An Introspection into 20 Minute Bans

Hello Riot First off i would love to say that i love League Of Legends. I really love it. It's my most played game of all time. I've been playing for almost 6 years and i just love it and because i love it so much i need help Riot. I really really need help with this.

How can you possibly justify enforcing 5x20 minute waits for leaving 1 match. I understand that its a negative experience for everyone else in the game but its honestly ludicrous. I want an honest to god down right explanation of how you think that this is a fair and just punishment for leave 1 match. 1 single match. No warning, no caution, just bang! and youve got to wait over an hour in cumulative time to play your next five matches. How can you possibly justify this punishment and yet trolls, feeders and the like are allowed to get away without any punishment whatsoever.

The reason for my ban as you may have gathered is because i left 1 match. 1 singular match. Not any consecutive matches. Just 1. So please tell me how this makes sense. Furthermore the reason i left is because my internet connection happened to drop out at the time. This is an uncommon occurrence and the other 99% of games i play go without incident. So now i'm being punished for something that was completely out of my control in an incredibly heavy handed and disproportionate manner

Like i said Riot i need an honest to god explanation of how you think this is a good idea because i'm sure i'm not the first person to complain about this.

I want to love LOL, i really do. But your broken and incredibly unfair punishment is on the edge of pushing even a diehard fan such as my self away

thanks for your time

Complex algorithm that factors in leaving games AND idling in game. To my knowledge severity is added to doing it in ranked (2 or 3 times the weight). Millions of rage posts about people disconnecting matches for years. Riot introduced Leaver Buster as we know it so that if you have an emergency you can ALWAYS leave without getting banned, BUT (and this part is important) you will have time wasted of your own comparable to that of the 9 players who's time you wasted.

Cat on fire? Knock at the door? Kids acting up? Go handle real life immediately, you wont be permanently banned. But if you do it, know that it is with a heavy cost of time (to pressure you to leave only for true emergency's. I used to get leaver busted a lot going out for a cigarette during a match (if I went on tilt) or making a bathroom run if I drank too much mountain dew. But over time those SIZEABLE 5x20 minute penalties added up and I slowly started adjusting. Now I almost always go to the bathroom before starting a match and smoke cigarettes indoors now. Everyone has there own reasons and justifications why they need to leave, and the penalty is just to ensure that everyone has a cost (in time) associated with leaving.

Leaver buster starts with 5x5 then escalates to 5x10 and caps at 5x20. After capping out 2 accounts I figured out the long way how important staying was (or rather was able to associate a common cost to it TIME). After months of not leaving I did get a notification saying congratulations on improving, and not leaving as often. I tested it and Idle for a match (after notice of improvement) and no penalty. I did it again a few games later when my computer overheated and restarted in a match and I got my good old 5x20 again.

This was all years ago and I have had no issues with leaver buster since. Now it's all I think about as I look away from the screen during a mach in progress. I think nope never mind its not worth 2 hours of my life to go now (I still leave If/when work calls me in for an emergency 1 or 2 times a year).

Think of Leaver buster as the great equalizer, rich or poor wasting your time sucks and makes it such a great deterrent to detour individuals from idle for non emergencies.

This link is to a great short simple game that helps me pass time on long queues (I dodge when auto filled, I gladly wait my 30 minutes instead of supporting). It's not as good as league but it is quite entertaining in short bursts.

It's a % of games played. Considering this is a new account and you've played very few 1 game actually represents a large amount.

They used to actually ban people for AFKing/Leaving.
