Harsher Penalties for AFKer in ranked, who cares if they have crappy internet.

BerfBat··5 votes·931 views

Today I played 10 games, and had 4 games were someone went AFK. Additionally I have lost gold promos twice from AFKers, and then demoted all the way down to Silver 3 b/c of a pathetic match making system (nothing like going vs two plat 4, and three gold 2/1, while our team is 4 bronze and a silver....) Back to the AFKers... There is no penalty, I have never got notification of people getting penalized, even when both teams run reports for the salty afkers. You need to fix this and I have a solution for you..... If someone in game AFKs out of toxicity, they should be DROPPED AN ENTIRE RANK!!! Then they can AFK their way to plastic division. It would make it so people would really really double think that AFK, and if anything kill the game for them, no one needs them in League.

LeaverBuster does not issue notifications to players reporting/being affected by a leaver.

Please review these boards. There are harsh penalties for people who afk - even those who frequently have computer issues and don't actually intentionally leave.

There is not a reliable way to determine if someone is "afking out of toxicity" or if they had a legitimate emergency in real life and/or a connection issue.

BerfBat1 votes

Leavebuster needs an EDIT then, it should have no problem catching simple numbers..... Such as 0/4/0, or 1/6/0 so the person died 4/6 times, and 10 min into game AFKed... It is not that hard to program something to put 2 an 2 together, then issue a result.

Chermorg1 votes

You are advocating for blindly punishing people extremely harshly for afking with no allowance for leaving due to an in real life emergency.

Once I had to leave because a family member was in a car accident and was going to the hospital in an ambulance. You're saying that if I happened to be losing lane at that time, I should be dropped an entire rank for taking care of my family over a stupid video game?

BerfBat1 votes

Yes.... The other people in game have zero relation to your real life needs.... Now if your score shows some participation then perhaps a penalty would not be issued; but regardless you just wasted 30 min of 4 other peoples dedicated time and energy into a game. Again people in this community could care less for the reason behind you leaving a game..... Compassion is not even remotely a concept of this community...

Chermorg1 votes

So where's the line?

And you know, you're the only person I've ever seen advocate for dropping an entire rank for a real life emergency that happened one time.

Well over 50% of other people understand real life emergencies happen and understand leeway should and does exist. There are some people (well less than half) that think the system should be harsher, but I have never seen anyone with absolutely no compassion for you.

I sincerely hope you get harshly leaverbustered on your first leave due to internet problems of a real life emergency.

BerfBat2 votes

Lol, there is no line.... That is not how the system should work..... If someone has an emergency, Oh no so sorry, you can climb again, but you just destroyed someones promos, and they lost 40LP, because of YOU. Now that person has basically dropped and entire rank, why should you not suffer the same fate? All this applies more for RANKED, if people want to AFK regardless of reason like "I have crappy internet," and such let them do it in normal games.

Chermorg2 votes

... No... They haven't...

Promos are a 3 (or 5) game series. One loss won't kill them.

Keep in mind they lose LP as well as having their leaverbuster penalties. Further, if the leaver was in their series, they immediately lose it.

BerfBat1 votes

Well lets take my gold promos for example, remember this happened twice, not once, but twice.... I was on my 5th game needed one more win, all was going well and then one game top AFKed, and the other JG afked 10-15min into the game. Now I get demoted to Silver 1 40LP, and they stay where they are at and don't even get a smack on the hands.... That is the best balance I've seen, where the person trying their best is demoted, and the AFKer loses 19LP, and jumps right back into the next game.

Chermorg1 votes

They will lose 19 LP. If they were in promos, they will immediately lose their promos as if they lost all games.

Further, if they habitually leave games, they will be given a 5 minute LPQ, then a 20 minute LPQ, and then further punishments up to and including manual suspensions of the account.

This boils down to this: You aren't the most important person in the world. Everyone's allowed to have an emergency once in a blue moon. Learn some fucking compassion for others, or I hope people show none for you when you need it.

BerfBat2 votes

Ya, no compassion here buddy... Sorry this community does not care about your personal life, or what EMERGENCY you had.... All they know is you screwed them over, and I promise you they are thinking you are a lying SOB... That is the reality.

