Death Threats to my Family

UPDATE

Riot Games considers death threats to an individual and his family to warrant a 1 day ban. Very Professional.

Hello Everyone,

Recently I was involved in a game on Summoner's Rift in the Ranked Solo/Duo queue. We had a Lee Sin jungle who will be the main character in this post. In the simplest terms, he made death threats to me regarding my wife and my kids.

This type of behavior is a perfect example of cyber bullying. I did submit a report at the end of the game for Harrasment/Verbal Abuse/Hate Speech. I am posting this because I want to be sure that individuals such as this Lee Sin are permanently banned from being able to partake in the League of Legends community. The feeling I had after this game was overwhelming sadness and hatred. I love my family more than anything and when threats are made about them, it hurts me deeply.

Please, Riot, do your due diligence in removing this player so he can no longer hurt anyone else in this community. I have also downloaded this replay and I intend on bringing it to my local Police Department to press charges on this individual. With "Cyber Bullying" being a very hot and controversial topic these days, I have faith that my local Police Department will handle this case accordingly.

The local news will also be receiving this replay and hearing my story. This type of press will not look good for Riot Games as a company if nothing is done to punish this player permanently. I live in Michigan, in the Detroit area, so Channel 4 will be the local media station that I will be submitting this to.

Thank you for your time and I hope to hear from someone at Riot Games soon.

Hi SOA Junior,

I understand that you're upset but I had to delete your threads as they were cluttering the boards.

If you read the reply (click the ! on the top right), I mentioned to you two things:

  1. It is against the rules to name and shame on these boards. By posting a link to your match history, it showed that user's name thus breaking that rule.

  2. As stated, you also posted 13 threads on every sub-board here which warrants for spamming.

I would have offered a warning but with those two actions, it warranted for a 1 day. I can leave this one up since it is not breaking any rules but be sure to read the Universal Rules before posting.

Or you can mute the guy. What he said was messed up and deserved a report, but geez, just mute him. Obviously he's not going to do anything. Obviously he doesn't know where you live. Ignore, or mute, finish your game, and move on. This seems absurd. And threatening Riot if they don't take action? That's so over the top. The mute feature is a wonderful thing. Mute it, ignore the toxic players, and play the game.

This is unfortunately where a reality check needs to come into play:

  1. While a death threat is technically illegal, it is often difficult to prove the intent or, for that matter, the person that actually authoried it in many cases. Therefore, going to the police and other theatrics based upon what someone in an online game said to you will often lead to a dead end. If the threat was very specific and contained more personalized information about you, then it is more likely to be investigated, but logistically speaking law enforcement have higher priority cases and more pressing investigations.

  2. The appropriate channel to report someone that you feel has wronged you is by utilizing the in-game reporting system or opening a support ticket.

  3. Your actions, which included spamming the forums along with naming and shaming the individual involved, do not help matters and actually will get your account banned ultimately.

In the future, mute the player in question, report them and for the love of God, don't take internet death threats seriously. I don't ... in fact, I suaully respond by giving them my address and telling them a time that's convenient for me to show up... guess what? Nothing has ever happened. Nothing ever will. So, just relax, report and move on.

Correction,

Riot Games banned the original poster from the boards for posting this. This is such a shame. I guess it just gives the original poster more ammunition against Riot Games and the players they allow in their community.

Spamming the Boards is not the thing to do when you want something. Post in the correct Board and the correct Board only, or otherwise you will be warned or punished. We have the Universal Rules here for a reason.
