RANT - The Toxic Community of League

Straight up, this will not be a post I check up on. I'm frustrated and I need to vent it out of my system in some way. If you give replies, good for you. I won't be reading them. This is for me to feel some sense of fairness - even if it's purely a placebo for the sake of trying to make me feel a little better.

Straight Up - League has become Unfun for any casual player wanting an honorable and respectful match with equally respectful peers.

And while a LOT of this comes down to the individual, RIOT is to blame as well for allowing the game to have features that can be exploited to cause emotional aggitation. Which, I respect, is partially in their best interest - if you can make something create an emotional responce, it triggers your addiction to keep comming back to it.

As a business model, its a good one. As a moralistic model, its disgusting.

Lets go into my complaints:

First, Normal is BASICALLY ranked with the exception the Matchmaker doesn't judge your skill level, and none of the god-tier champs are banned. And that REALLY shouldn't be the case. Normal "SHOULD" be the fun and fast experience, where the games are for people who aren't overly competitive and serious but are still sincere enough to want to try.

There is a lot that should be looked at in this, but my vote is - make Surrendering easier. Set the early game Surrender at 10 minutes. Have it THEN be an 80% vote for it to go through. Then, at 15mins, make it a 60% vote. Make the games fun and fast. If you're being steamrolled, don't punish the players who have to wait it out - rewarding the better players who are forced into a role of bullying kids.

Keep Ranked as is. Make surrendering hard to make happen as it currently stands. But make Normal more forgiving for the unbalanced Matchmaker. Players may ACTUALLY have fun!

Second, if a player is feeding (intentional or not) make them worth NO gold for their death. Or make their Gold value equal to a Minion. Don't punish their team because one player went on a "king maker" spree to help the team win. And don't encourage the enemy team to keep picking on an underdog; you're encouraging a mindset that is just ugly.

And, in the case of the item 3041, have it give less Stacks if the target has had consecutive deaths, or even MORE Stacks if they are on a Kill Streak! Encourage takedowns of leaders, and discourage the bullying/ camping of players who may be having a bad time.

Third, IF a player is being abused hard - give them SOME incentive to keep playing! Anything! A free Health Potion or heal beside their Tower that is a one-time use. Nothing overpowered, but something to encourage them to stay in lane.

Fourth, encourage the Jungler to gank lanes that are struggling. If the tower of that lane has 30% less HP then the opposing tower, the champion who has been in that lane the most (aka the one pushing it) should have an additional Gold Bonus for being ganked.

Fifth, make ANY gank (even non-kills) worthwhile. If you can reduce an enemy's health by 40%, but they get away and survive, and you didn't suffer much damage in exchange, you should get a Gank reward. Don't make it an "all or nothing; kill or fail" exchange. Encourage Junglers to do what Ganking should be for - removing the opponent from lane (weather making them go Back or being killed). Give incentives so, even if you don't finish the job, you still ACHIEVED the goal!

Alternatively, if the enemy champion is not in lane for 3 minutes, give the champion farming that lane a "lane control" reward. Encourage the objectives. Give in game incentives so you feel you are doing something worthwhile.

Sixth, drop the Public Emotes. Or, if you're going to use em, make them be mechanically worthwhile. Drop the Health Potions from the game and let players who do a full "taunt" animation gain the HP regen, with a CD in place so its not spammed. If Taunt is going to exist, make it serve a purpose other than trying to play mind games. This is MEANT to be a game of respect - where defeating an opponent should encourage respect for their efforts to survive; not encourage a serial killer mindset where deaths are trivial and only make you stronger. Honestly, I am tired of having to Mute Enemy Emote each time I have a player spamming their animation for their own self-centered, narcissistic, satisfaction.

Seventh, IF a player uses any profanity that the profanity filter needs to censor, RECORD IT! If it gets excessive, hit them with a penalty. There is NEVER a good reason to use profanity, and anyone who defends the right to do so is usually seeking attention, or uses it soo much because they lack the vocabulary skill to create anything close to an alternative.

Eighth, take ANY hate speech (chovanisim, suicide encouragement, etc...) VERY seriously. Players use "ky" too whimsiclay (supportive again of my view this game encourages people to become unempathetic jerks - we have too many in the world already to be encouraging more to follow suit). People should be hit HARD for trying to do this to people. If it was done in real life, it would be verging on a crime. The annonimity of the internet has made people uglier, and the word has become unpleasent because of it

Nineth, allow you to Honor an enemy team mate. Just one. Do it in addition to your team mate honor. And get rewarded for doing so. Encourage the "after match" handshake. Teach people that these people are humans - your opponent wasn't just a bot. They have a life. They have feelings. They have emotions. They want to be happy.

