Muting intead of banning.

Dear Riot,

Can't you just mute me instead of instantly pummeling me with the 14 day ban hammer? I can't help myself. I have to point out degeneracy when I see it. This is how I am. I cannot censor myself. Just disable my chat if you must enforce an anti-free speech rule on your players.

I just got unbanned today. The first game I played, I pointed out that my teammate should've tanked a turret hit which obviously would've prevented my death (just like I had done for him twice already). He started calling me names even though he clearly has the inferior intellect here. Thus, I told him what's what, kept correcting every mistake he made and now I'll probably get banned again. There has to be a different way.

Greetings I Cry Rivers (name was chosen for good reasons)

To be blunt -- that is your problem to deal with. There are ways that you can get help with that if you want, and, if you don't want to seek out those ways, then you must accept the fact that you may run into issues associated with your inability to hold back your comments or censor your own speech when necessary.

There has to be a different way.

There is. As stated above, you can seek out assistance in learning to hold back your comments, or you can find other outlets for it. Riot's studies have shown, however, that chat bans are NOT an effective solution to the issue in enough cases to make it a solution they want to implement.

There are others like you. Turns out though, when you mute toxic people for extended periods of time, they just start inting instead.

So does Riot.

Sad to say brother but Riot only care about the surface of toxicity , not its roots , which is trolls/afkers/inters .

And as long as they keep ignoring the roots of our frustration and toxicity as player trying to climb , the system wwill be flawed and this game will be awful to play half of the games .

Let me clear something up. You folks keep slinging around free speech, like you know what you're talking about. You absolutely do not.

Free speech only applies to public areas and establishments operated by the government. Your rights to complete free speech end the moment you step foot in a privately owned establishment, because at that point, the owner of the establishment sets the rules and decides what's allowed and disallowed in their venue (so long as there's nothing illegal going on like theft or murder). You no longer can just blast off what you're thinking, regardless of other people, because that establishment has the right to boot your ass to the curb for violating their rules.

A privately owned internet space, like the servers on League and even these forums, follow those same rules. Your rights to complete, unfiltered free speech are limited in spaces like this, because you are in a space that is privately owned, and the owner of the privately owned space has rules they expect to be followed. Therefore, you have absolutely no rights to be an asshole, no rights to use slurs, no rights to insult people, and you have every right to suffer punishments if you do these things that violate the rules set forth by the owner of this private owned space.

It seems that we are dealing with a victim culture on these forums. I'm trying to discuss policy here. There is no need to make false arguments. I am merely advocating proportionality in sentencing.
