Getting flamed/Hover banned for hovering Sona in ranked

Every couple of games I'll hover Sona as my support pick because shes my main and I enjoy her, but then some asshole decides to flame me and make me feel like shit for playing a "Shit champion" or they just flat out ban my pick and spout something along the lines of "If you play shit you lose". What do people in Low Elo have against this champion? I don't really feel like shes in an exceptionally bad place right now and even has some decent buffs coming next patch. Is this community really just that trash at the moment?

They watch streamers and sheep what the high ELO say. Little did they know that knowledge and familiarity > META any day.

At least she got buffed this patch and can actually catch up with her teammates rather than having them speeding towards their target while being 1 pixel away from your purple aura.

When this happens, and it’s rare, I just say congrats you just banned my 67% wr champion and hover some random non support champion. Then let them know I’ve never played this champion, ask what runes and items I should get for random champion. Someone usually leaves quickly knowing the game is most likely lost.

Another Tactic is to pick the adc champ if you get first choice and will be playing as the adc.

Really if people ask me not to play a champ or to play certain type I will if it isn’t promos. If your rude and think you get to decide what I will play odds are against a good outcome. Nothing loses a game faster than tilting team members. So why start that in champ selection?

Sona is the weakest support in the game. I literally go out of my way to check the support's match history to ban her.

My recommendation: find a new main. Nami, Bard, Yuumi, Senna, all of these play identical to Sona, but are actual viable characters. Maybe not Senna, since she has an over 20% banrate.

Sona is one of those “dodge on sight” champions if it’s locked in on my team in ranked.

Her early game is so garbage for a champ that has to scale to late game to be useful. Doesn’t help that as a support, she hits level breakpoints far later than any of the other 8 players in the game.
Her utility isn’t good enough for mid game to set up tempo.
I refuse to have another sona main “support” me by standing miles behind me during laning phase.

Doesn’t excuse players banning it since there is zero reason to ban sona over the broken bs that’s in this game now, but dodging I can understand.

In all seriousness, I would play something off-meta. Not inting, off-meta. Who's to say nunu support doesn't work? There's really no rule against it and if you lose at least they suffer.

My bet is they've had a bad game with a Sona which just left a bad taste in their mouth for future games. Often it takes only one bad event to change someone's mind for the worse.

I just wouldn’t hover her. You said you get flamed or your pick is banned when you hover, right? So don’t. See how that works out for you. That’s what I do if I want to play something people might not like.

I'll still lock Sona in because I have a decent winrate with her in ranked. I love Sona but she feels weak.
