Hi, not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but I've recently had a 10 game chat restriction. I am 100% convinced that this was an unjust ban. I'll post the log shortly, the context was fairly obvious, and my behaviour is a little toxic I will admit, but the Varuses behaviour was about 100 times more toxic. First of all he was in the wrong in regards to who should be where, second, he stole all the CS he could and gloated about it at every turn. He trolled and spammed in caps in all chat whenever I left the lane to gank. He also threatened to feed. Then, the enemy team said they were reporting me for whinging about it. Now I know what you might say "Just mute him and move on" Well he still stole the lane and ruined the game, so there wasn't much I could do about that, so I just wanted to see him punished, and now I got punished.

I don't want to seem like I'm making threats or what have you, but if this is the way that players who are the RECIPIENTS of toxic behaviour are treated, I'm quitting the game on principle, simple as that, I'll go back to Dota 2.

Also, I'm unclear on exactly what I was banned for, is it swearing? I've seen lots and lots of swearing in my short amount of time playing, is that really a bannable offense?

Threatening people with reports is negative and a punishable offense. The report system is there to solve problems, not harass people and create drama. If you have a problem with a player's behavior, ask them respectfully to stop; if they won't, then mute and report them without saying anything about it.

Even without that, almost your entire use of chat is insulting other players and being passive-aggressive. That won't solve your problem with a player taking your role or playing poorly. More likely it will cause them to play worse and direct their anger at you, and make you an annoyance to the rest of your team.

I understand that part, but I'm almost positive the other player wasn't punished, when his behaviour was far worse. I've seen this argument all around the forums, players are banned for responding to toxic behaviour, but not the instigator of the behaviour, how is that remotely fair? That's exactly my case. I've played plenty of games with good manners or fine manners, but the one time someone griefs me, I respond to it and I get banned? I really don't care if that's the case, I'm not putting up with that system, back to Dota 2 it is.

Are you so absolutely certain the other person didn't get punished in some fashion?

And how did your response help in any way? Throwing rage at someone is definitely NOT how you get them to be pleasant.

How are you fairly sure? Dropping language like that is solid fast track to punishment. So how are you sure?

Reports work by how many games you're reported in, not how many times you're reported in one game. If 9 people report you in a game while you report one person, and that person goes off to continue getting reported, he is more likely to get punished than you. This (in a way) prevents premades from ganging up and getting someone unjustly banned. If he's using homophobic slurs than I don't think this game is the only time he did so, and he likely is or will be punished soon.

Where's the question then? A 10-game chat restrict is barely a punishment anyway.

How else am I supposed to react when I'm getting griefed? Do the Riot moderators live in some fantasy world where you sit there and do nothing when people antagonize you?

There are other ways to react to ~~grieving ~~ EDIT: griefing that are not toxic. Muting. Ignoring. Not subjecting to name calling, etc (aka being toxic in response). You're responsible for your own actions and being toxic while saying "But he was more toxic / toxic first" is not an acceptable response. For instance, if someone steals your bike, the cops won't really be all that understanding if you steal said person's TV.

It's the same with Riot's view of Toxicity (in many regards is close to if not is cyber bullying). It's not a reflection of Riot Moderators being in some 'fantasy world'. It's just a uniform response to toxicity and applying/enforcing their rules for their game.

i'm no moderator. people antagonize me, i report them, never beg people to report them because it's not required to get them banned.

Someones behaviour doesn't entitle you to be toxic. Both of you should've been punished.

It's really not worth your effort to try and fight it, particularly if it's just a chat restriction for 10 games.

Riot wants you to treat other people like they are ~6 years old so you'll want to either adjust how you interact with them or be prepared to get restrictions and other penalties, etc.
