system has to be that inconvenient for me and my friends that now have to wait an extra 30 minutes before queuing up for another game with me.

It's also absurd that innocent players have to suffer. Let's also put this into perspective: Trolls and toxic players in champ selection. Believe it or not, the system put in place is very well abused; it's nothing new. Nobody wants to be punished for not wanting to play a game with the "mid or feed" player. Sometimes in champ select, some delinquent doesn't get their desired role, and you know what goes through their mind?

"Maybe if i totally troll and pick urgot with smite and clairvoyance, one of these guys will dodge and i'll not only get off scott free, but that dumb guy who took my role will be punished and i'll get to roll the dice again for a higher pick order placement next queue. I am a bona fide genius.

This happens way too frequently. Maybe you just tell me to report him after the game and he will be punished? Well, why should i have to lose a ranked game because some guy decides to flat out ruin it from the start. My other option which is dodging gives me penalties, god forbid i dodge once and get the same guy or another troll in my champ select queue again.

It all just seems counter-intuitive. Give us a feature where we can report players in champ selection OR reduce the penalties given at the first and second dodge. I mean, is it really hurting anyone for the system to just be:

1st Dodge: -3 lp loss 2nd Dodge: -3 lp loss, 5 minute suspension 3rd Dodge: -3 lp loss, 5 minute suspension 4th Dodge: -3 lp loss, 30 minute suspension

TL;DR

Give us a feature where we can report players in champ selection OR reduce the penalties given at the first and second dodge. Trolls are too frequent in champ select not to implement one of these solutions.

The dodge penalty is to reduce intentional dodging. If it's too lenient, people will dodge (more than now) just because they didn't get their preferred champion or role or they got counter-picked so they can artificially increase their chances of winning. This would drastically increase the queue times and make it unfair for those that don't dodge for those reasons.

If your problem is unintentional dodging (like a disconnect) or being forced to dodge (to avoid a troll), then the problem has nothing to do with dodge penalties, it has to do with disconnects and trolls, and those are what need to be dealt with.

It resets once a day. I definitely wish they tracked it long term like other behaviors though because there is a difference between someone who dodges twice a month and they happen to be in the same day and someone who dodges twice every day.

We have seen reduced dodge penalties and it is miserable. It took multiple champ selects for nearly every match.

I think we should be able to send timeshots or screenshots with the written reports to make the lives of the report viewers easier. You would have visual evidence of what happenned. Timeshots should be a reenactment of a few scenes in Champ select or in game which will let the report viewers know exactly what happenned. It's probably going to make it easier for them because all they need to do is long for the alledged offense within the short 2 to 10 second timeshot and they could make much farier judgements when it comes to specific non bot detectable offenses such as flaming or whatever.

I think leaverbuster really needs to be worked on, or Riot needs to start offering to fix people's leaverbuster queues.

During the Bilgewater event, their new updates caused me to dc one or twice EVERY game. A LOT of people experienced this problem and I happened to get put into leaverbuster for it. Now leaverbuster will always be watching me because of that 1 time, it never really leaves. Just lingers. It waits to strike again.

I've seen people get put into it because of game glitches and have to wait so long to play because RIOT'S game glitched on them. It's an extremely unfair punishment if it wasn't even your fault. Pisses me off kinda, they don't really do anything about it. I emailed during the Bilgewater event and they told me they were AWARE of the problems, but wouldn't do anything for me. I had to stop playing because I would just stay in Leaverbuster and I ended up missing out on the event because I was going on vacation later, so I missed time from leaverbuster and from vacation.

I don't know if they actually can fix it for an account, but I think if you get wrongfully put into Leaverbuster for a game glitch, you should be compensated for it at least. It is unfair and is pretty much punishing you for your game happening to bug out. And the time to wait for queue gets longer each time you are in it.

My game usually runs fine, but every once and a while I do get the occasional dc or bug (I've gotten 2 bugs. 1 doesn't let me leave spawn, the other forces me to double click everything and I can't move my camera. Both force me to dc and come back in order to fix it). I don't want to be punished for it.

The punishment for leaving champ select actually punishes well-behaved players more than ill-behaved players.

When someone autolocks, trolls, or is inappropriate early, the ones who leave are usually not the one trolling.

An easy example that comes to mind is a lobby I joined where someone made sexually inappropriate comments towards me, and I felt uncomfortable and left. I was the one penalized, whereas the player who sexually harassed me goes on to play.

Imagine going to a job, being sexually harassed, and then being fired or reprimanded by your boss afterwards - to add insult to injury.

This happens anytime someone trolls, autolocks, or just generally harasses someone else in champ select, and it's not right.
