Afks in ranked

So, i was playing my ranked games, like a normal silver 5 pleb, and I finally got to my promos. During these promos i won my first game and got a crack smoking afk in my second. Thinking that this thing would not happen again I went on to my 3rd promo with my duo buddy. In this last game I encountered two more afks and lost my promos. Now, this has probably been discused before but why do you stole lose lp, promo games, etc, if you have an afk? I know this could be exploited to make people climb easier, but still hurt others. Such as if you duo up with your partner and you know you are going to lose the game so one of you leaves and take the bullet for the other. But I'm pretty sure that Riot could find a way to get around that. Just wanted to hear other's opinions on the matter.
