This makes no sense to me

This has always baffled me, to this day i don't understand what riot thinks is toxic behavior. The most recent example was today, i'm playing norms with a friend, i go jhin jg for the laughs, the game starts i go to take my blue buff level 1, bot lane is leashing and won't leave when i ping, whatever i think maybe they want to leash my gromp cause i'm jhin jg and have a tough clear. the lucian waits and auto steals my blue after i 4th auto it. clearly on purpose and runs to bot the ali. i tell them to "kys" because they legit just fucked me and i'm against a rengar, lucian feeds fb and the game is over at 5 mins... cut to end game screen, the lucian has managed to turn the enemy team against me, as if its my fault they stole my buff and then gave fb?????? is that not toxic behavour? screwing your jg over on purpose???? anywho i got a 14day ban for saying kys, smh this game really doesn't know what toxic behavour is.

Yes, telling someone they should end their life because you're mad at them is toxic.

No, someone taking a neutral monster that nobody owns is not toxic. They did not "steal" your buff, as it was never your buff to begin with - it is the team's buff (as it's on their side of the map), but the jungler does not own the buffs.

assigned =/= owned. besides, blinds is a thing, and no one is assigned anything there. but back to my point, what does a lane have to do with the jungle? jungle creeps are anyones game because they dont belong to either team. Either way though, why are you complaining that he trolled and took "your" buff? you just admitted to playing jhin jg for shits and giggles.

on a final note though, if they managed to "steal" it, thats on you, cause last i checked junglers have summoner 11 , so that was your own mis-timing

Riot assigning lanes has absolutely no relation here. Lanes are assigned, yes, however, no lane owns any particular minions. They may own the lane itself (i.e. if you're assigned top and you go mid the whole game it's reasonable for the midlaner to claim it's "my lane"), but you do not necessarily own any neutral minions. Supports can CS. Junglers can take lane minions. Laners can take jungle camps. There is no prohibition on any of these things.

I'm merely interested.

If I can be assigned top lane, but allowed to go to any lane. What was the point of assigning a lane to begin with?

What are the benefits of "owning" a lane?

As I said, you are not allowed to go any lane if you're assigned toplane. You are required to play the role assigned to you - if you're assigned top, you must go top lane, if you are assigned mid/bot likewise. The only roles that are flexible in their lane are jungle/support - both of whom are allowed to roam. Support, however, is generally expected to stay bot a majority of the time.

If I am assigned jungle, I am allowed to farm any lane and my team may farm the jungle.

If I am assigned support, I am allowed to farm any lane/jungle. However, I have to be bottom lane most of the time.

Yes - however keep in mind each role also has specific expectations to it - botlane will be an aggressive lane, top is usually more sustain oriented, mid is usually mage or assassin playstyle, etc.

Yes. But be careful, it often results in a loss lol. That's the punishment for having poor strategy... you lose games.

Yes that is toxic behavior. So is telling someone to kill themselves. What's the confusion? You were both behaving toxic. He started it and triggered you. Riot doesn't care who started it.

you all have good points, typing the letters "kys" in chat after someone purposely screwed you is completely not ok. Those letters are so hurtful to people in first world countries with access to clean water, food, jobs, and shelter. from now on i too will take my jgler's buff at lvl 1 and report him for flaming me. Thanks for clearing this up for me, i had it all backwards sorry.

The sarcasm does not help your case and is indicative of a toxic attitude.

Everyone is judged on their behavior. Is it ideal that a laner lands a kill on the jungle monster? no because it is inefficient and sets the team back, but that's the same thing as having an Ezreal fire off his ult every time he gets to other lanes to get CS. It's really inefficient and awful for them to do, but is it necessarily a punishable thing? That's debatable. Is it for the purpose of actually tilting players or is it because they are just a selfish player that wants to get ahead of their lane?

However what isn't debatable is you intentionally telling someone to kill themselves. It's on Riot's zero tolerance policy list. If Riot doesn't want you saying that to other people, then you shouldn't. Hands down, no debate. This is Riot's game. You are playing a video game on Riot's property. If they tell you that you should not say certain words on their property, they have every right to tell you to get out if you say it. Just like if someone came into your house and started calling you slurs and insulting you and calling your guests at your house slurs and insulting them, you have every right to kick that person out of your house.