Chermorg2 votes

Actually, the community overwhelmingly understands one emergency in a blue moon.

You seem to be at odds with the community here. No matter how many times you say vaccines cause autism doesn't make it true man.

BerfBat1 votes

I find it amazing how that one person has had the same aunt/uncle die 50 times..... Oh look compassion, and that person is just ruining the game for hundreds of people...

Chermorg2 votes

I find it amazing how that, given the millions of League players, you've played with the same person 50+ times. Otherwise, how do you know they afk 50+ times?

BerfBat1 votes

It was an analogy, suppose to show you the concept that one person can use the same excuse, in 50 games, every time, and get away with it based on your "compassion." Now would you have the same compassion if that person was flaming the team and went 1/12/0 in JG at 14min in and said, "Have to go EMERGENCY?" I would think you would not have as much COMPASSION..

Chermorg1 votes

If they afk 50 times, they'll be caught by the system long before they reach 50 afks.

The current system allows 1 emergency in a while. Any more than 1 afk/leave and people risk penalties. It's not based on claims at all, just based on how often they leave.

BerfBat1 votes

See that is what I am not experiencing.. On the fifth game of my Gold promos, I lost my promo b/c of the AFKer, then jumped into a second game to refresh my mind and hopefully have a good game after losing my promo to an afker.... And guess who is in my game... Legit the same person who AFKed in my promos...

Chermorg1 votes

You mind providing a link to the op.gg to prove this? It's certainly possible but highly unlikely.

BerfBat1 votes

This was 1.5 weeks ago at least does it go back that far?

Imperial Pandaa1 votes

Sometimes. What champ were you? Also Iblike the off meta supports like ori.

Imperial Pandaa1 votes

If they frequently afk they get LPQ from the Leaverbuster. If it continues, they can be banned. Just because you don't know they get punished doesn't mean they don't.

And what about things outside their control? If someone is losing lane a someone crashed into a power pole they deserve an extreme punishment?

I would only barely consider this specifically for people who do it on purpose and declare such. The "Nah, you deserve to lose" group. Legit situations you can't control shouldn't penalize you.

BerfBat1 votes

I get it, we have gone over this, yes someone has an emergency, but the 4 other people don't care... Seriously, you could say you just crapped yourself, got struck by lightning, and the house started on fire.... Again it does not matter to the other 4 people who think you are lying because you were doing bad in game... and that "frequent" portion of AFKing leading to a SEVER punishment... Well that is more or less they get to do it 10+ times.. Now 1 person has made 40 people salty on their ranked games..

Imperial Pandaa1 votes

And it sucks, but the problem that Chermorg and I have is you are essentially using a blanket method for this punishment. I am avid believer that before you que you should make sure you will be fine with for 40 minutes, pending emergencies. Family member in an accident? Fire? Guess what, the life of myself and those I care for will take precedence over a game.

Could improvements be made to the system? Yes, but we need to consider what is too harsh for legit emergency afks, and consider if a proposed system could be abused.

In fact I was just thinking about the argument against a loss forgiveness for the team of an afk, someone might try to flame/troll to force someone to leave. With this, griefers have an even better tool. Force someone to afk and make them take a rank down.

BerfBat1 votes

Well if we wanted to bare the compassion in mind, after the game is over and they show the X on their line for afking, I think the TEAM should then have the ability to de-rank that person via vote by majority. If you want to believe they had an emergency, you could pardon them, other wise you have the power to demote them right then and there.... This would make the blanket cover more specific terms.

Imperial Pandaa1 votes

Slightly better. Normally I just report for the afk after game no matter what reason they leave. That way there is documentation that it happened and they did in case it is a trend.

Lets build on this suggestion though. Some key questions: How is the vote decided if 2 voted yes and 2 no? What about premades in flex? What about the people who try and force an afk? The premades that try and force them? Do remakes do this?

Terozu1 votes

You wont get banned for afking only leaver bustered.

Imperial Pandaa1 votes

If you do it too often they may manually review which can lead to bans.

