I have in the past just Disabled ALL chat. I get tilted enough from my own team. I don't need other enemy players taunting me either. I later activated ALL chat again so I can see what they are saying when I am crushing them. But yeah... teammates... I don't mute them immediately because some times they have constructive communication that can help win the match.. but as soon as I see 1 angry, disrespectful or annoying comment I tell them they are muted and don't waste time typing, just play the game.

As others have said, this is perfectly fine. There's no rule that says you have to communicate. Sure, communication CAN help you win games, but not communicating or viewing ally communication is the better options if you're afraid it might provoke you into communicating in a negative fashion. :)