There is more to say - such as the stupidity of allowing high banned champions like Yasuo and Zed to stay unreworked for soo long - but these are mechanical issue that many people complain about. It still needs to be addressed - there are champions in game who are just not fun. And while its appreciative that Riot is pulling up boring champs (like Urgot and Galio ), I feel MANY players don't care about that too much - as not being able to play the game with champions whose effectiveness is hugely broken if the player knows how to abuse it.

I did like what League of Legends was. I have enjoyed some of the progress it has made. And I was kinda hanging on to try out the new Runes that will be out in another month.

But at its core, I've become emotionally invested to a game which treats me on the same basis of an abusive relationship. It promises it will get better, and it gives moments to make me think it will (each patch, each rework), but then I am met with the abuse of MANY players and i remember that while the game may change - unless the people who make the game change it to discourage this nonsense, it will remain the abusive narcasistic-encouraging cess-pool it has become now.

And the sad thing is - kinda like Gun Laws in America - it won't change. Because it makes the company money. And, as I said at the start, its a good business model. Its free to get into, you pay only what you feel like, and it emotionally damages healthy humans, while the unempathetic ones shrug it off - completely oblivious to the fact that their responce is somewhat abnormal and even slightly unhumane.

I've come to this place many times before. I want Leauge to be better. But its got its grip on me, and its hard to let go. I've gone through Riot's "addiction process" of take time off from the game but, having worked in the Casino and Gambling industry, I am well aware this is purely a publicity statement designed to make them SEEM good - but inevitably their goal is to get you healthy enough to come back and give them more of your time and attention.

In the end, I'm probably deleting my account. I can't even sell it despite having all current champions, full rune pages, a lot of champs at lvl 7 mastery, and having given it (Quite easily) YEARS of my life in attention - time I could have used to overcome many of my other issues.

I may probably make a video of it, explaining myself regarding all I've said here. Cause this is NOT a moralistically good game. And maybe it will help other players walk away from it. And MAYBE then, RIOT may try to change AGAIN to try and prevent the loss of their company.

I don't see that change happening, so I'm going to do the best I can and walk away from it all.

Riot - you have a good business plan. But you are ruining lives by encouraging the mindset your game promotes. I've come to this precipice many times, and the sad thing is - there will be comments following this thread that will prove my point. That players are aggressive and abusive, who want to exploit the advantage of the privacy of the internet to be abusive people.

Whats worse is I can imagine this game COULD promote self harm in people. And thats an ugly image to have.

When i hit send, I'm going to help a friend do some work they need help with. And, once thats done, I'm going to re-email the support group for Riot and have my account deleted so I have no way of comming back to this game.

You have hurt me, and I'm disapointed you allowed this community to take on anyone who wanted to play this game, and disapointed again you encouraged them to become worse people than they were.

Good bye Riot. While I know everything I've said here has no weight, I do hope your company does get replaced by something beneficial for the youths of our world. You are really not encouraging them to be better people with your model.

1- Normal is preparing you for ranked, if you want "fun" play aram, or the custom games liek doom bots, I hear its great fun. Not my thing but those who play love those modes. 2- thats already the case, if your dying alot without getting at least an assist your worth less and less gold down to I think 50g, still more than a minion I know 3-The incentive to keep playing is the chance at a comeback and winning, they don't need free items to keep them in the game. 4-No, that just directs the jungle to gank lanes worth more gold when other lanes could be struggling more. 5- if the gank works the enemy laner backs out, the reward is they miss out on cs and exp, if they stay you regank and get a free kill. 6- No, this is not useful in anyway 7- Define profanity, cursing is acceptable until applied towards someone 8- They already do, any use of it starts at a 14 day ban if not perma. 9- We had that option awhile back, people still didnt honor them if they did it was rare the rework of champs(assassin rework, already ahppened) 10- they reworked a bunch of champions, zed isn't the god he use to be nor is yasou. But if you don't want to see them play draft or ranked and ban them.

The rework on galio and urgod, are great they do exactly what you say bring old heros back to the forefront of the game, basically reinventing them as new heros. Nothing wrong with that, its just a flavour of the month thing, they'll be nitpicked by pros and guide makers until they're figured out enough, just to new to really.

how is the game moral? Will need further explanation

best of luck in what you decide to do

So basically you don't like the game? The changes you are suggesting would change League into something else entirely, and something unfun
