What is toxicity?

I have played league for awhile now, and I would love to get some feedback from the community. What exactly is toxicity? Is it different from trolling? Also, what triggers players into being toxic? Is it something about League as a whole that just really tilts people? Or is it the players themselves? I am used to trash talking in gaming, but the league community takes it to another level. Finally, how do you deal with toxic people in game? How do you get them to chill out and help the team? [sg-shisa]

I personally consider toxicity to be every action a player takes with the specific intent or purpose to annoy/hurt/piss off teammates or the actions that are taken to make the game unfair for you or your opponent. Below is(in my opinion) the full list of actions are toxic in league ranked from least bad to worst.

Specifically trash talking a teammate(not criticising )
Resorting to extreme toxicity to get your way.
keeping champ select hostage
Intentionally feeding
Trolling
Scripting

anyone calls anything in this game "toxic" if:

they don't like it
possibly because they don't understand it
and therefore, they can't tolerate it as a result

its like the term "semantics" when debating: it apparently refers to "any point that disagrees with my own"

well, you can fight them, join them, or try to understand why they are being the way they are. are they doing terribly in lane? did they get countered and try to build aggressively when they should have built defensively? are they just trying to do a fun build or champ in a role, or reacting in a hostile way to someone who is? there are times when you can't do anything to stop them from running it down mid, but if all you want is just to win, go play against some bots. try to act positively and calmly towards them, reminding them what they should be focusing on.

or you can go the route thats a bit more sinister and try to push them over the edge a bit more, such as stealing kills from them, stealing CS from them, pinging '?' when they die, reminding them that they can be reported for harassment, all while asking them to stay positive, just so you have all the more evidence to report them for if they break even further.

~~or, you could just tell him "KYS" and join him with the toxic behavior, running it down mid together. maybe your whole team might follow next.~~ (/s)

if its a "toxic" mechanic or champion, try to find out how to play against it. i've seen champions from zed to ahri to rengar to tryndamere to garen to darius to anyone called "toxic". 90% of the time its "I don't know how to play against these guys because i don't understand the weaknesses in their kits and i don't want to learn or change my approach".

"stealing" is a loose term... i main support and if i dont click for a second and take 1 minion on accident i get ping spammed to hell for "stealing" same goes for "inting" alot of people say inting when someone dies 2-3 times in early game but thats not always the case some people just get unluck...i wouldnt be said the same if you got 2-3 kills early on due to unfortunate happenings for the enemys.

so to answer your question obvious feeding is toxic and so is people being rude/flaming with no evident reasioning.

persoanly i deal with them with a simple mute and let them carry on, i play for fun thus i couldnt care less if i win or lose (i still try every game ofc)

but if im on an alternate account like a real "fun" account that i just mess around in normals then ill apporche it differently i will first attempt to calm them if that fails i treat them as a child repeating what they say with minor ajustments and removing them from my "team" not supporting them not playign along them unless my team who are friendly are with the toxic player and need help, this would ofc be pretty toxic but in the case of normal games most players are there to have fun not try to win so i dont see the huge problem with behaving in such a way to ajust anothers attitude

It's the nature of the MOBA genre. If you're familiar with the "Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory", it goes something like this:

Normal Person + Audience + Anonymity = Asshole

That's the case on any internet medium. In a MOBA, it's worse. You live or die by your team, your team can put you into a bad situation through no fault of your own, you can't escape the situation entirely without negative effects to yourself, and the one weapon you have to fight it (post-game reports) is unsatisfying and often appears ineffective.

Everyone knows what it means to be toxic, but for some reason people seem to believe that their toxic behavior should be either excused or justified regardless.
