General question about reporting players

I guess I just want to know, does it work?

As a lower-end-of-silver support, I generally find I am reporting players at least 1 in 3 matches for various things.

This can range from generally making the game an unpleasant experience for the team (flaming, complaining, playing the blame game etc), to more specific things (foul language directed at specific people, disgusting comments, detailed descriptions of what the player did with my mother last night, sexist crap etc).

I guess I just want to know how likely it is that these incidences in which I take the time to write a detailed report on at the end of the game are actually dealt with accordingly.

I guess as an older female player, I like to do my part in trying to improve the game experience for all players, but when I see day after day rising toxicity, it just makes me feel...meh...

riot is working to make report feedback more transparent in the new client, so until we have to hold out.

Yeah, sometimes I wonder if reporting people even helps as I've never seen the popup saying they've been punished. I guess that only happens if you're the report that got them penalized. I just keep on because even though I don't see it. It's like voting where your voice doesn't feel like it matters, but in the end, the more people with the "Yeah I will report toxic behavior" mentality the better... even if it feels less than useful.

The reason the report system isn't reliable is the average player can't grasp its concept. In almost every single Bronze/Silver game you have players who are like "This player died too many times!!! REPORTTTT HIMMMM" (Not a report able offense). That leads to the entire system being flooded with false negatives and people just using it to vent there tilt.

Riot wouldn't be so lenient on reports if players didn't spam it every single game just for not liking someone. Almost 80% of reports (Last time I checked) are for non ban able offenses.

Sad to say this; but there should be a tutorial on how to use the report button/it's purpose for people in Bronze/Silver - since you basically have to draw them a picture for anything in this game.

I've gotten several pop-ups indicating that a reported individual has been punished. It works, so long as you are reporting properly. The reviews don't always happen instantaneously, so it takes time for it to get through the process.

Just got out of a game of 1 for all where someone didn't like that we got TwistedFate, so rather than play the game, he decided to afk farm the jungle and dance at dragon/baron and announce it in all chat. He was negative from champion select all the way to the post game lobby. I guess one of the players on the other team had played with him the game prior, and he did the same thing.

I just got this message. http://imgur.com/8cF99p1

I can understand your frustration trust me and this is coming from someone is gold. But I can also understand that riot would be hard pressed to find the necessary man power to moderate that amount of reports that they get each day.

because it's a bunch of kids bitching nonstop or flaming people.

Some of them blame everybody else and are constants jerks during the game or troll in champ select.

Upvoted. Would be nice to know what to do.... just simply reporting never seems like enough :( Especially when the player is seriously toxic.

Your report contributes to a number of reports that lead to punishments eventually, but the only way for you to find out if your's did anything (from my understanding) is if your report was the specific one that finally caused the punishment, hence you being shown that message in your client.

Please continue reporting. It works, but we don't get very clear or frequent feedback about how well it's working. Yet. New client should have some improvements on that front.

In the meantime, remember that we're teaching the system and the community what is and isn't acceptable; if we let certain behaviors slide because it doesn't feel like it's worth the time to report, eventually that behavior will slip through unnoticed and the community standard will have fallen further.
