Weird, doesn't look like you defended yourself. Defending yourself from verbal situations is removing yourself from said situation. You will not get banned for muting, which is your defense. When you strike back, that is called retaliation, which can make you equally as guilty.

You can apply this "waste your money" statement to pretty much anything in the entertainment department. You can have the opinion it is a waste, but that doesn't make it true for all.

If you want a "safe space" to be toxic and flame people in, then go find another game or place to do so.

Why did you need to 'defend yourself' against flaming?

Do you need a safer space than what Riot is providing?

To be 'safer' than the baseline, you can mute individual chat/pings/emotes, you can choose to not be included in /all chat (you in fact had to opt-in to join /all), you can /mute all, or you can disable chat in the option menu.

Communication doesn't include insulting and name-calling people, which is what you did for the majority of this game. That's not communication, that's harassment, and people are less inclined to listen to you when you're flaming and harassing them constantly. I don't know why you think Riot not allowing this kind of behavior means that they're creating a safe space for people, as many places in real life wouldn't tolerate this kind of behavior and would remove you in a heartbeat. You're just upset that you're actually being held accountable for it and aren't allowed to get away with being a bully, and rather than take responsibility for your actions you'd rather blame everyone else instead.

If other people are acting up mute/ignore them. If you must defend yourself then use the mute button, or at the very least do so without resorting to things like insults or name-calling. "They started it/were worse" doesn't work here. If you reported them and they have a history of poor behavior then they'll be punished too, but that still doesn't excuse your own poor behavior. From Ulanopo's Knowledge Base:

You should know that Riot specifically instructs jurors to ignore most of the conduct of people in a case other than the accused. The reason for this is rather simple: rather than one person causing trouble, you now have two – or more. In my more cynical moments, I have phrased it thus:

Timmy, Tommy and Sarah are trapped in an elevator. Timmy loses his temper and soils himself. Tommy gets angry at the smell and decides to retaliate by soiling himself. Now Sarah is trapped with two smelly idiots. Don’t be Timmy or Tommy. Stop ****ing your pants.

An informal poll of the Tribunal regulars shows that most jurors are willing to excuse a certain amount of response to someone who is attacking you, but that it isn’t considered an excuse for you to become toxic in response. You get MAYBE one or two lines of response. Anything more than that and you’re part of the problem.

Emphasis mine.

If you want a place where you can flame others freely then League is not for you. You can either accept that and change your behavior or move on and find another game to play with less strict rules regarding player behavior and conduct.

P.S. You say you didn't receive any chat restrictions but did receive a 14-day ban previously. This means that you violated the Zero-Tolerance Policy, which prohibits things like hate speech, death wishes, racist comments, trolling and intentionally feeding, and those things get a 14-day ban first punishment since you shouldn't need a warning to know they're unacceptable. The fact that you now got permabanned means you ignored the warning that the next punishment would be a permaban and continued acting up anyways. That's not Riot's fault for handing out the punishment, that's yours for not taking the warning seriously.