Terozu1 votes

Noone has ever been banned for afking. I have afkd a lot due to medical issues since I often play inside the hospital, having to go for exams, and surgeries. I have been leaver bustered very often. That is the only punishment for AFKing, not bans.

They actually do get penalized. In addition to LeaverBuster penalties, frequent AFKers/quitters are levied with additional penalties.

Terozu1 votes

Additional penalties do not mean bans. They mean things like syspension from ranked games.

Imperial Pandaa2 votes

Don't try speaking for the entire community. If someone goes in chat and says they have to go because of an emergency I wish them well. If it is because they have to go to work, I chastise them with a simple "Plan time better for future teams." Because I understand that stuff happens or a mistake.

Chermorg1 votes

Much agreed.

BerfBat1 votes

I get ya, really I do, you are like 1 in 2,500 people who have that mentality. You are thinking about the person on the other side of the computer. Everyone else is thinking how their game is screwed...

The JigSAW1 votes

I've always advocated the concept of rank being dependent on individual performance similar to mastery grades for reasons just like this. There's no reason people who AFK should be allowed to cost their team matches, potentially divisional/tier promotionals, and get away with a loss and a leaverbuster. Not enough.

BerfBat1 votes

I like this.

The JigSAW1 votes

Hell, honestly we need a 1vs1 and 2vs2 ranked. All the people who fight non-stop about how bad their teams are can prove it by going into ranked games that feature 1 on 1 or 2 on 2 action. That'll leave the team matches for those who wish to work together.

Just as an example, I stopped using ADC's bot for a while and used some top and some mid. The results? S, S, S, win, mastery level 7. My scores were tremendous, my cs was higher, and I had more confidence. I was better off alone, and anybody who said I was a bad ADC can see the games and scores for themselves and realize they are wrong.

Wouldn't it be fun if we had ranked games allowing people to find out once and for all if it really is the team, or themselves, that isn't particularly good?

BerfBat1 votes

Like!

GamerThink1 votes

I would be happier of more forgiving penalties for people who have AFK teammates...

Maybe a bonus IP/EXP to all other players after the AFK is checked (through cps, for instance)? This would also include players who have to remake a game, to make up for the time lost (so that they would receive just this bonus).

People who AFK may have their own problems and you never know what actually happened to them!

BerfBat1 votes

Ya, no one cares about their problems... IP is kind of useless, same with exp at level 30. I like your concept to reward those who had to suffer due to someone being a tool. Even if an AFK instantly resulted in a 2 day ban... It would make a dramatic difference.

GamerThink1 votes

no one cares about their problems...

Are you serious? How old are you?

By the way, the biggest problem is that the other players will have a bad time, so the only thing to do is indeed reward them for their patience and make up for the time lost.

Apart from ranked games, usually you get IP and EXP from a match, nothing more, why would you despise such bonus? And even in ranked games, victory is never sure, and you will probably get the same amount of victories and losses with AFK players which thus balance out.

BerfBat1 votes

Let me give you a scenario: I am playing top, I die twice in 4 min. Then flame the JG, and the rest of my team. I die an additional 4 more times, and then tell you all I have an emergency and you see "So and So has QUIT." Still think there is an emergency? No, you don't, you then are pissed and report him after you lose your promotion to masters....

GamerThink1 votes

I don't think the fact you quit changes much as you did way more than that in the scenario you present. And the bigger problem, as I already said, is not that you need to be punished, it's that the guy lost his promo because of your behavior.

BerfBat1 votes

In that scenario I lost my promos, b/c of him "his pathetic behavior." I play support, I get blamed for everything. That is a whole other scenario.... Like me getting blamed for a J4 going AP in JG.... In ranked, that should be a de-ranking offence.

GamerThink1 votes

You see: the problem is that you should be getting a compensation for this. Don't you think?

BerfBat1 votes

Yes, but that will never be put into play, as people would exploit it.

GamerThink1 votes

It seems stupid to exploit having partial IP/EXP from a remade game rather than full IP/EXP from a played game. I'm pretty sure it could be implemented easily without being exploitable.

hyuneee1 votes

You can quit the game and leave league for the afkers. That will help solve most of your issues. If not, you are just like everyone else that plays LoL, so don't be butt hurt.
