Am I Doing Something Wrong?

I'm fairly new to the game (only about level 16 with about a month of playtime at best) so my opinion might not matter much. But so far, as of August 8th 2016, this game isn't very "player-friendly". In the every game I've been in I've been called homophobic and racial slurs and no one else seemed to bother reporting them or even responding to it. Is this how the games normally are, or am I just not an approachable person?

Unfortunately, yeah, the community can be very toxic at times, just mute them if they start flaming you and be sure to report them after the game.

Best of luck on the fields of justice! [slayer-jinx-catface]

Been here for 2 years. I rarely get abused for no reason. However, people blow up if you start doing badly...... Best way for me is to not screw up, so I won't get yelled at. In fact, League players are pretty friendly if you know how to deal with the Cherynobyl level of Toxicity.

Sadly in the lower levels people tend to be more toxic. But as you level up and climb you'll find that most League players are actually very nice. Try starting the game off with a friendly message to get people in a good mood such as "I like your skins, glhf :D". It may sound cheesy, but it works most of the time. There isn't much else you can do, but report them and move on. Good luck to you ^-^

Thats generally how online competitive games go. If you've ever played something like COD or w/e. Any game that pits people against each other tends to spark a lot of rage (Especially in a game as competitive and high stress as League of Legends).

I'd suggest just muting everyone in your game till you reach lvl 30, as newbie games tend to be extremely toxic. (Due to the fact that people have no idea what they're doing)

League of Legends a hardcore competitive game, which can be stressful at times, so it might not be the game for you, if you were looking for something casual. Unless you play Arams, then you do w/e the F*** ya want lol.

this game is terrible if u want polite games... run now and run fast.. it will get much much worse... this game is NOT player friendly in ANY way,, ill say that again... in ANY way..... expect to be trolled, flamed, and degraded... as the normal course of any game...

Yo the community won't improve verbally with more time and you sure as hell won't find many nice players in your average climb even past lvl 30 or bronze.

The early levels are pretty bad with toxicity. As all the It gets much better after you hit lvl 30.

Also, you don't need to call for reports, as 1 report is the same as multiple reports. It flags the system to check for toxicity against them, if found toxic, they system will ding them and build a case against them. If there isn't any toxicity, then the report will get thrown out.

Which also means that you don't need to worry too much about people threatening you with reports. But make sure you do you job in reporting them.

What sucks though, is the visibility the reporting system provides, as you don't get any punishment notifications if the game you reported someone else was just building a case against them. You'll only get the notification if your game you reported was the game the last straw the person got punished. We also aren't sure if you get notifications if someone was just punished with chat restrictions. Thus it can feel like your reports don't do anything ! But it actually does a pretty good job in getting the needed people punished, so do report them afterwards if you feel harassed.

It's not you, trust me.

I've been leveling an alt account and some of the behavior I've seen there has just been downright disgusting... pretty sure a lot of it comes from people who got their account(s) banned already.

Unfortunately I can't really tell you it'll get (much) better but luckily there's a mute button and that does help provided you make use of it.

(and no, muting doesn't really put you at a disadvantage. Anyone who is spending their time flaming or whatever isn't going to have anything useful to say.)
