Banned for misinterpretation of "kys"

I was playing a game of aram. 9 minutes into it, our graves still hadnt died and had a bunch of gold. I told him to kill himself so he can buy. I've done this many times before, since it obviously helps to go and buy items. Thats it. Im pretty sure nobody else said anything all game, so obviously no ill intent. For even more context, after I told him to kill himself, he did die, and that was his only death the entire game.

Edit: I asked the graves if he was the one that reported me, he said no and that he knew I meant when I said it to him. So I have no idea who reported me Game 1 Lélouch: graves Lélouch: graves kys Lélouch: kys

If this was your first time hit by the system, and didn't really understand it I'd probably buy into this.

However, this is your 8th penalty.

I see you already opened a support ticket, so they will take a look at this and make a determination.

They were banned because of how they acted in game, not for how they acted when they weren't in the heat of the moment. If they act the same way here they get banned from here as well.

Like I said, even the person I said it to knew exactly what I meant by it. because I asked him about it, and even he sent a ticket to try and get me unbanned. I've gotten chat restrictions as you can see, but it has never progressed into a ban because once i do get restricted I watch my mouth. Again, never claimed I'm a perfect summoner, just saying that in this case I was not actually telling him to kill himself, the player, but his character, so he could buy.

thats irrelevant. the problem is that you were punished for the 8th time and was still not able to learn from those 8 times.

Why does anything I did in the past matter at all in this case? Especially when I WASNT EVEN FLAMING. I've never tried to contest any of my chat restrictions before because I knew I deserved them. I'm contesting this because I am banned for telling a player to kill themself so they can buy in aram.

I'd consider yourself lucky that you even got 8 times to redeem yourself. Most people on this board get perma'd within their 3rd to 4th. tbh, you shouldn't have been banned in this instance, but I wouldn't be surprised if you said you got banned a month later considering you've had 8 chances already.

I've often debated how to handle this issue in ARAM, and my recommendation would be to phrase this very differently. "KYS" will trigger the system, and you don't have any other context here that would let anyone other than Riot know what you meant -- and maybe not even them.

In the future (if this isn't a permanent ban and/or if you get your account back), I'd recommend "Let the tower kill you." Take the extra two seconds to provide the context and clarity needed to avoid issues with your account.

And... considering Tantram's post stating that you've had 8 prior penalties... I don't particularly support removing this anymore. I'm not against removing it, but I'm neutral.

All those other times I was chat restricted I knew I deserved it, hence why I never asked for it to be reversed. In this case, I was not flaming, poor choice of words (or letters), but there was no ill intent.

Consider next time saying "Die to the tower" or something along those lines. It has the meaning you intend, without opening up a can of worms in "kys"

Yeah I plan on doing that. I literally wrote kys because its fast and gets the point across. I guess intent doesnt matter, only the trigger "kys"

"go shop" is relatively quick way to say it. "Kys" has specific toxic meaning and it is pretty much impossible for the IFS to determine if someone intends it for a non-toxic way. Even that Graves might have found it difficult to determine and might in fact been the one who reported the OP.

I'm very happy that this is not the case. This is actually mildly amusing.

As others have said, you could probably have handled this a bit better, by saying "die to turret", or something.

the phrase is the issue...

it automatically determines that has hate speech/bullying and with the automated punishment system it looks for key words/phrases

so basically it thinks you are using it to tell grave to go kill himself and not for him to die to turret to go and get items ...

Yeah, I had no idea you could get a ban for just typing it. I obviously wont say it anymore, but its frustrating when your only ban youve ever gotten was because you told someone to suicide so they could buy items :/

yea. and of late ... seems to be that riot is issuing out alot of punishments ... like they decided well end of season lets clean up all the trash before the new season comes out ( maybe so they dont have to give out as much rewards , idk sometimes i like to play devils advocate to conspiracy theories )

hopefully it gets over turned. but they will try to argue that context dont matter and its still a no no... and sometimes this needs to be this way, a zero tolerance... but not everything is black n white. there is a lil black on this end and a lil white on that end and a whole mess of grey area inbetween

I'm curious. What did you do that game to get reported? You can spew all the racial slurs and hate speech all you want in game and you will never be punished if you don't get reported. No report = no IFS = no ban.

What else is there to this story.....?

Theres nothing else to it. Those 3 lines of text are the only things I said in chat. We won the game, we all did good, got my favorite champ too. Nobody flamed anyone on our team. Im fairly certain "kys" triggered their system.

No. The IFS does not auto scan every single game and punish people. The IFS ONLY review reported games. I am 100% certain you DO NOT get banned if you do not get reported regardless of what kind of hate speech you spewed.

There has been many an occasions Rito Tantrum who wrote the IFS shared the condition of his codes. Off the top of my head, it is something like:

(if report > 0) { .... }

It means if you do not get reported (report = 0), you do not trigger the IFS. Someone on your team or the enemy team had to report you for you to get banned. Maybe it was salt report from the enemy or maybe someone on your team stealth report you. I don't know. But saying "kys" in and of itself is not auto ban.

Like I said, it could be a random salt report from the enemy or maybe your own teammate knowing how the system works stealth reported you. One thing is certain, you got reported that game and unlucky that the IFS has no other context to know it is not flame (none of us would if you don't explain it or watch the game ourselves). Submit a support ticket and explain your context. Good luck.

Group of randos, OP talks ONCE in chat to tell Graves to "kys"; just because Graves understood the context doesn't mean the other three teammates all got what OP was saying. All it would take was for ONE of them to read it as OP flaming Graves, and boom, there's your report.

Believe it or not, people report teammates for flaming even if they win the game.

I hope you get this suspension removed, but I doubt the cucks at Rito will do it. Even if you do manage to summon a Rioter/Warden/Arbiter here, they don't care. Good luck anyways.
