Getting flamed/Hover banned for hovering Sona in ranked

Every couple of games I'll hover Sona as my support pick because shes my main and I enjoy her, but then some asshole decides to flame me and make me feel like shit for playing a "Shit champion" or they just flat out ban my pick and spout something along the lines of "If you play shit you lose". What do people in Low Elo have against this champion? I don't really feel like shes in an exceptionally bad place right now and even has some decent buffs coming next patch. Is this community really just that trash at the moment?

Of course they do, and people always think they can play your role better than you can.

I really feel like Sona is in a good place. Her laining is weak but she scales really well into late game as long as your team doesnt turbo feed

The problem is that "better" is subjective. Sometimes when people think they know better than you, they're right. Sometimes when they think they know better than you, they're wrong. This is why Riot has a clear procedure for draft pick - bans come first. If you think there's a danger of your pick being banned, don't hover it.

It's unfortunate that pretty much the only solution is "don't hover your champion so they can't ban it" when all that does is cut down on communication between your team. I agree that it's pretty much the only solution that works, but it's sad that most people can't respect what other people want to play enough to let them just play who they enjoy.

Like I said, the rules state the opposite, and have to be this way for clarity - we have to respect that everyone has a ban and can use it how they see fit.

They watch streamers and sheep what the high ELO say. Little did they know that knowledge and familiarity > META any day.

At least she got buffed this patch and can actually catch up with her teammates rather than having them speeding towards their target while being 1 pixel away from your purple aura.

The whole thing with not being able to keep up with people has never been an issue for me because I tend to rush item 3117 on her before I even finish my item 3504 . But I see what you mean. I feel like as long as you can survive her fairly weak laning phase (Not hard, just don't play like an idiot) then she becomes a monster of a support late game with all her utility. Like as long as your teammates stay near you, its hard to outdamage her healing with 2 items plus level 11

When this happens, and it’s rare, I just say congrats you just banned my 67% wr champion and hover some random non support champion. Then let them know I’ve never played this champion, ask what runes and items I should get for random champion. Someone usually leaves quickly knowing the game is most likely lost.

Another Tactic is to pick the adc champ if you get first choice and will be playing as the adc.

Really if people ask me not to play a champ or to play certain type I will if it isn’t promos. If your rude and think you get to decide what I will play odds are against a good outcome. Nothing loses a game faster than tilting team members. So why start that in champ selection?

As for the first half of your post, I personally wouldnt do that as it seems you could very quickly get reports for trolling, and with enough of those you could get banned. As for the second, if someone asks me not to play something or they ask for something specific, then I will. But if they ban my pick or theyre a dick about it its not like im gonna troll, I'll just play something cheesy like lux or Glacial Ahri and just play the game out.

You are correct, they are saying to admit to trolling...

That said, DO FEEL FREE to lock in Darius Talon Nasus Azir Nunu support.

Then dont say a word after that till post game lobby, then just say "good thing you banned sona" then leave.

Sure, that assclown wont learn their lesson right away, but if this happens to them enough, they wont feel like its worth it. I used to roll with the punches, and be mature and select a reasonable alternate.

I dont do that anymore because it tells the troll banner its ok to dictate what the support plays, and that there will be no repercussions for banning their intent pick.

This is what theyre counting on, its what makes them feel like they can ban supports picks whenever they feel like it. When they do it and get away with it, they have every reason to do it again.

Sona is the weakest support in the game. I literally go out of my way to check the support's match history to ban her.

My recommendation: find a new main. Nami, Bard, Yuumi, Senna, all of these play identical to Sona, but are actual viable characters. Maybe not Senna, since she has an over 20% banrate.

Wrong. Sona has the lowest pickrate amongst all supports. This is a statistical fact. The only other "support" that comes close is Annie, who is still 2 spots higher than Sona.

The next dedicated support is an entire 8 spots higher than Annie. Yuumi, whose pickrate is literally ~50% higher than Sona's. But hey, anything to continue denying facts & statistics, amirite?

My bet is they've had a bad game with a Sona which just left a bad taste in their mouth for future games. Often it takes only one bad event to change someone's mind for the worse.

Sona is one of those “dodge on sight” champions if it’s locked in on my team in ranked.

Her early game is so garbage for a champ that has to scale to late game to be useful. Doesn’t help that as a support, she hits level breakpoints far later than any of the other 8 players in the game.
Her utility isn’t good enough for mid game to set up tempo.
I refuse to have another sona main “support” me by standing miles behind me during laning phase.

Doesn’t excuse players banning it since there is zero reason to ban sona over the broken bs that’s in this game now, but dodging I can understand.

That applies to very few marksmen and even then Sona shouldn’t have trouble keeping up in laning phase, unless of course it’s one of those “support” players that do nothing but sit back and watch the adc 1v2 the lane.

I had the displeasure of seeing those types of players playing sona way too many times. Till riot makes the champ not garbage early game, I’m dodging anytime I see sona as my support.

Sona's early game isnt even that bad to be completely honest. Sure she's a little squishy, but she offers a fair amount of easy poke during laning, and if you play smart you'll almost never get caught out.

Also, if you're playing super passive and far back on Sona, youre just a bad player and playing the champion wrong.

I mean, in a way I already do that. If someone intentionally bans my pick then I just lock in Glacial Augment AHRI as support. And it tends to work really well most times.

After 2 failed reworks, the 2nd being even worse than the 1st & a plethora of nerfs on top, it's only natural that she feels weak now. Because she factually is very weak. She is the least-picked support in this game for reason.

The very idea of a "late-game" support that sacrifices laning strength is conceptually-flawed. It was never going to succeed.
