Riot Please
I want to set initial precedence and state the obvious, that I am not even close to being the best League player and I'm only gold with the 75% of the players who are gold and lower. With that being stated, I was in a game when half way through, someone on my team decided to rage quit and leave. Look, that's his prerogative I suppose, but what I do not understand is how is another's lack of maturity reflects onto me with the significant loss of LP. League is, at its core, a team game, and to be down one player is exponentially worse than you would think. League has been around for years now, and it is almost laughable how this problem hasn't been remedied. It very honestly stems down to, allotting half a brain to fix this just doesn't fit into Riot's very lack luster business model of sales first. New skins, champions, icons, the expansion and marketing of LCS, etc. makes Riot money but the fundamental issues that plague the game are never addressed. People invest 40+ minutes into each game and it is on Riot to referee it. That there is a fair match being played, and if it isn't, to look into how to remedy that as efficiently as possible. I think a very tangible example is when a bug makes it into the live game and makes a champion completely over powered. That game that was played is not indicative to player skill or strategy, but rather an out of game mechanic. In that case, Riot would look to hot fix the bug. However, in the years League has been out, there has been no hot fix, no remedy, no examination of the matter unless the player didn't connect to the game in the first 5 minutes, even though these two problems are conceptually the same. What Riot should do is make the player who quit prematurely lose double what they would've for the loss, and make everyone else on his team lose 5. That way there still is something at stake for the game, but the loss isn't a huge set back when you inevitably lose. Maybe it's not perfect, at least it is a start, but when you hold everyone on the team to the same negative reinforcement as the leaver, Riot perpetuates the toxic behavior of rage quitting. Riot need not look any further than themselves when looking at who or what is to blame for the toxicity of their community, this is the probable, natural conclusion of Riot putting their wallets before their players.
